Moartea, chiar dacă este aşteptată, mereu te ia prin surprindere. Chiar dacă ştii că timpul cuiva este scurs, că firul care-l lega de acest pământ devine din ce în ce mai fragil... tot te trezeşti uimit şi neajutorat când afli că o flacără s-a stins pentru totdeauna. Copilăria mea a fost marcată de o persoană ce astăzi a plecat. Îmi amintesc cu mult drag de lucrurile pe care le-am învățat de la ea, poeziile ruseşti, poveştile despre oamenii din îndepărtatul Caucaz. De un singur lucru mă bucur: că toată durerea ei a dispărut şi în sfârşit, liniştea i-a învăluit trupul chinuit. Moartea fură oamenii, aceasta este esența vieții.
