Black Panther Initial Thoughts
This film has captured, my attention and imagination like no other film has in my life to date and may be hard to top. So much so that I have seen this 3 times so far and with a couple more viewings yet to come. This is a film that in my TV and Cinematic memory stretching over 4 decades stirred up feelings in me profoundly.
The 4 viewing experiences that brought feelings out like this for me has been Roots, The Colour Purple , Boyz in the Hood and Malcolm X prior. This was was an amalgamation of all three, set into the Marvel Universe Canon brilliantly directed by Ryan Coogler and a strong ensemble cast to bring Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s 1966 Marvel comic book The Black Panther character creation to life. The memorable lines and quips from this film can be found here
The film is one that I believe could be a really good discussion amongst young people and not just *BAME* young people (though a critical place to start), but all young people, in fact all adults about so many aspects, touching on Identity, Gender, Loss, Parenting, Mentoring, Intergenerational Dialogue, Mental Health & Well Being, Choices to name but a few but also Justice, Politics and Racism and its effects (colonialism) and the geopolitical context we find ourselves in today and historical effects. There are big questions that are asked individually, within communities and globally and they are valid and relevant.
The things that I have seen in this film may not necessarily be seen through a lens of youth work colleagues who are of a different ethnicity to myself or even those of the same ethnicity, but there are nuances that are important in the discourse that I have with colleagues that asks how youth ministry in an Anglo-Saxon framework will need to reassess its own assumptions and so-called ‘cultural norms’ that is seen as a given.
In exploring terms like *Blackness* by its very definition asks questions of *Whiteness* or even basically about being ‘white’ and what is associated with both those terms, which I believe is a valid question to explore especially in these times.
The questions that I am asking for starters
What did you see in this film?
Which character did you most identify with and why?
The references to Spirituality in this film are profoundly deep on many levels and I am not going to spell those out here, but seek and you shall find. This film is unashamedly *Theist* where even with Vibranium, God is the source of life, strength, and power.
Yes, Black Panther was absolutely a cultural event, but not only that, a world event where black people were not only seeing themselves in the story, leading in the story, but telling their own stories, referencing the past, present and a future in which they will take a part in life and faith on this planet in significant ways from that lens rather than being an add-on They were also inviting the world to share an encounter together.
The question is, can we all go beyond our imaginations, preferences, and prejudices to see these in our own contexts and speak with and to one another these things that we have seen and witnessed and be the beloved human tribe of God?
More to come from me on this.... Let’s talk.
Wakanda Forever!
Missing Youthwork
Each Tuesday evening, I drive #thenoisyone and #theshriekyone over to the other side of our city where they meet with some of their old fiends for cubs and beavers. It’s not worth the drive back home, so I often sit and wait in the nearby branch of a fast-food restaurant for a coffee and a bit of time with my book....
Tonight was really interesting, as I sat in the sadly familiar surroundings enjoying a few minutes peace, the table next to me began to fill up with a large group of young people, one of them had bought some food, most of the others were equipped merely with straws and tissues, ready for their evening of making their own fun.....
In the brief time the group sat, it was all too easy to hear and see what they were up to. After a long time as a youth worker in the city, their conversations about casual sex, broken families and relationships, angry phone calls to absent parents, and the ubiquitous banter that verges on bullying the smallest/’weakest’ member of the peer group were even more familiar than my formica surroundings, and their eventual removal from the restaurant when the spitballs began to fly was little surprise.
Before we left Bradford to train for ordination, the council had begun series of budget cuts, including a significant slashing of the investment in youth provision. In this same time frame, voluntary sector organisations have also found funding more and more difficult to secure, and as such specific targeted provision for young people has inevitably decreased. I’m not making any judgements here, I’d hate to be the person holding the purse strings, I don’t envy them their job, and I am always grateful to those who try to walk the difficult tightrope of local and national governance responsibly. But my hour under the golden arches was a really interesting reminder that something’s missing.
In my time as a full time youth worker, I always wished for a community in which my profession was no longer needed. I love that old proverb that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and am a firm believer that it’s one of the greatest joys to be a significant non-parental adult in the life of a young person. Youthwork was my privilege, but I also often felt it a shame that we as a society had so often seemed effectively to outsource it to ‘the professionals’.
Tonight was two things - as I watched one of the staff interact with the young people, it was a beautiful reminder of the potential positive impact of a friendly voice and a bit of genuine interest in an individual’s life. As I saw the lady (slight, potentially in her 60s) simply chat to the group, not pressuring or pushing them in any way, valuing them as human beings and simply asking them to do the same for others and resist the temptation to swear too loudly or fire their home made pea-shooters (a temptation which sadly a couple of the group found too enticing, resulting in the group’s ultimate ejection), I saw the group quickly warm to her, even inviting her to sit with them, and responding to her conversation starters. It was great, and I made sure to tell her what an amazing manner she’d had with the group, she smiled and said Thankyou, but you could also tell it was just her way - which makes it even more amazing.
