early seasons bakugo is fighting desperately to earn worthiness he does not believe he possesses on his own. deku sees that worthiness, though, and tells bakugo as much, through his words and his actions, over and over and over.

this is why bakugo is so intensely triggered by deku's adoration. bakugo subconsciously believes himself to be fundamentally flawed and not yet worthy of the praise he outwardly says he feels entitled to - but deku keeps clinging to him and insisting that bakugo is worthy now, that bakugo as he is in that moment is worthy of love and adoration and praise. and since the idea that he's currently worthy is so absurd to bakugo, his brain has no choice but to assume deku is doing so do mock him. to make fun of his inadequacies and shine a spotlight on the areas where he's weakest.

if bakugo believed the things deku was saying to him were true of himself (that bakugo is amazing, that bakugo is strong, that bakugo is worthy), he wouldn't fiercely, frantically reject deku for saying so. he'd puff up and be proud and wear deku's obsession like a medal - as evidence that he is as incredible as he believes himself to be.

but he doesn't. he swipes at deku like a wounded, snarling animal and bares his teeth. trying desperately to keep deku at arm's length, because it feels like deku is tormenting him. feels like deku must be mocking him and looking down on him, because in bakugo's mind, there's no way the positive things deku believes about bakugo could be true.

ykw i'm going to say this. i have to say this bc every time Won looks at Sa Rang it's like he's looking at her for the first time in his entire life. like he's never known anything quite like her like he is seeing her has seen her will continue to see her (to paraphrase/slightly change a line from one of my favorite works that i've written) like if he stops she will disappear and that drives me up the wall. it turns me feral i am biting and chewing and clawing and screaming from the top of every roof going insane sitting in a corner head in hands etc etc
