Atonement by deed or death - Khur Saltfrown + Yurrn Dustback
Brother Khur Saltfrown
A Firstborn Space Marine who crossed the Rubicon Primaris. Born on Rapture Desolata.
Before his Death Oath, he was a sergeant in the Fifth Company.
Even though Brother Khur violated the accepted order of the Rite of Consumption, his true sin lies in a crucial detail, so unforgivable that it was not declared at the tribunal. Khur himself is fully aware of what he has done, but tells no one.
Occasionally, he hears the voice of his absorbed brother, Sergeant Yurrn. He sincerely believes he owes his combat skills to him.
After Yurrn's death, Khur changed greatly—he became withdrawn and silent, spending his time in prayer. His back is riddled with the marks of self-flagellation—his way of punishing himself for his sin. He is easily irritated when he notices disrespect towards him or his brothers.
The cave where the company engaged the Orks was full of salt stalactites. The resourceful Khur took advantage of one of them, piercing the xenos who, a moment earlier, had knocked the chainsword out of the Space Marine's hand.
The nickname, based on this event, suited the perpetually dissatisfied expression of the young Astartes.
His military qualities were unremarkable, and now they have deteriorated even further. But sometimes Yurn's memories and skills begin to guide him, granting him euphoria and confidence.
He was promoted to sergeant immediately after Rubicon, when it was discovered that he had devoured Yurn's body alone and without sharing. The company captain responded to the distress call and released Khur into battle, believing him to be the deceased sergeant's vessel. After a successful campaign, Khur was entrusted to the care of the Chaplain until his court-martial.
Khur's childhood friend, they shared everything: the Aspirant Trials, organ implantation, and service in the Scout and Reserve Companies.
He participated in a mock fight against a fellow Chapter member who was stronger and more experienced. Yurrn won, but was covered in dust of the training pit. That's how he got his packname.
In the Chapter, Yurrn was distinguished by his unexpectedly sociable and gentle nature, which in reality was a razor-sharp blade hidden beneath silk. He had a habit of laughing during battle.
Yurrn was a quick-witted, resourceful strategist, and a skilled warrior, quickly achieving the rank of sergeant and would have risen to lieutenant if not for the next fact.
He died during Rubicon Primaris, his Belisarian Furnace failing to ignite. Most of his body and organs were consumed by Khur, who now bears his legacy alone. Yurrn's skull was used to create the helmet Khur now wears. The remaining bones rest in the Chapter's ossuary.
