Florian Brand
He likes to drink alcohol, shockingly, he's quite a fan of drinking a lot, but only with other people. So it's mostly a social thing with him, he believes it helps people connect without inhibitions, and truly learn what the other person is like underneath any facade or propriety... His tolerance is also pretty high but he will purposefully act more drunk than he really is just so he can observe people. After all, if there's one thing he loves more than anything else: it's people watching.
Somewhat tied to the last thing: Florian also loved taking care of people when they're sick/ill/hungover. People are cutest when they're most vulnerable! He loves to fawn over those who aren't feeling good and make them allllllll better. Soup? Massages? Drinks? Medicine? Whatever you need, he will provide. The more reliant a person is on him, the more they trust him, the more he likes being around them. Nothing malicious, Florian is just a bit odd about his affection for his friends and loved ones!
Joseph Desaulniers
Shockingly, he is pretty fond of sweets. Pastries, candies, desserts, he doesn't mind any- he's just particular that they're from France. Not that he will reject other kinds, but he won't exactly accept them, either. The only way to bypass his dislike, is to have you eat something first, in which he then insist he try it as well. Why? "To test the flavors that seem to enrapture you so..." The good news is that he has found good treats to eat, foreign and strange, the bad news is that he will want it again. So either procure more, or learn how to make them for him. He demands nothing less.
Joseph is pretty casual with affection. He feels secure in his relationship with you, so he doesn't feel the need to have big grand acts of love to know you feel the same. Despite that though, he gets jealous easy, and he wears it on his sleeve. Competition isn't an option against him, other suitors will be dealt with swiftly and promptly. Then he will return home and demand you shower him with attention, which isn't something he requests often... So give it to him, who knows when he will be so open again?
Mario Galaxy Movie trailer, eh? :3
Well then... y'all already know what time it is.
Here's me doing a deep-dive into my own Mushroom Kingdom lore, specifically that pertaining to Yoshi's because I don't talk about the little guy enough.
HOWEVER... since I got a lot to say, I'm splitting this up into two parts: one for just the yoshi species themselves... and one for our main green guy himself. ^^
So. Without further adieu... I shall now scream about the yoshis:
The Basics
Starting off pretty strong, these guys typically live near tropical or hot climates. As they are reptilian, they can't exactly handle a lot of cold weathers. Thus, the hot suns near beaches and islands… PERFECT living space.
Speech-wise, these guys can't talk very much, other than a few chirps, sniffs, and "yoshi's." When they're angry, they can let out a growl, or (in some cases) hiss. There is a dialect to them but… Yoshi-lish isn't a very common language to begin with.
Mating-wise, there's not too much to worry about. Both male and female yoshis can have babies if they so choose to. They can be any sexual orientation that they want, and they often mate for life. Gender-wise… they're yoshis. You think they care if one of their kind is trans or nonbinary?
Yoshis are fairly intelligent, though this ranges from species to species (think of this as kind of a "book smarts vs. street smarts" schtick). While one group may be able to form a social hierarchy, another might see any newcomer as a potential threat. So… be forewarned of that.
Yoshis CAN, in fact, swim. You'd kind of have to if you lived near water, lol. But, again, the ability to do this depends on the species (specifically their characteristics).
Green yoshis tend to be the rarest out of any of the others. As such, they're often held in high regard, either as a tribe leader, or just the one that gathers the most food.
The yoshis have specific mating and nesting seasons, extending from mid-spring to the end of summer. The heat during this time is said to help with the eggs' hatching, and for the yoshis to seek out their mate if they so choose.
There are currently 3 different species of yoshis, each ranging in size, behavior, and even diet. They go as follows:
Islander/Mushroom Kingdom Yoshis
These particular yoshis live on (duh) islands… an archipelago of them, in fact. Each one is comprised of a different tribe, all of which live cohesively with one another. While each protects their own mainland, they can (and will) work together should it come down to it.
