Weekend Warrior: Is Your Ride This Cool?
Last weekend, on a picture-perfect Mother's Day, Micah and I headed out of the city to be with family in the 'burbs, where we got in quality time with one of my two favorite cousins, Dustin. It was also the perfect setting to road-test Micah's new Big Wheel! Yes, I said Big Wheel. The ORIGINAL Big Wheel - like those of us (of a certain age) had as a kid.
I got the idea for a Big Wheel a few weeks ago, when in the span of a weekend I realized Micah had outgrown last summer's bicycle but happily mastered a Big Wheel at our friends April and Barak's house. So, not ready to get a new bike, I decided he had to have a Big Wheel. And, bonus, it reminded me of my own youth......riding down the sidewalk, wind in my hair, feeling super-cool while rockin' some rubber Madonna bracelets and a scrunchie. Very 80's, but so cool. So, I did my research, and struck gold on YoYo.com, where I found The Original Big Wheel 16" Big Wheel Racer.
Now, Dustin is not only a terrific cousin, but also talented at putting things together (which I am not). After a few tough moments, the Big Wheel was done, and Micah did laps up and down the driveway all afternoon. It passed the city-sidewalk test too. Plus, imagine the sight - my little man rockin' his Big Wheel around NYC. He definitely got a bunch of smiles and winks.
If your kids are at that in-between age - not big enough to ride without training wheels, but too big for a trike - it is awesome - and honestly, Micah just feels like the coolest guy on the block when he's riding it.
And if you order from YoYo, it comes in two days - just in time for Memorial Day Weekend!
Happy riding, friends,
xx

PS Micah also experienced the awesomeness of some big-kid wheels - my uncle's convertible. His take? "Let's get one of those, Mama!". xx
