an old yuezhu (yuezhi?) ficlet requested by @/snakeboycheddar who has also written a lovely yue qingyuan/zhuzhi-lang threadfic that i would be remiss in not linking!

Zhuzhi-lang does not do well in low temperatures. His serpent blood makes him more sensitive to the cold, and without the sun to warm him there’s usually little he can do besides shiver in sluggish discontent. But this time… “How are you feeling?” Yue Qingyuan’s voice is low and soothing. He takes a seat at the edge of his bed, currently on loan to the freezing snake demon, and reaches over to tuck the blankets tighter around Zhuzhi-lang. “Better.” Not by much, but Zhuzhi-lang isn’t one to spit in the face of undeserved kindness. “This humble one thanks Immortal Master Yue for his concern.” Yue Qingyuan merely smiles in response; it seems to be his default expression. He lifts his hand to press against Zhuzhi-lang’s cheek, then forehead. He clicks his tongue. “Still cold. Are the warming talismans helping at all?” Zhuzhi-lang is too distracted to nod. Yue Qingyuan has wonderful hands—big and warm and gentle. Not soft. But Zhuzhi-lang prefers the feel of rough skin, uneven with calluses and scars. He subconsciously leans into the palm laid across his chilly forehead. Yue Qingyuan’s smile is back. He shifts closer. “Would the body heat of another be better?”