Herbivores. These guys are hard-core herbivores, mainly eating just fruits and vegetables… mostly fruits though. They CAN eat other things, but they would rather not, unless a situation calls for it.
Adaptable. Being on an island, these guys are subjected to a myriad of adverse weather conditions, ranging from hurricanes, tsunamis, and even flooding. Over the years, this has become par for the course, and the yoshis have adapted fairly well. They don't build any kind of housing, unless it's during nesting season, and are often on the move… not that they mind. They actually love it.
These guys are VERY family-oriented. Yoshilings are raised by the entire tribe from birth until death. To them, the youngest members are the most important as they make the tribe stronger. Thus, they're often held in high regard.
Important note: yoshis tend to be very parental towards ANY baby, yoshi or not, though they will be a bit stand-offish.
Introverted. Being on an island, and fairly far away from any outsiders aside from enemies, the yoshis are pretty skittish around newcomers. They only really attack if they feel cornered (mainly by throwing eggs), but their first instinct is usually just to get as far away from you as humanly possible.
Friendly. If a yoshi does warm up to you, they can be quite friendly. While they're not on the same behavioral level as humans, they can be pretty sweet and form close bonds, almost akin to a dog.
Yoshis in the Mushroom Kingdom are EXCEPTIONALLY rare. While they can survive there, they're often found in the more tropical regions since that's where their main source of food can be found. That, and they often shy away from anyone that gets close to them. Nobody knows exactly why these guys aren't on an island, but it's theorized that they once lived on islands that have since capsized.
Yoshi-Raptors (aka: Super Mario Land Yoshis)
These guys are a bit more rare, primarily being found on Dinosaur Land among other dinos. While not as social as the Islander Yoshis, these guys do have their own culture. However, its more of a pack leading than an actual civilization… and it's based around hunting and gathering strategies.
Omnivorous. These guys will eat a mixture of fruits, vegetables, bugs, fish, and sometimes small rodents. They mostly tend to leave anything else alone, but they will attack if you get too close to their nests or babies… or if you provoke them (which… that's kinda on you).
These guys have longer bodies, necks, and legs, allowing them to scope out food from farther distances, and run to them faster. Additionally, they can swim longer distances if it means they can nab some more food if they wanted to. Lastly… it's great for when migrating season happens!
Yep, these guys are the only species of yoshi that migrate during the colder seasons (and by cold, it gets slightly less warmer than it usually is). Still, it's enough to make them move to the opposite end of the land where it's much warmer, and the pack will move along together as a group to keep an eye on each other, mostly for food.
The babies are particularly important to them, though not on a hierarchal level. Most of their upbringing is spent teaching them vital skills in order to survive, as well as how to work cohesively with one another. Usually, one parent will stay behind to care for the youngling and the other goes off to fetch food for them, but both of them make a game out of it for the babies (kind of a "learn while you play," y'know?)
As for their nesting habits, they have two, each for the different migration periods. They can change it up if it gets destroyed, or if something else happens, but for the most part, they keep what they can.
They're… not particularly friendly towards outsiders. While not overtly shy as the islanders, they won't make an effort to get close unless they think you're a threat or if they're just simply curious (you can usually tell by their tails: upright = caution; wagging = you're good). But for the most part, they're indifferent towards you.
Yoshisaurus
These ones can only be found in the Cascade Kingdom… and God help you if you were to run into them. These guys are solitary and pretty territorial of their personal space. They can (and will) fight each other over a portion of land/food. The only real exception is the green yoshi… though it's less of a leader dynamic and more "Give me your food, or else."
Carnivorous. Yeah, these guys eat meat. And lots of it. The scary bit about them is that they're hyper-predators. Which… if you don't know what that means… look up the hunting habits of polar bears. This is primarily due to the fact that food tends to be pretty scarce in the Cascade Kingdom, so it's either kill or be killed.
On that note, the mothers tend to be insanely protective over their babies. So… if you see a young yoshiling that resembles one of them, RUN. The same goes for if it's mating or nesting season.
