“Because I can’t stand the thought of anything happening to you! Or to any of the others!” Taichi growled out in protest, his hands clenching. He understood that Sora worried but what would her putting herself on the line do? The thought was far too much to bear, far too painful.
“If anything happened to you I would never forgive myself, Sora! Don’t you know how much you mean to me?!” The words came out so fast that Taichi didn’t fully register what he had just admitted. He froze for a moment before turning away and trying to fight of the furious blush that was now on his cheeks.
“I’m not having anything happen to you because of me, okay? It would hurt too much…”
Sora was too frustrated to notice anything off about him. To her, he sounded like typical Taichi, and words that might have sounded loaded to him bounced right off her skin.
“This isn’t about you.” She shot back, her eyes narrowed as she tried to get through to him. “You can’t go about this alone, it’s too dangerous! I’m going with you, and there’s nothing you can say that’ll make me change my mind. We don’t even have Agumon and Piyomon with us.”
Sora didn’t know what was going on with him lately, but he’d become so hesitant about letting his friends get involved when there was danger. When they were kids, Taichi used to like doing things on his own, but it was always for the glory or the recognition. He’d take unnecessary risks in football to score goals that he shouldn’t have even attempted, for example. Now though, his intentions seemed different. He was too cautious. He was freezing.
“Now tell me exactly what’s going on!”
