Random yusuharu stuff I think about. It ended up kinda long so it’s under the cut
yusuke feeling insecure in ways he isn’t expecting. He knows he’s different and doesn’t really care what people think about it. But when it comes to Haru he doesn’t understand why she would choose him. She could have anyone she wanted (and who wouldn’t want her?) but she likes him. What could he possibly give her?
haru harboring a lot of guilt for her father’s actions. He hurt countless people for not only himself and the company, but also her. She sits on this wealth because people suffered. When she sees Yusuke she sees the people her father exploited. She wants to help him financially but it puts them both in an awkward place. He doesn’t want to take advantage of her and she feels it pressures him to stay with her.
yusuke never really received physical affection before. He recoils when Haru first hugs him suddenly and she apologizes, next time asking if it’s okay. He finds himself actively craving it, feeling as if it’s an addiction. He tries to touch her in innocuous ways instead of just asking for a hug (fixing her hair, grabbing a lint off her sweater, sitting close enough next to her their sides touch).
haru likes just listening to him talk about art and aesthetics but is surprised when he wants her thoughts. She’s awkward at first because she doesn’t much about art, but she tries her best. Yusuke never makes her feel stupid or that her thoughts are dumb, in fact he likes hearing her insight. It makes her want to learn more and she looks for galleries they can attend together.
yusuke is put in a weird spot with his feelings. He likes haru but at the same time it feels…motherly. She does things he pictured what a mom would do; she is always checking on him, making sure he’s feed, there to comfort him. Since he didn’t grow up in a traditional family setting he isn’t sure how couples work. But when he’s finally in a comfortable enough place in his life to actually think about the future, he starts to imagine what it would be like. And he wants her to be there.
They never feel like they are weird or different around each other. Haru never questions his thought process and he loves her insight. They bounce off each other so well their friends find it amusing. Makoto says something like, “he’s marching to the beat of his own drum and she’s skipping alongside.”
Haru got used to being scrutinized for her appearance, taught to be pretty but never flashy. She feels free enough to have more fun with her style: more frills, more lace, more textures. Her makeup is cuter. But the insecurity lingers and she worries Yusuke would hate it. At first he doesn’t say anything about it so she asks him what he thinks. Assuaging her worries, he says she looks beautiful, but what other people think shouldn’t stop her form expressing herself.
Similarly, Yusuke has opportunity to be more interesting with his clothes. He likes to keep up with Japanese fashion designers, despite definitely not being able afford any of those pieces. Haru works with him to thrift cool pieces together and try to recreate designs he really likes together, something more fun for both of them instead of her just buying things he wants.
Yusuke is blessed to be with a girl in the food industry. She cooks from scratch frequently and he assists her. He learns enough that he can make her favorite meals for her if she’s been busy with work or school.
Haru grows vegetables and flowers in a garden. The food is mostly her experimenting fertilizers and testing new seeds but the flowers are unrelated to work. She just loves them. Yusuke paints them frequently. In fact his work has a lot of flowers now because they make him think of her.
Haru is the only other Phantom Thief whose guardian was a target. She wasn’t there when they took down Madarame, so eventually Yusuke gives her the details of how it went down. She gets emotional hearing about it, sad that after all he went through he couldn’t bring himself to betray his father figure. After learning that Madarame’s cognition of Yusuke is a painting, a thing of his creation and extension of himself, she can’t help but embrace him. Much like her, he was seen as an object to be used.
Since they both no longer have families they each have to learn to rely on their friends. Haru recognizes how much Yusuke is disadvantaged compared to her, which is why she tries so hard to uplift him. When he asks her what he could possibly give her back when she has everything she needs, she says he provides her with everything she could want.