These guys look scary af. Remember the T-Rex from Odyssey? That's these guys, but smaller. They have sharper teeth and claws, webbed feet, and long tails… all of which allow them to hunt anywhere they please, land or in water.
Nesting-wise, they tend to claim one area and stay there (hence why they're territorial). The Cascade Kingdom doesn't have too many adverse weather conditions, aside from a few storms here and there, so they can root somewhere if they wanted to.
They are NOT friendly. In fact, they can get quite aggressive if you or anything else get too close to them. I… don't think I need to explain further. Best bet is to avoid them altogether.
[ warning ]: may not be accurate, not proofread ㅠㅠ🙏🏼
tonight was MOVIE NIGHT !!
and you planned to stay up all night with your boyfie yoshinori.
since you were also planning to do games after this movie.
but, uh oh. you fell asleep in the middle of watching this boring movie : <
suprisingly, yoshi was intrigued and didn't notice you falling asleep.
that is until he went to go ask you some questions.
"hey don't you think the protagonist is kinda dumb for accepting the offer?"
"I don't know If I'm rooting for the protagonist or the antagonist"
"nevermind their both idiots."
"I- y/n? oh..you were asleep?"
yes yoshi, took you long enough *face palm*
anyways, after finding out you were asleep. he'll feel embarrassed for rambling to himself this whole time.
buT OH WHAT IS THIS ?? you were...sleeping..on his..shoulder ?!?!
*cue any cliché romantic song used in kdramas, animes, or movies*
would be contemplating whether if he should remove your head and place it on a pillow instead OR let you be and try his best not to move.
it was option 2 by the way, he wasn't risking ANYTHING. you looked like u were enjoying your slumber, and it'll hurt him if he accidentally wakes you up.
so he's that cliché boyfriend, huh? alright mr kanemoto.
overthinks that every move he does wakes you up, and would even stop breathing for you. but then he saw the gates of heaven at some point and just went "nOPE, I STILL WANT TO LIVE"
admires your face for once in awhile. and somehow makes him self flustered then would avoid looking at you for a couple of minutes ( ㅠㅇ ㅠ)
"damn they look gorgeous" he whispers to himself.
bonus if you somehow say his name while asleep and he hears it.
"yoshi.. ." you mutter and he quickly- but nervously looks at you. afraid he might've woken you up. but nope, you were still asleep.
he smiles "they must be dreaming.."
"..of me !?!??#!?" and there goes flustered yoshi again.
would want to scream but cant, so he just covers his mouth with a pillow in his other hand and screams on it.
"damn it... .. I really love them"
"you love me yoshi?"
oops he woke you up !! and you caught him simping for you. NOOoooo 😔
"uh UHMMM ...g'morning"
"yoshi its still 11 in the evening.."
"ah right yeah of course, hHAH! my bad"
"you know you don't have to get shy. I love you aswell ^^" you say before kissing him on the lips.
the first time you fell asleep on his shoulder, was definitely memorable.
THANK YOU SOMEONE ELSE WHO THINKS NORTON IS A 28 YEAR OLD VIRGIN!!!! HE GETS NO PLAY, NO BITCHES, NO MAIDENS!!!!!
He hasn't interacted with a woman in at least seven years, and the last time was when all the men of the mine he was working at roped him into going into the pub and the women all ignored him because he was rude and standoffish to all of them. Even the working girls wouldn't try to entertain him after he waved his hand at them (cause he found them annoying), so he just drank and walked home to sleep it all off.
Even in the manor I do not think he's good with women, they make him nervous and he always thinks they're just trying to befriend him so they can stab him in the back and rob him when he least expects it. That's what happens when a man is as distrusting as him...
And maybe he still has a gripe on his shoulder from seeing women leave their mining husbands just because they weren't bringing enough money back from the mines... Norton doesn't blame them, but he also cannot stand how disloyal they were to divorce the men trying their very best to provide with the only job they were skilled for.
