THE GIRL I WANT IS SO HANDSOME! THE COMPLETE MANGA COLLECTION
An Ordinary Yuri Manga
The Girl I Want is So Handsome! **SPOILER IMAGE **
Story and Art by: Yuama
I finally got to read this Manga! I wanted to check it out based on the cover alone, and although I did not regret going into it blind, I was surprised by what I found.
I was surprised to find out author Yuama, is the same creator as "The Summer You Were There", a Manga I'm invested in and impressed with. Unfortunately, I can't say the same with this title.
There is nothing terrible about this manga. I think the characters are cute, and the romantic dynamic is entertaining, but the main contention is the story itself. For a publication, I would have just hoped the story to be more compelling than what was presented.
The story is about ditzy and geeky Hina falling for basketball beauty Shiki at first sight. Hina tries to confess her feelings but is misunderstood by Shiki, and somehow becomes the Basketball Manager. Hina uses this opportunity to get closer to her while struggling to get her feelings across.
Like I said before, nothing wrong with this story or characters, I do think the approach to making this a short and episodic manga difficult to justify purchasing.
Also, does this panel not give you Kase San vibes?
Looking at the author's current project, "The Summer You Where There," it's possible creating "The Girl I Want is So Handsome!" was an escape from the intensity of the former title. In that regard, I understand the need to want to switch things up. It's a blessing if an Artist gets to work on more than one Manga so it's understandable that not all of their works are large productions.
Anyways, I do think it's worth a read. The comedy is great, the art and characters are cute, and I had a good time.
