Slider startled awake with a gasp as lightning crashed outside. His room was dark in the nighttime and he looked around trying to ground himself. Kicking off his covers and holding his stuffed cat lovingly dubbed "Kickflip" shuffled out of his room and into the living room, blinking at the lamp light he squinted to see his dad, Hacker sitting in an armchair and reading.

At the age of 6, and booted up for a little over a year, Slider was still stubbornly refusing to accept the fact that one of his father's didn't want much to do with him. Thus seeing that his pops had gone to bed already, Slider stood in front of Hacker waiting for him to notice him.

A second later Hacker did a double take at the child standing in front of him and frowned. "Shouldn't you be in bed?" He raised an eyebrow trying to look intimidating but the boy only hugged his toy and mumbled back at him.

"I woke up because the lightning scared me. Can I sit with you?" He pointed to the arm of the chair and Hacker hummed uncomfortably, pressing his lips together. Glancing at the bedroom door he guessed Coop was already asleep as he had been exhausted after working on a large ordered project for happily ever after.

Sighing, Hacker patted the arm of the chair and watched with a frown as the boy lit up and scrambled to sit next to him. Deciding to ignore him and continue reading, Hacker looked down at his book.

Suddenly a loud burst of thunder let out a boom while lightning lit up the windows and world outside. Slider let out a gasp and hid his face in his arms with a whimper. Hacker looked up from his book and internally groaned. This is where Coop would do something to make the boy feel better and he wasn't involved. Sighing he set his book down and awkwardly hovered his hand over the boy's head before gently rubbing his arm. "There is nothing to be afraid of, it's only coded Cyberweather to keep the plants alive. The statistics of it hitting you while you're inside is quite low." He tried to reason with Slider.

That was when another boom sounded and Slider pushed his way into a hug, burying his face into Hacker's chest and shaking slightly. Hacker's expression was a mix of disgust at being touched and regret for letting this happen in the first place but sighing in defeat pulled the blanket on his lap up to cover Slider's body and gently rubbed his back hesitantly. Reaching into a bag next to the chair with his free hand he grabbed a pair of headphones and slipped them on Slider's ears, silencing the world outside.

Within five minutes the tiny Borg's breathing calmed down and his posture slumped as he curled up, signalling Hacker that he'd fallen asleep. Looking down at the child Hacker groaned and half whispered, "You better grow out of this ya brat." He snorted, gently tousled Slider's hair and picked up his book to keep reading.

In the morning Hacker would awake to a grinning Coop snapping some photos of the father son pair who had fallen asleep together on the plush armchair.