It was also a real picture that something’s missing. This group, I suspect were not ‘bad kids’ (if such a thing ever existed?), when they were asked to leave, they simply got up and left, no complaining or protesting, no jeering or comeback. But the fact is that if their access to a supportive and non-judgemental figure to help them navigate life’s minefield of growing-up, relationships, family breakdowns, and recreational sex, drugs and rock and roll is restricted to 2 minutes as someone hands them a cheese-burger, then we probably have a problem.
I recognised as I sat there though, intentionally not getting too involved because I was so impressed with the aforementioned employee’s actions, that yes these young people may be missing out on the impact of quality, frequent youthwork, but also that I was missing it too. I’m grateful to be where I am now, and am enjoying the challenge of getting to grips with everything #newbievicaring entails, but I’m also reminded of how much I always enjoy the energy and potential chaos of spending a lot of time with young people...
The first year of #newbievicaring is supposed to be a year of watching, listening and learning though, and tonight’s been an exciting reminder of the importance of a positive culture of inter-generational interaction which Church can and should strive to foster, as well as the opportunity to serve community by seeking to specifically support young people and those who’s vocation is to the privilege of spending time with them. I’m glad tonight happened. I’m glad of the questions it’s left me with. I’ll let you know if I come up with any answers.....
How tough is your youth group?
Resilience is an interesting word, and an even more interesting concept.
It pertains to one’s ability to roll with the punches, negotiate life’s obstacles and rise above negative circumstances. It’s existence, or absence is realised in those moments when it feels like the whole world is conspiring against.
Resilience is strength, but not in the physical sense. Physical strength is based and measured by, how hard you can hit, punch, push, pull, kick and knock things down. Mental strength, resilience, is based on how hard you can be hit, punched, pulled, pushed, kicked and still keep going.
Our culture today, tends to lean more towards a celebration of the physical strength. The chiselled physique of a physically strong and powerful man can be seen from the front of mens cologne bottles to the commercial breaks between our favourite TV shows. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be physical strong, in fact, it’s great to be strong, i’m a strong man myself and enjoy the benefits it affords me. For example, I am able to open jam jars with a mere flick of the wrist and carry the rubbish out in the morning in one go. But what about mental strength? The ability to quickly and consistently rise above the slightest of slights and the greatest of disappoints is a whole other strength all together.
The great orator Les Brown says this, "When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up."
That’s resilience.
I spoke with a Beth Stout from the organisation The Golddiggers Trust this week, on my new podcast show, The Youth Workshop. Beth works with young people who have faced some of the most traumatic situations you can imagine. In this conversation Beth shared that often times, the situation is so bad that she often wonders if there is any hope at all, any chance of reparation or is the child damaged beyond repair.
It’s very rare that a child will walk into your youth group with physical scars, black eyes, broken limbs. But many of them carry around a world of hurt that is bubbling just beneath the surface. Some will share that hurt, many will not. They will simply suffer in silence. Often times not because they do not want to speak, but many do not even know where to begin.
What I love about The Golddiggers Trust, is that as they are helping these young people to put the pieces of their lives back together, they are actually affirming within the young person, that they will be ok, they can be ok. Their past does not have to define them, and they are worth infinitely more than they can even imagine. They have what it takes to succeed.
I think a holistic youth ministry will do the same. It will equip young people to believe in their own inner strength. People in the world, including myself at times, are very easily offended, and often wallow in the aftermath for way too long. But resilient people snap back from an offence like a rubber band wrapped around twenties.
Of course every individual situation is different, but if Beth is finding breakthroughs in the darkest places, there is still hope for even the worst situations. I believe we would benefit from a generation of resilient young people.
How are you helping the young people in your life to be more resilient?

[7:29 PM] inkythoughts: How are y'all?
[7:29 PM] nyquildriver: a bit distracted, but good :) you?
[7:31 PM] inkythoughts: entering the NaNoWriMo panic :p
[7:31 PM] nyquildriver: ooooh man yeah, less than a week until it starts! :D
[7:32 PM] inkythoughts: I'm supposed to be co-ML and I am having major panics about what to do D:
[7:33 PM] nyquildriver: oh wow! that sounds like a lot to do on top of the writing
[7:34 PM] inkythoughts: Also I have no clue what to write I am pulling my plot together as I pull my cookies out of the oven. On the plus side, I have cookies AND stickers, so I will probably be forgiven.
[7:34 PM] inkythoughts: (somehow I will catch up on the NME reading)
[7:36 PM] nyquildriver: **nod** I've never really done NaNoWriMo (I started one month but my college was on the quarter system and midterms completely destroyed my ability to do more than 7k) but I feel like if I did try again, it'd be mostly writing by the seat of my pants
[7:36 PM] inkythoughts: So many books to read, so little time :p
[7:37 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Is the chat still going?
[7:37 PM] inkythoughts: Apparently!
