Hey I was just wondering because I'm not sure what to do, when you apply for jobs, do you mention any experience you may have from organizing/being involved with feminism things? Or is it like mentioning your political or religious beliefs on your CV which you wouldn't do?
It depends on what the job is I’m applying for and who the employer is. My view is that work involved in founding and running a feminist society is very relevant for employers that want to see evidence of responsibility, initiative and organisation. I tend to go with put it down for office jobs and not for customer service stuff. The key thing at the end of the day is to make it show the skills an employer wants to see. So if you were involved in feminist stuff but not in any position of responsibility, don’t put it down. But if you had a committee position, or planned an event or something similar, put it in. Don’t just put down that you were a member of a Feminist group, that doesn’t actually demonstrate any skills and would probably feel like just putting political beliefs down, which is a no no.
So, bottom line is can you make it relevant to the job or make it show skills? If not, don’t put it in.
