I got some mad poetry vibes today at work so here’s some of what I thought of:

'Threat' implies there's a chance you might die.

‘Threat’ implies glowing pillars, humming guns

the promise of a hero's welcome if you come home.

If.

There is no 'if' and no 'when' this time.

There is no ‘chance’, it’s a guarantee.

There is only ‘when’;

the statement and the question.

I gotta think on this more but man

Yvette’s heart would have absolutely bled for all the children who had been orphaned as a result of the Reaper War. That girl down in the loading bay gave her pause more than once

When the Citadel is working somewhat properly again post-ME3, I guarantee you that Yvette put together some sort of organization to help those children

Not just them, either. She’d reach out to the duct rats who were still alive as well, and any other child who was on the Citadel without their parents

She was just like them once, and she didn’t turn out too hot for it. Now that she’s in a better place with fewer obligations on her beyond physical therapy, she’d dedicate as much time as she could to helping these kids not have shitty lives

I’m just now realizing that Yvette probably had the beginnings of a crush on Ashley, which would be very impressive considering her emotional constipation at that time

14. your OC talking about your favourite quest 

“It was… incredibly difficult, to say the least, to talk to Talitha, back in ‘83. It seems like that happened forever ago… I knew her when she was little. We weren’t close or anything, but I knew her name. It felt weird, hearing that name again after so many years, and it was even weirder seeing who she’d become. She was so scared, and she looked so small… She’s ten years younger than me – she was only six, way back then, and she’d spent thirteen years as a slave… 

“Of course I helped sedate her. The nice way out wasn’t my usual way back then, but something in me cracked, I guess. It was a difficult conversation for both of us… I’ll be honest, the worst part was when she asked me why I wasn’t a slave. I wish I’d known what to tell her. I just bullshitted an inspirational answer. But in the end, I talked her down, got her to take the pill so she wouldn’t hurt herself. 

“I got a message from her a few years later, actually, when I was prepping to stop the Collectors. She seemed to be doing better. I hope she’s still out there. It was kind of nice, not being the only ‘Mindoir kid’ for a conversation.”
