You'll do
I have never been terribly good at sports.
No one in their right mind would ever pick me first for their team. In school, I was always in that odd lot at the end. When the team captains were down to picking the least bad of the remainder.
And it was always an open question whether I would be left for last – or someone would look at me and say, “you’ll do.”
Not because of anything I brought to the game. But because (in their eyes) someone else was even worse.
Whether it’s picking teams in school or a different context, if you’ve ever been in a situation like that, then you know. It’s hard to say which hits us harder – being left for last or hearing “you’ll do.”
In truth, they’re just two sides of the same coin. Both of them let us know that someone has judged us to be not good enough.
No matter the context, that is a message that always cuts us to the quick.
Which is why today’s Gospel is so important.
It shows us that none of us have been left for last by God. That “you’ll do” is something that God has never said.
In fact, it’s kind of the opposite. As Jesus tells us, “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you.” Which means?
God looked at you, from before you were born, from before you could do anything to deserve it.
And God said, “she’s on my team.”
God is looking at you right now, with everything you’ve done wrong, every time you’ve blown it.
And God is still saying, “he’s my first pick.”
Because – in God’s eyes – you are, have always been, and always will be, exactly who He wants.
Today’s Readings
All the people saying “Poor Maria didn’t sign up for this” like this woman wasn’t just on a random train ride and then decided on a whim to strand herself in the middle of the wilderness with a bunch of strangers because they were fighting Grimm and it looked like fun. Like....this is strange, sure, but she didn’t just resign herself to this, she leapt feet first into it.
Drew out the latest chapter of The Golden Sun, @greygryffindor suggested I post it. I feel pretty proud of this ^^
And to end Valentine’s week, Cranky and Duncan. Rather funny for Cranky to say he has to “go to work” when really all that means is wheeling himself to the other side of the room. Neither of these two get enough sleep, so napping together is one of their favorite couple’s activities.
I hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s day and that your week was full of love, whether it be romantic or platonic ♡
so i know that a lot of minecraft kings/mad king ryan aus will make mogar ryan’s loyal warrior and whatnot, but what if that translates to dark god!ryan as well?
