insane that you have to be bad at something before you’re good at it. when I was a kid either 1) I was surrounded by folk who weren’t doing it so I was automatically good or 2) I was great for my age.
Nowadays if I’m getting into something, I’m a beginner, and someone out there has been doing it for years. My social group and the rooms I enter have expanded to include people who have similar interests, and if I branch out of course there's someone who has done it for longer and is better than I am. I use the internet more and often the people have achieved success in this thing at an age younger than I am right now, whether it’s a hobby or a career path. Or it’ll be a skill that you need to enter a room of people doing it to even practice it and of course you’re probably the worst at it because you’re starting out and they’re not.
All this to say, it’s normal, I’m not worse than my childhood self just because I'm bad at more things now. That's how life works. You gotta be a beginner to gain experience. There is no other way. The faster you learn that, the faster you get over it. Also, it's great being mediocre at things! Really. You get to a point where it feels like a puzzle and not moving giant rocks. And if you do it more and more often, you'll get better at moving giant rocks. And in order to deal with others being better than you? 1. that's how life works 2. those people are COOL they're not your enemy stop shooting yourself, this mindset shift is so important 3. if you can suffer through being bad at something, because really who do you think you are? someone who is automatically good at everything? how is that even a fun life. but! if you can suffer through bad at something, eventually you will become good at it!
Seriously. Stop limiting yourself.