[7:37 PM] nyquildriver: it's been very quiet for the las 45 minutes or so :)
[7:37 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: On break at work right now
[7:38 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: So decided to pop in for a bit
[7:39 PM] inkythoughts: So is anyone else kind of still stick on how the wiki for GWP mentiones "the boyfriend/girlfriend" thing??
[7:39 PM] inkythoughts: (...or has it been two long since I've read WAW and stuff already happened in it?)
[7:40 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Hmm, didn't notice, so no, haven't!
[7:40 PM] inkythoughts: http://www.youngwizards.com/ErrantryWiki/index.php/Games_Wizards_Play
[7:41 PM] inkythoughts: I'm not sure if they were an item in the books yet or no?
[7:41 PM] nyquildriver: only at the very end of AWOM
*Type /help for a list of commands.*
[7:42 PM] inkythoughts: I should really re-read :p
[7:44 PM] nyquildriver: it's actually a book I've been finding hard to get into, even as a re-read
[7:45 PM] nyquildriver: I'm listening to the audiobook version, and then I'll probably try again with the NME
[7:45 PM] inkythoughts: I just finished the NME of DW and am working my way up
[7:45 PM] nyquildriver: **nod**
[7:46 PM] inkythoughts: I did not remember how hard it punched in the feels
[7:46 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: It did feel weirdly like even more of a punch in the feels, didn't it?
[7:46 PM] silentmachina1: DW omg I had so many more feels this go round
[7:46 PM] nyquildriver: that book <3
[7:47 PM] silentmachina1: I think reading it younger a lot of stuff doesn't catch you as hard
[7:47 PM] inkythoughts: But the answer is very hard. Possibly I'm better able to appreciate the magnitude of the angstpain now than when i first read it too
[7:47 PM] inkythoughts: I can't remember how old I was when i started
[7:47 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: And yeah saying it was more of a punch in the feels is saying a LOT because for various reasons I find one of the most emotional of all of the books
[7:48 PM] inkythoughts: the worst is over and I can put away my tissues
[7:48 PM] nyquildriver: **nod** I first read it when I was.. 11 or 12, I think
[7:49 PM] nyquildriver: and emotionally it affects me much more today
[7:49 PM] nyquildriver: nita and carl on the beaaaach
[7:49 PM] silentmachina1: I think I read SYW when I was exactly Nita's atarting age, so 13 I guess
[7:49 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I.... For me 'when I started' is a complicated question because I was playing 'Young Wizards' inspired games of talking to trees with my sister when I was like... Six?
[7:49 PM] inkythoughts: I think WAW had just come out or a little bit before, so I'd have been 11ish?
[7:50 PM] inkythoughts: nyquildriver: I knowwwww ;~;
[7:50 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: But then I started reading the first book when I was maybe nine, ten but then I put it down and didn't finish it for like, a year or two, maybe
[7:50 PM] inkythoughts: dubiousculturalartifact: I am SO jealous. SO VERY MUCH
[7:51 PM] inkythoughts: I know I was raggin on my mom to read SYWTBAW for at least three or four years, and It's been quite a while since I've tried to recomend books to her
[7:51 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I distinctly remember my sister telling me all about how you need to ask trees for permission and approach them very politely before you take stuff from them
[7:51 PM] nyquildriver: I think the first time the series reaaally punched me in the feels was when I was a junior in high school, when AWD came out
[7:51 PM] inkythoughts: (to her credit she did read it. after many years.)
[7:51 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: And so we talked to trees for a while before taking some leaves for my sister's forest elf halloween costume.
[7:51 PM] inkythoughts: dubiousculturalartifact: D'aww
[7:51 PM] inkythoughts: >w<
[7:51 PM] nyquildriver: oh that is the most precious thing I have heard all day <3
[7:52 PM] inkythoughts: same
[7:52 PM] inkythoughts: nyquildriver: That one still hurts
[7:53 PM] nyquildriver: I do think that it still would have, well, emotionally compromised me if I had been 11 or 12 when I'd read it
[7:53 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Yeah I definitely got into them by way of my sister. But then, rather appropriate for the redheaded younger sister
[7:54 PM] inkythoughts: Hehehe
[7:54 PM] inkythoughts: I was introduced by way of the paperback sticking out from the shelf just that much that it caught my finger in a second hand bookshop
[7:55 PM] nyquildriver: ooooh niiiiiice :D
[7:55 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Obligatory 'hey by the way my sister is troublesmysight on tumblr go follow her she is cool' shameless promoing
[7:55 PM] nyquildriver: I just remember browsing the paperbacks in the library and seeing a whale on the cover and going "oooh whales"
[7:55 PM] nyquildriver: (I'd read DW first)
[7:55 PM] silentmachina1: I forget how I found it
[7:55 PM] inkythoughts: duly followed
[7:56 PM] silentmachina1: Some books just kinda... call my name
[7:56 PM] inkythoughts: Know that feel
[7:57 PM] nyquildriver: I remember being delighted and impressed with how seriously the coming-out-as-a-wizard scene was treated
[7:57 PM] nyquildriver: and also the song of the twelve was one of the most beautiful things I had ever read
[7:58 PM] inkythoughts: I remember being so darn proud when I figured how to make the mac boot with a biteless apple :'D
[7:58 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Ooooh awesome
[7:58 PM] inkythoughts: nyquildriver: was and is
[7:58 PM] nyquildriver: :)
[7:58 PM] nyquildriver: yes
[7:58 PM] inkythoughts: OS X Lion made it stupid hard though, I haven't been able to get it on my new laptop
[7:59 PM] silentmachina1: Lion was the woooooooorst
[7:59 PM] inkythoughts: That was the highlight of my YW forum experience: posting a tutorial and making a video and topic of the week :'D
[8:00 PM] inkythoughts: It has this little animation thing at the end of booting where the logo flies up and I've tried replacing all the right files but it ends up looking huges and weird and gross
[8:00 PM] nyquildriver: aww :(
[8:01 PM] inkythoughts: (and also the logo has like dumb textures now)
[8:04 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Anyone else here thinking of doing NaNoWriMo?