Also, don't think being a man makes you easier to talk to either, for him, everyone is an enemy, and if you are rich, well off, or from a family with wealth? The disdain he'll show towards you is akin to talking to a brick wall at the best of times, it's like he hates you, because he does. Honestly the best way to get close to him is just... being poor, or at the very least, having grown up poor.
Hunter identity switches are basically transformed survivors, (so there's not two of them with a surv and hunter identity). I've been thinking about what that implies for a Reader who was in a relationship with the survivor, but doesn't know that the hunter version is thar survivor.
As in, to Reader, their partner just went missing one day and some time later a new hunter arrived in the manor, leaving them alone with no idea where their partner went. (Probably assuming they either somehow escaped the manor, or were killed and the revival that usually happens malfunctioned...)
Even more tragic is if Reader and their partner had a family before he was turned into a hunter... Leaving Reader with a baby too...
So then, it's a very angsty idea but...
Hullabaloo crying when Mike's baby holds his face and coos happily seeing her 'father'... Even though Mike was turned into Hullabaloo she still recognizes him even as his hunter identity and it's both a relief and a fear to him, because he knows you'll never trust him again now that he's a hunter...
Though he feels terrible, he has to sneak into your room to see his baby while you're asleep, unaware that he's so close, he's not gone, he's right there... He wants to hold you so badly, but all he can do is stroke your cheek longingly and leave before you start to stir because his precious daughter will cry when he does go...
Or Luchino watching his toddler son play from afar, knowing that if he dares approach, you'll definitely take the boy in your arms and quickly retreat, because while you don't want to be rude to hunters, they've also hurt you so badly in the games... Even he has, when his instincts take over... He understands, but it also hurts so badly to see his kid growing up without him, and you believing he's gone missing, when he's right there. You'd never believe him though...
Or Fool's Gold, who pretends to not care about his old identity, his old life, but seeing you surrounded by your friends in the foyer, holding a newborn baby in your lap... Wishing that 'Norton' was there, while he's watching from the darkness, it hurts him badly. He takes his anger out during the next match because all he can think of is trying to talk to you, trying to explain what happened, but if he saw even a flash of fear in your eyes, he knows he would never be able to recover. All he can do is avoid you, and hope you don't get put against him when you return to matches.
I like sad ideas like this... You know? More drama with the identity switches please and thank you.
Thinking of Norton with a son... He's long since left the mines but he still has his old mining hat, and his son finds it and asks him about it... And he doesn't know what to say, choked up thinking about how he was forced into the mines as a child but now his son gets to have a better life than that... Finally escaping the cycle, even if they're not rich; they're not in that darkness, and his son can reach for that light... Become someone better than Norton ever could be.
Yet, despite all that, his son wants to wear his mining hat and play pretend with it, not understanding why his father is misty eyed at the sight and pulling him into a tearful hug. He hopes his son never has to struggle, never has to starve or sweat until he passes out or ever become so thirsty he starts to see illusions of a better life. That's just the type of person Norton is.
His family with you is the best thing to ever happen to him since escaping that mine, and nothing could ever top it. Let him work out his feelings, those regrets with his own father, and he'll be the best parent he can be.
i have a bit of a funny one,can you do hcs for norton and FG with a ridiculously short reader?(as in,reader is so short that if norton is looking straight ahead and they walk in front of him,he'll only see a little bit of their hair sticking out at the bottom of his vision, and if their hair is down or wet or they're bald then he won't see anything at all unless he looks down a bit)
...this feels targeted... I'm 5'1... So I would be that short to Norton... Curse you.

FG + Norton x short S/O HCs
Norton
He's... shockingly indifferent. With his tall stature, he's towered over most people all his life, and that's despite the fact that when he was younger than the other miners would tower over him... So to encounter short people outside of the mines is typical now.
