First off let’s deal with the obvious. Young Chop makes nice beats (which as a dj is really all I care about...). Young Chop has a style (drill...) that many new artist have adopted (or copied) Young Chop is trying to become a bigger than life character (like a WWE wrestler...) by taking on all comers and calling out many of hiphop’s todays artist as flaw (to put it politely...) This has become Young Chop’s strategy to bring attention to himself by trolling some of hiphop’s artist (who are selling now. A strategy that may be a double edge sword. I took time to check out Young Chop’s new mix tape and without the bias of the hiphop community, I just wanted to hear what he had to say as an artist. What is it about his music that will be unique and timely (there are many producers who are doing tracks, the ones that are selling are the ones that matter.. Streams are not sales, I can’t reiterate that point...) Chop’s production credits look like a who’s who of hiphop, but has he really had a major selling hit? (I know Sosa viraled but did it really sell solid numbers?