[8:07 PM] silentmachina1: I would try but I don't think I'd make it more than a couple days
[8:07 PM] inkythoughts: Spoiler the stickers are fab this year https://store.nanowrimo.org/files/images/products/detailed/nano_14_stickers_detail_eyewrite.png
[8:08 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oooh, nifty!
[8:08 PM] inkythoughts: and if you have an ML and you go to a write if you should get one for free
[8:08 PM] nyquildriver: still working on ginormous podfic project, so no
[8:09 PM] nyquildriver: (I think my beta-listeners would buy plane tickets just to come over and throttle me if I took on something else to distract me from it xD)
[8:09 PM] inkythoughts: XD
[8:10 PM] inkythoughts: dubiousculturalartifact: are you?
[8:10 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Yes, I just sort of spur of the moment signed up again about twenty minutes ago
[8:11 PM] inkythoughts: What's you username and region, if you don't mind?
[8:11 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: 222ravens, Victoria, BC
[8:11 PM] nyquildriver: good luck to both of you!!
[8:11 PM] inkythoughts: thanks!
[8:12 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Thanks!
[8:13 PM] inkythoughts: sweet! are you homed to your region?
[8:13 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I think so, yeah!
[8:13 PM] inkythoughts: :D
[8:14 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: How about you?
[8:14 PM] inkythoughts: I'm xcmer in Asia::Taiwan
[8:14 PM] inkythoughts: but basically if any cousins do nano and can't get stickers I will probably have a few extra
[8:15 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Ooh, found you!
[8:16 PM] inkythoughts: f-f-f-friendssssss
[8:17 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Argghhh but I've got to head back to work now, dai, all!
[8:17 PM] inkythoughts: I should probably go do the thing where I fold my clothes instead of leaving them in a heap now
[8:17 PM] inkythoughts: Bye!
[8:18 PM] calinaestel: sfdadsgfe
[8:18 PM] nyquildriver: ....whoops
[8:24 PM] calinaestel: SOMEONE REMIND ME WHY I LIKE THIS WEBCOMIC
[8:27 PM] silentmachina1: I keep watching the flash
[8:27 PM] silentmachina1: It's like a train wreck
[8:28 PM] silentmachina1: but with a replay button
[8:28 PM] nyquildriver: **blink**
[8:28 PM] nyquildriver: .....home...stuck?
[8:28 PM] calinaestel: ye
[8:29 PM] nyquildriver: **isn't a reader, and is finding the freakouts visible even amongst all the tumblr savioring pretty hilarious**
[8:29 PM] calinaestel: sorry
[8:29 PM] nyquildriver: no it's cool **grin**
[8:29 PM] calinaestel: I JUST
[8:29 PM] calinaestel: THINGS ARE HAPPENING
[8:29 PM] nyquildriver: **nod**
[8:29 PM] silentmachina1: At least *she*'s finally dealt with
[8:30 PM] calinaestel: yeah
[8:31 PM] calinaestel: i'm just concerned by the glitchystuff coming back
[8:32 PM] silentmachina1: I'm not sure what it's gonna wind up meaning, like I mean it's corrupting the story but...
[8:33 PM] silentmachina1: And there's also the matter of what's gonna happen to the timeline with Aranea gone?
