what does youarenotdesi actually accomplish beyond telling somebody they're not part of an ethnic group or a religion (when the blog's owner isn't part of the group or practitioner of the religion either) with no evidence, supporting arguments, or actual knowledge of what WOULD constitute the culture, only their exceedingly misguided feels on the matter

all while ignoring people who ARE part of that culture and practice that religion who tell them they're full of shit

hi! i saw your cultural appropriation post and it's great that you're thinking about asking others before doing it -- not a lot of people do that. i'd like to say this: even if you were hindu, i really don't believe it is appropriate to wear ganesha's image on an article of clothing. for any religion/culture, really, if it has the image of a deity and sold for commercial profit. youarenotdesi has a lot of helpful resources if you have anymore questions!

Cultural Appropriation in the UK

I have been talking to some other (non-white) people on Tumblr who live in the UK. We all agree we don't want it to come here. We all think you're pathetic in America for being offended by such things. If white people offend you because they are white, you are racist. You also say things like 'white opinions don't matter' - telling anyone their opinion doesn't matter because of their skin colour is RACIST! (Views in the UK, obviously not in America, since racism to white people doesn't 'exist' over there!)

I think 'Cultural Appropriation' is just an American thing, it doesn't exist in Saudi Arabia. It doesn't exist in India, it exists only in the USA!

In the UK, we would be more offended to hear a white person say "I won't wear a bindi, only desi people can wear bindis" than if they wore one. We are never offended in the UK when a white person wears anything from any culture! Ethnic fashion is common for all people in the UK. We like to see white people wearing things from our culture over here, if you shame UK people you will be doing more harm to the ethnics in the UK!

There is a lot of white hate/violence against whites in the UK, this would just feed it. Only a couple of examples are:

So for you to assume you know how society works in every culture is wrong, not everywhere is like America.

So please stop posting people from the UK on your 'Wall of Shame' - we do not want you here! (If anyone tells you otherwise, they are 0.001% of the UK, who has probably been Americanised by the internet!).
