Seemed appropriate that i direct questions about your lads to this here blog, so here we are (had to figure out how long screenshots work, else it would've been a touch difficult to write this [have our initial exchange about em open on another device to reference])
So, am currently noticing that, half a remaining battle company after the rest got got by em orki bois, which, for starters, might you if possible pherhaps elaborate some on the Astral Predators as a whole? (Currently am wondering if those might've not been WS successors, dimly recall the pre Kahn legion haven a somewhat similar name)
Would presume that the remainder of em got absorbed into the fledgling Void Hyenas, which do the Hyenas know what lineage they hail from, they do seem to have access to the primairis technology, meaning this would be set sometime after 000.M42, for that matter, are they an ultima founding chapter.
What had the Predators been doing prior to being assigned to Rapture, or had they been akin to the Minetaurs, in that they heed only the bidding of the high Lords? Else i do imagine that whichever place those were stationed at prior to Rapture, might be pretty fucked without them there to defend it.
Though to circle back on the Predators, that portion that might've gotten absorbed into the Hyenas, how did those got on with the Hyenas themselves, is there any of their culture and customs, surviving on within the Hyenas, say weapons and such that are chapter now regarded as chapter relics.
Also em orki bois, are those a reoccurring persistent issue the Hyenas have to deal with, or are other xenos posing a threat around too (exact phrasing of yours was 'seeing more xenos sightings' so I'd presume it's not just the orks), for that matter, is it just that the Hyenas make for a great good scraping, or is it smth about potentially either Rapture itself or some other nearby planet within the sector that attracts them so.
Also, how successful are they about defending the sector itself, which, what sort of places and pherhaps places of note does that system contain, presume at least a few more inhabited planets.
Currently notice that bit about the Predators being sent to put an end to the gurilla wars of the native population, how long did that took? (Think i recall smth about how a single squad is typically enough to deal with a whole planet). On that note, what if anything of the infrastructure via farming and mining surrived after the orks were through? Could and potentially are at least some of that made use of by either the Hyenas or the native population of Rapture in some fashion, or are those sites treated with some kind of regard by the population.
They are non-space fearing, but what sorts of technology and techniques do they got access to, say, catachan adjacent or some such?
Hm, say, if the Hyenas have a decent reputation with the population of Rapture (say, what do the people themselves call the planet, and for that matter themselves [nvm, re-read that section, those are the Rapturians,
Presume they took on that name sometime during the span of time before the Predators showed up], also, do notice smth about cities, how large are those, that would also rather imply there's enough infrastructure to support those too, currently imagining a combination of some overgrown ruin from say, an post apocalyptic setting, mixed with biopunk), do individual Hyenas keep some kind of contact with their basline families (think UM pherhaps, but slightly less removed)
Hm, now, logistics. From the sound of things, the Hyenas don't seem like they rule over Rapture themselves, so how and in what way, do they have an agreement with the populace to keep them supplied with everything they'd usually need (former mining planet, i presume that there's at least a decent amount of minerals and such left, would assume that the ecosystem too would have recovered some by now.
Though, do the Hyenas and or the planets populace have some manner of procedures in place to help deal with that, for that matter, what sort of consequences did the ecosystem having been reduced to that state have on the people themselves, was there a time that the sun got blotted out, and much of the plant life died as a result? [Think nuclear winter, or volcanic eruption])
Recruits getting new names (sounds like a curtesy name sort of situation, which, how is it decided what name they get, or is the name related to some skill they excell at or feat they accomplished, is there say, a taboo around calling another individual by their, want to call it baseline name, or is that treated more like one might a childhood nickname) upon surviving the scout company (presume that would be them recciving their black carapace and elevated to battle brother, which, do the Hyenas, akin to the SW got different names for the individual positions and roles within the chapter), is a pretty nifty idea
(have this pet hc about a tradition of smth akin to a name day, where each year, those whom got elevated to say, scout of a particular time, happen to share a name day, and in function it is similar to a 100 day celebration, in that they are now being welcomed into the community, and recognised as ppl in their own rights)
Those geomagnetic storms, if they disrupt systems, then how does that affect space travel, ships communicating is pretty important. (also, just occurs to me, admech and machines, I'd imagine they'd not do too hot in that system, which, for that matter, how much or little tech adepts do they have, which, don't imagine that the chapter would send their techmarines to mars, maby a nearby forge world, but that's a big if)
Will have to end this here for now, due to time constraints (will continue this some other time, haven't gotten around to your lads themselves just yet)
Do bid you a lovely day (apologies should you have answered any of those individual questions/musings before)
Greetings.
The half-company of Astral Predators did not change their status and did not become Void Hyenas. The Void Hyenas were created in the gene-labs of Mars, consisting of a pair of battle companies that were then stationed on Rapture Desolata. They were provided with information about the planet and the Astral Predators' role in its fate, but the origin of the gene-seed was hidden from them. This is why the Void Hyenas consider themselves to be the successors of the Astral Predators and seek to cement their identity by collecting relics that could belong to Astral Predators.
The Astral Predators were subservient to the Lords of Terra and had no homeworld of their own, being a fleet-based Chapter. As of now there is no way of knowing if they still exist.
The Void Hyenas' traditions were formed due to the harsh climate of their home planet and the need to preserve the experience of their battle-brothers, given the Chapter's small numbers. The mortal inhabitants of Rapture Desolata do not practice cannibalism, preferring to cremate the bodies of the deceased—earthly burial is impossible due to the sandy soil and the large number of predators.
Torgox's Buccaneers responsible for the Farout massacre are present in this sector. Therefore Void Hyenas were created to provide Imperium with a better hold on this part of segmentum.
As of now Void Hyenas seem to be a challenging opponent for Torgox's Buccaneers, although they are yet to eliminate the fleet for good.
The current Rapturians are separated by several generations from the peoples and ethnic groups that inhabited the planet before the Imperium's conquest. Their early ethnonyms have been lost, along with their own name for the planet.
The current Rapturian cities and dwellings are partially underground complexes and feature architecture carved into the rock face. The ruins of the old cities are too dangerous to inhabit, but some industrial facilities are located there.
The Void Hyenas' fortress-monastery is carved into the cliff face above the largest Rapturian settlement. Hyena Scouts patrol the planet's terrain, seeking out heretics who want to know the history of the decimated indigenous populations. The Hyenas' ties to their mortal relatives are lost, and the chapter serves as their family.
The Chapter Master and the Sector Governor work closely together. The Governor of Rapture Desolata reports to the Chapter Master. Other worlds in the sector are busy providing the Hyenas with technology and everything necessary to enable the Chapter to defend the sector.
A Hyena recruit can acquire a pack name at any point during their ascension to Astartes—most often, it stems from a humorous or interesting incident (see Death Oath squad names). A given name is the recruit's prerogative; they can choose to either retain or discard it because it doesn't mean much. In interpersonal relationships, a pack name is a more intimate way of addressing a battle brother than his given name.
As for geomagnetic storms - they are mostly short-lived (about 30-90 minutes) and at this point they are fairly predictable and can be weathered with relative inconveniences. Psykers do not seem to be disturbed by them. Admechs, machine spirits, tech-marines and augmented battle brothers are not enjoying them though.
Techmarines are traditionally trained on Stygia XII located in the same segmentum.
I've posted four more posts in this blog prior to answering this ask, they might contain some more information.
Thank you for these interesting questions and apologies if answers are insufficient.