[8:34 PM] calinaestel: hopefully it'll just be a doomed offshoot and it won't matter, and we'll go back to the alpha
[8:34 PM] silentmachina1: I'm tempted to think it's doomed because there's usually so much more fanfare around major deaths
[8:34 PM] calinaestel: right, that too
[8:35 PM] silentmachina1: Plus there are like 3 separate points where it's hinted it's doomed
[8:35 PM] calinaestel: i expect people like dave and karkat and
[8:35 PM] calinaestel: gamzee
[8:35 PM] calinaestel: to have much more... i guess fanfare like you said, yeah
[8:36 PM] calinaestel: like, everyone else too but especially them
[8:36 PM] silentmachina1: Like the other time we had a character go out like that it was when John did
[8:36 PM] silentmachina1: offscreen
[8:36 PM] calinaestel: mhm
[8:37 PM] silentmachina1: Obviously if it is doomed though, something's gonna get brought back
[8:37 PM] silentmachina1: Or Hussie wouldn't b showing it to us
[8:37 PM] calinaestel: right...
[8:38 PM] calinaestel: it's got significance to the alpha timeline, even if it isn't *actually* the alpha timeline
[8:38 PM] silentmachina1: I'd say almost certainly something to do with Roxy
[8:38 PM] silentmachina1: And the fact that John just zapped into the aftermath
[8:38 PM] calinaestel: yeah probably
[8:38 PM] calinaestel: roxy had to go *somewhere*
[8:40 PM] silentmachina1: It's possible John might get to take something with him
[8:42 PM] calinaestel: maybe
[9:08 PM] silentmachina1: Okie, I'm turning in
[9:08 PM] silentmachina1: Dai~
[9:08 PM] nyquildriver: dai! nighty :)
[9:08 PM] calinaestel: oh, dai
[9:56 PM] iridescentoracle: ohhhh god i don't know how to feel about this
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: wow
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: just got back from whovians
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: re-checked the update on my laptop instead of phone
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: oh jeez
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: the glitchy stuff is coming back
[9:57 PM] calinaestel: i knoooow
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: this is... probably bad??? i think???
[9:57 PM] iridescentoracle: i don't even know???
[9:57 PM] calinaestel: probably?
[9:57 PM] calinaestel: i know right
[10:35 PM] nyquildriver: aha okay wow it's late
[10:36 PM] nyquildriver: good night! :) today's was a really nice chat <3
[10:37 PM] iridescentoracle: g'night!
[10:44 PM] iridescentoracle: i'm gonna go ahead and assume nobody's gonna say anything else tonight?
[10:44 PM] iridescentoracle: so i'm posting the last of the log now
[10:44 PM] imsignificant: kk
[10:45 PM] imsignificant: i wandered off and came back to 99+ messages but no one talking any more :P
[10:45 PM] iridescentoracle: when i'm the last one left in the chat/i go to bed (if there's no more conversation happening at that point) i'll edit in the last few lines
[10:47 PM] calinaestel: i'm still here but if everyone else is calling it a night i can hop off for the sake of logs
[10:48 PM] iridescentoracle: nah, it's fine if people still wanna chat!
[10:48 PM] iridescentoracle: like that's kinda what i'm trying to say, it's totally okay for the conversation to get going again
[10:49 PM] iridescentoracle: but just fyi it'll probably end up in part 5 unless it gets long enough to warrant a new post
[10:49 PM] calinaestel: shrug
[10:49 PM] calinaestel: i don't have much to say at this point, i'm just working on filling out my dragon encyclopedia
[10:51 PM] calinaestel: (where the heck am i supposed to find this many chickens?)
[1:06 AM] iridescentoracle: mkay i'm crashing
[1:07 AM] calinaestel: fair enough, it's late
[1:07 AM] calinaestel: dai
[1:07 AM] iridescentoracle: dai!
YWchat -- part 4 -- 10/25/14
[4:45 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'm looking back at my liveblog of the one Avatar episode I've disliked so far
[4:45 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it's very amusing in hindsight
[4:45 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I got really worked up
[4:46 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Sometimes liveblog ranting can be very cathartic
[4:46 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it really was
[4:47 PM] silentmachina: heyyyyyy~
[4:47 PM] silentmachina: What'd I miss?
[4:47 PM] kenporusty: I haven't liveblogged much. I should do more
[4:47 PM] kenporusty: wb!!
[4:48 PM] iridescentoracle: hey!
[4:48 PM] silentmachina: I can't consistently keep up with any show unless it's a special interest
[4:48 PM] nyquildriver: wb! :)
[4:49 PM] kenporusty: I have a tendency to ignore things and then binge
[4:49 PM] iridescentoracle: hey totally irrelevant but can y'all give me some help with a thing? i'm looking for names for these two dragons on flight rising
[4:49 PM] kenporusty: and then be sad when there's no more
[4:49 PM] silentmachina: See that's so much easier b/c inertia
[4:49 PM] peridexis: @iridescentoracle sure!
[4:49 PM] peridexis: what kind of names?
[4:49 PM] enterprisinggentleman: @iridescent: I like naming stuff! Specifics?
[4:49 PM] iridescentoracle: do you know the Dragonriders of Pern series?
[4:49 PM] iridescentoracle: http://iridescentoracle.tumblr.com/post/100933797187
[4:49 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ...vaguely. Read like one book and one short story once
[4:49 PM] iridescentoracle: there's pictures of the two of them
[4:50 PM] peridexis: I don't know that series...
