Well, it's been a fun, heartbreaking, amazing ride but we are at the end of Aizawa's backstory this week. (Also, sorry for the length, lots to say)
Shouta is starting to show a knack for teaching others, even someone as stubborn as sensoji. Likewise, I think sensoji is eating his words a bit about shouta being useless
He's probably given it more thought than anyone else. I have a headcanon that Kayama and Hizashi tried to pick up the peices a bit and maybe suggest they still try to all start an agency, but shouta wasn't having it. He wouldn't be part of another team again. Alone is safer to him, if he gets killed he has only himself to blame. I think we get to see his stubborn/determined streak here.
There's no speaking here, but the body language is important. Shouta is climbing to the top alone. He's not chatting with Hizasi, he doesn't even acknowledge him being there. He has a single goal in that moment. Hizashi seems relaxed, but also worried. He's not his chatty self. He just watches Shouta, to me this look is very "how can I reach him without hurting him again?" I know I've had friend where the closer I get to their emotions, the more they shut down and you have to be delicate. I'm sure there were a lot of "what the hell do we do about sho?" Texts between Kayama and Hizashi.
HI KOICHI!! I have to admit I kinda missed crawler. Shouta is, and I cannot stress this enough, a good cat daddy.
He wanted to pet that cat so bad. It's like that "buff dudes don't order girly drinks" thing. You're a tough and unbothered guy eraser, we get it. Just pet the damn cat.
I knew when we finally saw him genuinely smile that it was going to break my heart....and it absolutely did. What a beautiful frame and a great buildup to that moment. (And honestly, I would also require an office cat)
He's reflecting on everything, I think that call with Kayama really kicked his butt into gear. I think we've all had those "wake up" moments that shape our lives and I think this Is shouta's.
I'm glad he's found some peace with it all and maybe he can start living in the present. Vigilantes takes place in tokyo, I can't remember where exactly UA is but i believe it's not in the same prefecture. This seems like the start of our favorite tired teacher.
And that's that. I'm going to be really sad not seeing Eraser just hanging out with everyone, but it's only natural if he's going to UA to teach. I have to say that this was an amazing arc and a really good way to transition shouta out of vigilantes. I hope we get to run into him a few more times when the cafe is done or something. I adore that Kayama send daily sushi pictures <3
I'm very excited to see what the next arc looks like, it's an amazing series that I hope maybe gets an anime one of these days. If you recently got into vigilantes due to this arc, welcome! It's a great ride and I'm sure there will be a lot more to talk about!
