Day 1(?) of the yuri readathon
Hi, I wanted to create a blog to comment on my yuri reading progress for a long time, and this readathon felt like a great start. Don't mind me being late to it..) This post will have the TBR list, through I might end up not fully sticking to it and reading whatever I find appealing in the moment :3
Love Allergy Syndrome by Neji
While I was searching for the works that I want to read during this week, I encountered some manga that I have read years ago. One of them was Love Allergy Syndrome by Neji, which is a cute little story about a human with fur allergy, Hiiragi, and an anthropomorphic animal, Momiji. It seems that the first time I missed the explanation of who the main character was as I was under impression that it was a made up animal. It turns out that is was a Japanese serow, who are a goat-antelope mammal that also have a semblance of a deer and a boar. They are seen as Japan's national symbol, and I really love their floofy necks, and their fawns look like lost puppies. The manga itself is consisted of four chapters and shows Momiji do her best to get closer to Hiiragi. This author's style is cute, both in how they draw humans and non-humans, if you haven't read their Beauty and the Beast Girl, you should.
A Timid Woman Longing for Her Delivery Girl by Sanada Haiji
This one is a really sweet and comforting read. The main character being a freelance worker, who finds the new delivery worker girl charming. The delivery girl herself moved from the countryside and the story itself has some welcoming undertones of helping the community and being nice to others, escaping the choking chains of the toxic work place.
Shuukura or Story About Buying My Classmate Once A Week by Haneda Usa
One of the medias that gets overlooked by me are the light novellas, partially, because I don't know of any sites to read them on, like Dynasty Scans, if there are any. Nevertheless, I want to change that and I have seen a lot of comments below the manga of this story that it misses some of the important moments.
Edit: I forgot to actually leave the site that I did find that had a translation of it, but, thankfully, @lauren-ce reminded me of it in the comments. You should check out Ave Lilium Translations, they have a few other light novellas on their site too.
Crescent Moon and Doughnuts by Shio Usui
I had this one in my sight mostly because I saw the Ace tag next to it on Dynasty Scans. It's always interesting how someone might portray this topic, my only two explicit examples that I encountered are characters from Bloom into You and She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat. I have a lot of hope that this manga will represent it well.
Hello, Melancholic! by Yayoi Ohsawa
This is another manga that I have already read, but I loved it so much, that I have to refresh my memory of it. A tall, socially awkward trombone player and a hyperactive, determined drum player bonding over their love for music. As a more closed off and lonely person in high school, it was lovely to see the whole band come closer together and Minato become more confident in herself.
The Princess of Sylph by Kamejiro
To be truthful, I just liked the art style, but I do love detailed fantasy magical worlds in yuri manga. Through, most of the ones I like are isekai, am waiting patiently for new chapters of the The Helpless Saint and Powerless Princess.
Her Tale of Shim Chong by Seri and Biwan
This might not seen like that, but I do actually love manhwa and manhua too, but this list happened to only include one non-manga series (besides light novel, ig). Stories with a historical setting are a bit of a hit or miss with me, as they have a different feel to them, often going more into political and societal problems, while I often prefer more light or phycological yuri.
After Hours by Yuhta Nishio
I have not looked up anything about this manga, but I've heard it be recommended a long time by Ike, whose YouTube channel I watched some years ago. The vibes of the cover art seem interesting, so I'll trust it and see how it goes.
Goodbye, My Rose Garden by Dr. Pepperco
Another historical yuri, as I try to expend my reading of this genre. The maid and her mistress is a great dynamic, I hope I'll like how the characters take on these roles and see the inner struggles of what it could all mean, what could they both mean to each other.
Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko! by Sal Jiang
This one was started by me some time ago, but never finished. My desire to finally reread it and go to the end was amplified by the knowledge that it also has a tv show. I have a preference for animation and drawn art, but after loving the tv show of the manga She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat by Sakaomi Yuzaki, I wanted to see more. Still, I first feel the need to have the manga as the first experience. The premise of Ayaka being head over hills for Hiroko and trying her best to show her that, while the other doesn't see that and assumes that she's a straight woman, who's just overtly friendly, is silly.
