Gardening 101 update for 10/25/2015
Weekly update:
Cuttings
-We have started propagating some plants from cuttings. These include raspberries, lavender, rosemary, and purple sage. The purple sage is doing fabulous. We're keeping an eye on the others. Week after next a local gardener is giving us cuttings from their pruned fig tree to try.
Farmers Market Vendors
-Peak Woodcraft confirmed they are coming by this year. They are thinking of coming in early spring or summer. Thank you so much! They asked if winter time was all right. It's great! Thank you again. smile emoticon
-Miller Lavender is interested in coming in the spring. Thank you! heart emoticon I picked up lavender products today to show students.
-Spoke with Maurrie's Garden. Bulk purchases are doable. They would like a list by late October/Early November. They let me know they will have more seed potatoes and dahlia tubers later on in the year. Confirmed they still have culinary poppies. heart emoticon
-Burnt Ridge Nursery gave me a catalog for their fruit/nut trees as well as let me know about their easy care small trees. Thanks for taking the time to go into depth. Any item my work orders online can be picked up at the Farmers Market.
Projects:
-Making signage for the vegetable garden. This is a shared space and different grades plant different areas. We will be labeling these areas during the winter.
-We will be making hypertufa pots
-We will be making bird houses and bat boxes
-We will be trying out straw bale gardening
-We will be pruning the red ozure dogwood and the willows in the Native Species garden and using them to make short wattle barriers for the old raised beds.
-We will begin sheet mulching the food forest