But that doesn't he doesn't secretly enjoy being taller than you. In fact, he quite likes it. Though he won't say that to you, or anyone for that matter, he'll cross his arms when you stand next to him and purposefully stand with his back straight so he can compare your heights internally. After that, he'll probably be easier to negotiate with, only because he's somehow made himself pliant to your presence... No really, he'll agree to anything you ask for without thinking.
Just don't expect him to be conscious of your height difference any other time, cause he often will forget about you the second you're out of sight, which is pretty easy for him. He doesn't even consider you may need helping reaching things, he's just that situationally unaware. (Norton claims it's because he doesn't want to treat you differently compared to other survivors and show favoritism... But it's more that he doesn't trust himself...)
Fool's Gold
Unlike Norton, he likes that you, and every other survivor, is smaller than him. But he's especially likes that you're SO much shorter! It does make you easier to lose in matches though cause you can hide behind things so quickly... Quit being so slippery for five minutes so he can pick you up like a box under his arm!
Manhandles you, a lot. Just standing by him isn't safe because he will want to pick you up and just hold you, princess style, over his shoulder, under his arm, by your foot, by your arm, he doesn't care. Sometimes he picks you up and spins your whole body like you're a fan, he really thinks your size is fun.
He's just so obvious in his enjoyment too... Watching you scramble over windows and dropped pallets makes him so excited that he just has to drop everything to chase you, even if his other target was dead on chair. Don't worry, he'll just down you and then leave after his original target, only returning to you after they're chaired, but you've already crawled away and hidden yourself from his view... After the match, he'll be pouty because he lost you.
Howdy Yosh, I humbly request you write about how exactly Fool's Gold (our beloved rock man himself) would court Reader in the manor game AU? (I think that's what's it called.) And if possible, how exactly Norton himself reacts to well, himself courting Reader, because I think that would be funny.
YIPPEE!!!! ILYfoolsgold gets to write more about Fool's Gold, finally!!!

FG courting you.
Well, he's not the most experienced in romance or anything of that sort, given his life before the manor and all... So it's all very new to him, which means he takes it very serious when he gains an interest in you. He knows some things that miners do to show women they like them, but he isn't so sure if that sorta stuff would work on a person like you...
So he tries a mix of both, his own intuition and the miners stories of women they'd been with, and there's varying degrees of success. You enjoy the flowers he gives you, but you don't like when he gives you too many, and you don't like they die too quickly, so he plants them outside your bedroom window instead. After that, he likes to watch you open up the window and sniff them, but you noticed him one time and hurriedly ducked back inside with a flush, so he isn't sure you liked that part of it...
You're confusing to him, he'll gift you gems and minerals and more and all you do is display them in your room instead of selling them for cash. He has to wonder if you don't know the value of the things he's giving you, but he will admit that he likes knowing you sit in your room and admire all the items he's collected for you... It makes him feel accomplished.
Enamoured with you, he gives you ties in any matches you get with him, and always makes sure to hold back his strikes so he doesn't injure you too badly... He's gotten scolded by the Manor for not hitting you at all, so unfortunately he does have to make it seem as real as possible, but he'll come to you at night and apologize profusely for hurting you... Even though your wounds are always tended to by the manor and near non-existant after the end of a match.
Still, that doesn't stop him, and you'll let him into your room and sit on the edge of the bed while he lays his head in your lap while sitting on the floor and clinging to your legs... All so you can stroke his hair and comfort him that you're alright and unhurt. He doesn't even realize that his courting has all been accepted by you, as he still has (deep down) some of the same insecurities Norton has, and innately believes you wouldn't feel the same about him. Even though you don't treat anyone the same way you do him, he's just silly like that...
And Norton himself? He's flabbergasted beyond belief that his other self is basically schmoozing up to another survivor, it's kinda irritating (because Norton is low-key jealous FG got to you first), and maybe infuriating too... But he knows not to cause trouble with Fool's Gold, so he just crosses his arms and ignores his other self anytime he sees him doing some nonsensical courting nonsense towards you.
