Whumptober #6- Proof of life
“This is a fucking mess… the hospital is gonna be chaotic tonight.” Kai mumbled, “Did the police already figure out who did this? A terrorist, or is it the mafia again?”
“They’re saying is mostly a terrorist attack, it was a bombing so it only makes sense. What is everyone is interested about is in that kid dress in red that came and threw himself into the collapsing building.” One of the other EMT members shared while closing the back door of the ambulance.
“A kid dress in red?” Kai asked, his interest peaking yet worry washed over his face. “Please tell me that kid is alright. Did anyone give him medical attention?”
“No one saw him after he dropped off the last few of the civilians. He was… fast—“ Kai’s partner answered almost in awe.
“Don’t tell me you think he’s some sort of super hero?” Kai scoffed in disbelief. “Look, just point where the kid ran off. He might be hurt, and he might need our help.”
“I think he ran off that way, but he might be long gone by now. Look, don’t waste your time, man. We have civilians to take to the hospital.”
“I know, I know. Just give me a couple of minutes, tops!” Kai set off on a light jog in the direction that was pointed to. His partner might be right, the kid could’ve been long gone and he could be wasting precious time but he had a gut feeling, and when he did it never failed him. The medic turn took out his phone and turn out the flashlight, even with all the freaking siren lights it was too damn dark to see anything. “Hello? Is anybody there?”
Kai walked carefully into an alleyway, alert for any type of movement and sound. Green eyes scanned the area as best as the light from his phone would let him. Maybe… maybe he was hoping for something that wasn’t there. “Kai, let’s move!” He heard his boss yell, which made him curse. Kai begins to turn until the white light flashed quickly over a lump of red. His eyes widen with surprise and fear, and before he knew he set off. He couldn’t believe his eyes, there he was, curled up behind the dumpster.
“Son of a bitch…” He whispered while he landed on his knees. “Hey, can you hear me?!” He half yelled, though when he saw no response his first instinct was to check the man’s pulse. Kai breathes out in relief, now realizing he was holding his breath this entire time. He turns the unconscious man around, and… he couldn’t believe how young he was. In fact, he was around the same age as him and…
“Hey! A little help here?! I found someone!” However, after calling the other medics, Kai had realized it might’ve not been the greatest idea. If he read any type of superhero comic book or watched any movies, they were always so touchy about their identity. “Oh, you’re not gonna like this…” Even in the darkness, he could tell a vibrant blue mask was still plastered on the hero’s face, though an idea is soon to come to mind. He takes his phone once more and taps his most recent contact, almost speed dialing and no more than three rings and a very familiar German accent picks up the other line.
“What is it? We are drowning in here!”
“Heeeyyyy, you are so gonna like what I’m bringing your way. Say, you have a room for a extra special patient?”
