Today was the Youku investment conference and, unlike iQiyi, they seem to be sticking to traditional drama making. At least for now.

Instead, Youku have opted for the “sequel strategy” to get through the crisis in C-entertainment. A second season has been announced for a number of dramas that were deemed successful: 

"The Legend of Zang Hai" (Xiao Zhan)

"Unveil: Jadewind" (Bai Lu, Wang Xingyue)

"Blood of Youth" (Li Hongyi, Liu Xueyi, Lin Boyang, Ao Ruipeng)

"Blood River" (Gong Jun)

"Regeneration" (Jing Boran, Zhou Yiran)

"Riverside Code at the Qingming Festival" (Zhang Songwen, Bai Baihe, Zhou Weiwei)

While sequels are always a double-edged sword (existing audience, but unrealistically high expectations), for the sake of the future of traditional dramas, we have to hope that this strategy proves to be successful.
