SHIELD was gone, and everything about his life, what small amount there was on paper--was out in the wind. At least Laura and the kids were safe, and knew how to protect themselves--Kate had already left to stay with them a week ago, which made him feel somewhat better. She would be caught up in this bullshit. He’d called Natasha a dozen times in the past seventy two hours, making sure she was alright. He’d actually gotten her on the last time, the shitty burner phone making it a bit hard to hear at first, before she’d worked her magic. Jaz was safe, thank god, a triple agent, instead of the turncoat he’d been painted as. (Not that Clint had believed it for a minute, but it was so hard to know what to trust at the moment) Fury was alive, and on the mend, as well as Hill. Steve, the bonehead, was going to be fine, but was currently asleep in a Washington DC hospital.
He’d just landed back in the New York office, secured once more in SHIELD hands, Jimmy Woo acting as the Agent in charge, until someone knew what was going on. Clint had been flying nearly nonstop for the past fifteen hours, getting as many teams out as he could, and before that, he’d been on at least three different transports, providing backup to entrenched SHIELD teams that needed reinforcements. They had lost so so many of their people--But they had brought so many more home, too.
Before he could rest, though, he had to check in with the rest of his team.
“Hey, Jarvis--Yeah. Um. Can you put me through to either Pepper or Tony? I--look, brains are dumb, and I’m really really tired and not quite sure how to word this without it sounding like I didn’t think they could take care of themselves. I just wanna make sure they’re alright.”