[4:50 PM] iridescentoracle: okay, well, basically what i'm doing is looking for names that don't necessarily mean anything
[4:50 PM] iridescentoracle: but sound good and that sound like they fit the way the dragon looks
[4:50 PM] iridescentoracle: and end in -th
[4:50 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Bob
[4:51 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Bobth
[4:51 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh wait didn't see that stipulation. Bobth, then.
[4:51 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (falls over laughing)
[4:51 PM] iridescentoracle: a couple of them i've tweaked latin words for, others just sound cool
[4:51 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (we're so helpful)
[4:51 PM] iridescentoracle: :::laughing::: i will consider it
[4:51 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: (laughs with you)
[4:51 PM] silentmachina: Reth and Nerith
[4:51 PM] peridexis: sarath
[4:51 PM] silentmachina: **smooshes random letters together**
[4:52 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: (keyboard smashes) Ehuihureiuher...th.
[4:52 PM] kenporusty: Kyreth
[4:52 PM] peridexis: ooh i like that one
[4:52 PM] iridescentoracle: oooh, yes
[4:52 PM] littleskywatcher: gadareth
[4:52 PM] kenporusty: Osoth
[4:52 PM] enterprisinggentleman: yeah, that's got a ring to it
[4:52 PM] silentmachina: Hehe I'm the worst at names so sometimes I go to google translate to see if I can find any like Welsh or Irish I could finagle into something name-sounding
[4:52 PM] kenporusty: (little did you know that's an original character of mine with an -th muahahaha)
[4:52 PM] enterprisinggentleman: oooh, good idea
[4:52 PM] silentmachina: Caledfwlth
[4:53 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'm so bad about coming up with names
[4:53 PM] nyquildriver: Belgarath xD
[4:53 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I have so many baby-name sites bookmarked for book writing
[4:53 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and everyone still ends up being, like
[4:53 PM] iridescentoracle: I SAW THAT @SILENTMACHINA WAS THAT A DELIBERATE
[4:53 PM] enterprisinggentleman: "steve"
[4:53 PM] nyquildriver: wb!
[4:53 PM] enterprisinggentleman: or something
[4:53 PM] silentmachina: wb Ana!
[4:53 PM] iridescentoracle: ah wb!
[4:54 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ...?
[4:54 PM] iridescentoracle: homestuck
[4:54 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ah y
[4:54 PM] iridescentoracle: Caledfwlch is a thing
[4:54 PM] silentmachina: Partly *giggles*
[4:54 PM] iridescentoracle: I KNEW IT
[4:54 PM] silentmachina: It's also just the original name for Excalibur
[4:54 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ye
[4:54 PM] enterprisinggentleman: i kinda sorta knew those things
[4:55 PM] iridescentoracle: well yeah but
[4:55 PM] iridescentoracle: i feel like right now if something /could/ be a homestuck reference it probably is
[4:55 PM] silentmachina: Dave tho
[4:55 PM] silentmachina: **pillowflop**
[4:56 PM] enterprisinggentleman: isn't it all an alternate timeline or something though?
[4:56 PM] kenporusty: if it's a homestuck reference, it'll go over my head lol
[4:56 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (and same)
[4:56 PM] iridescentoracle: :::*pillowflops with you*:::
[4:56 PM] iridescentoracle: @e sorta
[4:56 PM] iridescentoracle: basically everything that just happened is probably going to be undone in the near-ish future
[4:56 PM] enterprisinggentleman: that's about how i understood it
[4:56 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and speaking of which
*Please don't spam/flood the chat.*
*Please don't spam/flood the chat.*
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: the Games Wizars Play preview
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: but
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'm sure people were talking about it before I came in but
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: we don't know how far back "everything that just happened" goes
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: yeah
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: and yes people were!
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: THAT IS MY THEORY
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: IT'S ALL PART OF THE GAMES
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: i think it's all posted now if you wanna read the transcript btw
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: and YES SAME
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: NOBODY IS ACTUALLY DEAD
[4:57 PM] iridescentoracle: KOBAYASHI MARU Y/Y
[4:57 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Arggh I realize I've got to go and get some food before going to work... Dai, all!
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: TOTALLY
[4:57 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Dai, Dubious!
[4:57 PM] silentmachina: That's the reigning theory yep
[4:57 PM] silentmachina: Dai!
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and yeah, the whole preview reminded me so much of the Kobayashi Maru scene
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: at the start of Wrath of Khan
[4:58 PM] iridescentoracle: (and also the reason we're flopping onto pillows about dave is bc character development and pain)
[4:58 PM] iridescentoracle: (there's a thing with Heroic deaths)
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I have been filled in on Dave, yeah
[4:58 PM] iridescentoracle: (okay cool)
[4:58 PM] iridescentoracle: thanks for the help with the names btw!
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (re: GWP: the person working with Kit is my new favorite)
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: what was her name again?
