The definite highlight of the Ypsi trip from last year was stumbling upon this incredible mansion (thanks to @chrisbdom) located at 600 (formerly 616) North River Street. Constructed from 1902 to 1904, it was the home of Shelley Byron Hutchinson (1864 - 1961), the H in S&H Green Stamps, a trading stamp business co-founded with Thomas A. Sperry (1964 - 1913) in 1896. For generations, S&H Green Stamps was a household name in the United States, available in retailers of every kind and redeemable for a wide range of products via the S&H Catalog. This made Sperry & Hutchinson very wealthy men and allowed Mr. Hutchinson to build this "house on a hill". The 30-room Hutchinson House is a combination of Queen Anne, Tudor Revival and Craftsman styles. The story surrounding Mr. Hutchinson's personal life is the stuff tabloid dreams are made of and is readily available online. Unfortunately, it is too lengthy to go into detail about, even for me, which says a lot.
