Your kind of trouble

The air was chill, the kind that made your breath visible in small white clouds as you exhaled. The city stretched out in old brick buildings leaning toward one another across the narrow canal, the quiet creak of bicycles passing by, water glinting beneath a low winter sun. You hadn’t planned to stop here, not at this exact spot, but somehow it felt like a moment that was waiting for you.

Yunho stood by the railing, a single tulip in hand. The flower was bright orange, defiant against the muted tones of the city. His other hand rested in his coat pocket, posture casual but eyes alive with that familiar spark that always caught you off guard. He smiled genuinely when he saw you, the kind of smile that made the world seem less heavy.

“You’re late,” he said, though his tone was playful.

You stopped beside him, glancing at the tulip. “You’ve been waiting? For me?” making a bit dramatic tune, trying not to think who this tulip was for.

“Maybe,” he said, looking back toward the canal. “Maybe I just like the view.”

“The view, huh?” you teased, folding your arms. “You mean the boats, the bridges, the freezing air-”

“-and you,” he interrupted smoothly.

You blinked, caught mid-sentence, and he grinned, clearly pleased with himself. “You can’t just say things like that so casually, in this cold weather,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady.

“Why not?” he asked, tilting his head. “It’s true. It helps warm everything up.”

You shook your head, fighting a smile. “You’re impossibly sneaky.”

He chuckled quietly, then held out the tulip to you. “I was going to wait for a better moment,” he admitted. “But you never show up when the moment’s right.”

You took the flower, fingers brushing for a second. “So, you make your own moments instead?”

“Exactly,” he said, his grin turning softer. “Besides, it’s Amsterdam. You can’t NOT give someone a tulip here. I’d get in trouble with the locals.”

You laughed; the sound carried away by the cold breeze. The warmth in his gaze didn’t fade, it deepened. There was something unspoken there, steady beneath all his teasing.

“You know,” you said quietly, turning the tulip between your fingers, “you didn’t have to bring me anything.”

“I know,” Yunho replied. “But I wanted to.” He paused, then added, “You’re always doing everything for everyone else. I figured I’d change that for once.”

The sincerity in his voice made your chest tighten. You looked away, focusing on the water to keep your composure. “You really know how to ruin a good defence mechanism, don’t you?”

“Only yours,” he said.

You exhaled a laugh that was more of a sigh. “You should stop before I start believing you.”

“Too late,” he murmured.

You turned back to him to argue, but he was already closer than before. The tulip’s stem brushed against your chin as he leaned in slightly, his breath visible in the cold air between you. “You look like you’re waiting for me to say something dramatic,” he teased.

“I’m waiting for you to stop making everything sound like a movie,” you whispered. “It’s bad for my heart.”

He smiled at that, his eyes warm even in the chill. “Then maybe we’ll make this the good part.”

And before you could say another word, he leaned in and kissed you. Slowly. The world narrowed to that single, gentle warmth, the scent of tulip petals.

When he finally pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours, his voice low and calm. “See?” he said. “Worth the wait.”

You laughed quietly; your fingers still tangled in the stem of the flower. “You will be the death to me... a bad, bad trouble.” Yunho grinned, stepping back with that effortlessly bright energy. “Good,” he said. “Then I’m your kind of trouble.”
