Imagine you are a program, an artificial soldier, meant to restore the planet you are born on. You are surrounded by scientists who raise you, but none of them quite want to claim you as their child. You are their coworker, you have to grow up fast when you aren't human, you aren't afforded life the way another child might be.

You grow up and you grow up and now you're what... A teenager? A young adult? Your age doesn't matter. You've been an adult since you were a kid. You don't have any friends, just colleagues. The other kids at the facility are far too young to be your friends.

Your father asks you to take a trip into a highly dangerous facility, in it you find a girl. She looks like an angel, she speaks some unknown language and claims to be from a planet far away. She shows you the book she protects, says that the book is capable of a lot of bad things, but also many good things.

She shows you the magic that sleeps within her, and it truly feels like she was sent from heaven. You feel a deep unending love towards this girl who literally completes the purpose of your being. She smiles at you, you feel your synthetic heart skip a beat.

For the first time in your life you have a friend. Just like you she is artificial, a creation for some goal. You two are two sides of the same coin, she is the sunlight to your garden, you are her anchor to this world. You play together, you sleep together, you eat together, you spend every moment you can together because it feels right.

One day you find 3 kittens that are barely hanging on to life, and she heals them. Suddenly these young things are so full of life, and they feel like your children. The both of you raise them together, care for them, watch over them. They spend time in the garden with her, they spend time in the lab with you.

Your life is the most beautiful and wonderful it's ever been.

And then the funding to the project dwindles.

And then the funding to the project stops.

While you are out on a trip with the other children of the facility the worst thing imaginable happens. You come back and the people who loved you are dead on the floor, their blood sprayed on the walls, on the floor. You find the woman who is the closest you've had to a mother with her brains blow out in the hall. A massacre has happened. Over the speakers you hear a message from your father, your creator... He tells you that this is all the fault of your angel, your only friend. You don't want to believe it.

When you get to your father's office, your angel is covered in gore, and your father lies dead on the ground. Everything goes blank for you. You scream and you fight and you try to kill your angel for taking away everything so dear to you.

In the end you cannot defeat her. She does not kill you. Instead she strings you up in the branches born of her magic.

When you wake up, everyone you love is gone, and your purpose has been snuffed out.

What really gets me about this scene is that the camera doesn't zoom in on the foliage. It zooms in on Yuri. This scene really truly feels like Iris is actively falling in love at that very moment. I mean... Why wouldn't she? She just found someone who fulfills her purpose.

It's the fact that she goes from calling her an angel to calling her a demon.