[4:58 PM] silentmachina: Lissa?
[4:58 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Lissa!
[4:59 PM] silentmachina: I swear there's a Lissa in something else I've read...
[4:59 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Anyone who refers to a compound of conventional explosives mixed with wizardry
[4:59 PM] enterprisinggentleman: as "hyperblooey"
[4:59 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I like
[4:59 PM] iridescentoracle: yes
[4:59 PM] nyquildriver: *grin*
[4:59 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I can't decide who I want her to meet first: Dairine, or CARMELA
[4:59 PM] nyquildriver: sounds like a new yw tag we need for stuff
[4:59 PM] nyquildriver: I dunno what stuff
[5:00 PM] enterprisinggentleman: but some kind of stuff, yes
[5:00 PM] silentmachina: OH FIRE EMBLEM
[5:00 PM] enterprisinggentleman: one way or another it is a phrase i will make a point of adding to my day-to-day vocab
[5:00 PM] iridescentoracle: oh hey i gotta do some chores
[5:00 PM] peridexis: (i gotta go again, i'm gonna eat some dessert-before-dinner)
[5:00 PM] iridescentoracle: take out the trash/vaccum
[5:00 PM] peridexis: (bye!)
[5:00 PM] iridescentoracle: wanna get that done while people are still awake and before whovians and stuff
[5:00 PM] iridescentoracle: i will leave the chat open for log purposes
[5:00 PM] nyquildriver: okay, dai! :)
[5:00 PM] silentmachina: *waves*
[5:00 PM] enterprisinggentleman: also brb laundry
[5:02 PM] littleskywatcher: ok but re: GWP i'm really interested in the burning-manual image?
[5:03 PM] littleskywatcher: also apparently i'm going to the store so ON THAT NOTE
[5:03 PM] littleskywatcher: dai, all <3
[5:04 PM] nyquildriver: dai!!
[5:05 PM] calinaestel: late again but kyreth reminds me of kyriel (then again, i'm probably biased) and caledfwlth is just hilarious
[5:05 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Dai!
[5:05 PM] calinaestel: oh, dai
[5:05 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (and oh my God the burning manual)
[5:05 PM] calinaestel: IGNORES ALL THE GWP TALK
[5:05 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (that's one of the most brutal images we've HAD in the series so far and it's how it STARTS)
[5:05 PM] calinaestel: HASN'T READ THE EXCERPT THING (AND ISN'T PLANNING TO UNTIL THE BOOK COMES OUT)
[5:06 PM] enterprisinggentleman: AHA GOTCHA
[5:06 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'LL SHUT UP ABOUT IT THEN
[5:06 PM] calinaestel: eheh, it's ok
[5:06 PM] calinaestel: thankfully i have a terrible memory and will have forgotten all of this by the time it's actually out
[5:07 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ah, well, that works
[5:07 PM] calinaestel: well, thankfully in this case, it's usually SUPER ANNOYING
[5:07 PM] calinaestel: ah well
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: i know the feel
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: my memory is strangely selective
[5:08 PM] calinaestel: ikr
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: i vividly remember some things from when I was four
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and have entirely forgotten some stuff from last week
[5:08 PM] kenporusty: I need to get going and get to sleep, I have to work at 5 am tomorrow
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: or probably even yesterday
[5:08 PM] calinaestel: i vividly remember a couple of nightmares i had when i was little
[5:08 PM] calinaestel: dai!
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and ouch, yeah, go get some rest!
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Dai!
[5:08 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (and same)
[5:09 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (there's that ONE DREAM I had twice when I was like seven)
[5:09 PM] calinaestel: but yeah i'll forget things like. my birthday? and what i had for breakfast?
[5:09 PM] kenporusty: Almost everything in my mind is a blur before like 2004
[5:09 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (and can still picture perfectly)
[5:09 PM] kenporusty: daiiiii
[5:10 PM] nyquildriver: oooh dai!
[5:11 PM] calinaestel: (shrugs and wanders back over to dragon cave)
[5:11 PM] enterprisinggentleman: btw, as this is the first feelsjam since all the announcements, let me express Great Excitement over CrossingsCon
[5:12 PM] calinaestel: :D
[5:12 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and all the dates and times and Things That Are Happening
[5:12 PM] silentmachina: Crosssingsssssss
[5:12 PM] nyquildriver: oh mannn crossingscon <3
[5:12 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I fully intend to try to cosplay Roshaun
[5:12 PM] nyquildriver: and GWP
[5:12 PM] nyquildriver: and MARK READS
[5:13 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ALL HAPPENING PRETTY MUCH AT ONCE
[5:13 PM] enterprisinggentleman: what a time to be alive
[5:13 PM] nyquildriver: so I went to the Mark Does Stuff meetup in London
[5:13 PM] nyquildriver: in august
[5:13 PM] nyquildriver: and when he announced it, I kind of made a tiny scene by shrieking and then crying
[5:14 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Understandably so!
