So I'm reading a Fullmetal Alchemist crossover fic (with Boku no Hero Academia, and wow can I just say how I appreciate the BNHA fandom's dedication to writing as many AUs and crossovers as possible), and it occurred to me that FMA alchemy sounds almost exactly like Young Wizards wizardry? They both require exact descriptions of the change you want to make and exact payment of the energy involved.
When you consider that pretty much all the basics of alchemy are handed down from a literal demon (who, I might note, bears an uncanny resemblance in motivation and personality to the Lone Power), it's not hard to imagine that what they call alchemy is really a corrupted kind of wizardry.
