I continue to be creeped out by the way there has been NOTHING in the news about the Yuma Sun layoffs, which happened June 14. I realize that (as a privately held company) they aren't "obligated" to report layoffs to the media. But HOW do you lay off what amounts to nearly 25 percent of your workforce and have word about it NOT make it to ANY media outlet anywhere??? Even from a relatively small paper like Yuma? Those people are/were professional journalists ... WHAT did Horizon do to keep them from talking to the media??? And what are they going to do to us at the A-D when our turn comes? The disingenuous line about "business as usual" after being acquired by a subsidiary of Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers was fed to the Yuma crew just like it was to the Marysville crew at the A-D. Obviously, when you lay off a quarter of your workforce six weeks after issuing that statement, it WASN'T "business as usual." And yet, the only PEEP about any of this that I've been able to find on twitter was a brief, six-tweet convo.
