NJPW G1 Climax 27 Nights 9 through 12 REVIEW
G1 Night 11 Finishes
Another great night of G1 tournament matches, while the first two tournament matches of the night were pretty standard matches the latter 3 were all pretty great. The three pairings all meshing really well with Nagata/Ishii being the best showing from Nagata so far in my opinion. Talents are starting to show their wear and tear, hopefully everyone can last through the tournament.
Bad Luck Fale vs Yoshi Hashi, this match is one between two of my least favorite men in the entire field. It felt like a very weak match and the ending was unexpected, apparently Fale’s downfall is the illustrious ‘roll-up’ pin.
Zack Sabre Jr vs Togi Makabe, this was a decent pairing. It did however lack the spark earlier ZSJ matches have had. It still has his signature style, but most people will likely go back to him vs Ibushi or Tanahashi from earlier in the tournament.
Yuji Nagata vs Tomohiro Ishii, was probably the best match for Nagata this tournament and is arguably match of the night, though it has stiff competition. Nagata and Ishii played a very strike heavy game in this match, though obviously there were some suplexes that really always landed perfectly.
Tetsuya Naito vs Hirooki Goto, these two clashed very well and have great chemistry together. The match had close calls all around and it seemed either man could win throughout. The two also pulled off some impressive counters vs one another.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kota Ibushi, Ibushi continues to impress in this tournament in the main event spot. He and Tanahashi have a war in this match that might be one of the best in the entire block. The IWGP IC champion vs the Freelancer Ibushi, really frenetic and quick match though some things did land or look as good as they should have. The lengthy match though means those moments are mostly forgotten by all the other action.
My personal rankings for Block A :
1. Kota Ibushi vs. Tetsuya Naito

As always, this is just personal preference. If you disagree, I’m always down to see anyone else’s personal rankings. It’s also 30 matches to rank so some naturally just gravitate one way or the other.
G1 Day 9 Finishes
Day 9 feels a bit underwhelming in the same fashion that day 7 felt. Day 7 didn’t have as good of a main event as Tomohiro Ishii vs Tetsuya Naito though, no offense to Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hirooki Goto. They just are beloved by me as much as Ishii/Naito who burned the house down in this night's main event.
First we started off with Yuji Nagata vs Togi Makabe, the two oldest guys in Block A. You might not know it given the matches they have been having. This one is another fun Nagata bout and Togi booked like the big man he is. He is a beast for Yuji Nagata to bounce off of. High kick a plenty with Nagata throwing everything and the kitchen sink at Togi to try to get his first two points.
Bad Luck Fale vs Kota Ibushi, much like the last match Fale here plays a big man vs someone who has to overcome the weight/size difference. Ibushi does a great job clashing with the man known to pull upsets over crowd favorites. The best spot of the match was easily a fantastic moonsault off part of the area. A move that seems more fit for Lucha Underground’s Temple than Korakuen Hall.
Hirooki Goto vs Zack Sabre Jr., ZSJ continues to be the wizkid when it comes to submissions. Especially in this G1 where I think the only other person to heavily rely on submission work has been Okada who won a match up vs Yano with his rarely seen submission Red Ink. Still, Hirooki Goto seemed to have an answer for everything ZSJ could throw. Probably one of my more enjoyed Goto matches as I felt it was a new challenge for Goto. Not an old familiar foe, which is the feeling I get with lots of Goto matches with more tenured NJPW talents.
Yoshi-Hashi vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, This was by no means an awful match. It was however a match that feels pretty skippable and uneventful. A problem with Hiroshi Tanahashi so far in this G1 is lots of his dance partners feel pretty unthreatening for the old ace of NJPW. That’s the main problem with sitting in this match, Hashi just isn’t enough of a credible threat to the well known superstar who defined NJPW through much of the 2000′s and even into the 2010′s.
Tomohiro Ishii vs Tetsuya Naito, these two have clashed in the past and just like those previous encounters this one is pretty fun from bell to bell. Most definitely match of the night, with 2nd place probably being a close tie between Ibushi/Fale or ZSJ/Goto. While both men really impressed, this match never really reached the heights of their earlier tournament matches vs Ibushi who has been MVP of Block A so far for me personally.
My personal rankings for Block A :

2. Tomohiro Ishii vs Kota Ibushi