[5:14 PM] nyquildriver: so many emotions
[5:14 PM] nyquildriver: especially since previously I had been made at various times upset and sad and confused over his refusal to read the series
[5:15 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it seems like most of the objections were just scheduling-related, fortunately, and have now been ironed out
[5:17 PM] silentmachina: tbh I haven't looked at much Mark stuff so I'm a bit confused about what's exceptional there
[5:17 PM] nyquildriver: before he said it was "too long" but now he's finished tortall and going through discworld, so. x)
[5:18 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Ahh
[5:18 PM] nyquildriver: you can watch him reading stuff cold on youtube and see his reactions to things as they happen, and then he does in-depth writeups on his blog
[5:19 PM] nyquildriver: and the comments sections are usually pretty magical because people do their own analyses as well
[5:19 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it all started with him reading Twilight, having barely heard of it before, and writing a horrified and very entertaining liveblog
[5:19 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and then he did the same thing with Harry Potter and loved it
[5:19 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and yeah, a whole community grew up around his liveblogging
[5:20 PM] nyquildriver: he gets really emotional really easily, so it's super-fun to watch him read stuff
[5:23 PM] silentmachina: I've hardly watched any of his stuff b/c most of it is stuff I haven't read myself
[5:26 PM] silentmachina: I think I tried starting with him doing John Dies and didn't get far
[5:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: btw, random topic change here, but
[5:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I just wanted to emphasize something I mentioned briefly before
[5:29 PM] imsignificant: hallo
[5:29 PM] imsignificant: i am back
[5:29 PM] silentmachina: hai
[5:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: A friend of mine and I were in a playwriting workshop last year
[5:29 PM] nyquildriver: wb!
[5:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and the one-act play she wrote
[5:29 PM] imsignificant: steve?
[5:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: was chosen to be part of this year's official fall theatre production on campus!
[5:30 PM] imsignificant: and what did silentmachina do?
[5:30 PM] enterprisinggentleman: And it's a super huge deal and I get to see it next week and I"m just very happy about it
[5:30 PM] imsignificant: @eg, cool!
[5:30 PM] silentmachina: hwa
[5:30 PM] silentmachina: what did I do
[5:30 PM] silentmachina: Oh cool!
[5:31 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it's about a couple of ghost hunters and it's great
[5:32 PM] imsignificant: iridescentoracle said: I SAW THAT @SILENTMACHINA WAS THAT A DELIBERATE
[5:32 PM] silentmachina: Oh, hehe I did a Homestuck
[5:32 PM] imsignificant: what did u do? other than be awesome
[5:32 PM] imsignificant: ah
[5:32 PM] imsignificant: heh
[5:33 PM] calinaestel: nnnnnnnn
[5:33 PM] imsignificant: (33 screaming frogs)
[5:33 PM] silentmachina: **blushies**
[5:33 PM] calinaestel: even more screaming frogs
[5:33 PM] calinaestel: all of the screaming frogs
[5:33 PM] calinaestel: all of them
[5:33 PM] nyquildriver: oooooh that sounds awesome :D
[5:38 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Okay, I think I'm gonna head out for now, because pizza and Doctor Who
[5:38 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Dai Stiho, and lovely talking to you all!
[5:38 PM] silentmachina: Dai~
[5:39 PM] nyquildriver: dai!
[5:39 PM] calinaestel: i'd say dai but he's already gone
[5:39 PM] calinaestel: :T
[5:39 PM] nyquildriver: that keeps happening to me, hhe
[5:41 PM] silentmachina: **makes weird noises**
[5:43 PM] silentmachina: ...I'm running out of shows to watch in backlog again, anybody have any unusual recs?
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: gRAVITY FLALS
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: *GRAVITY FALLS
[5:45 PM] silentmachina: YESSSSS
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: G R A V I T Y F A L L S
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: unless you're implying you've already watched it and i didn't realize
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: in which case do you have a tag for me to go through
[5:45 PM] silentmachina: =T Disney scheduling is the bane of me
[5:45 PM] iridescentoracle: http://www.animetoon.tv/gravity-falls-episode-1
[5:45 PM] silentmachina: They can't make it fast enough
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: ah
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: yeah
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: well i mean like
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: if the next ep's as good as it looks to be...
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: i'd call that worth the wait, y'know?
[5:46 PM] silentmachina: Oooo I don't think I've seen the promos for this one
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: (and so does that mean you have in fact seen it/caught up)
[5:46 PM] iridescentoracle: (what is your tag)
[5:47 PM] iridescentoracle: (my queue's running low i've only got like ~fifteen-ish GF posts left i think?)
[5:47 PM] silentmachina: I'd probably just tag #gravity falls, but I don't think I've tagged most of my reblogs of it thus far
[5:47 PM] iridescentoracle: ah gotcha
[5:49 PM] imsignificant: (sighs deeply about gravity falls)
[5:49 PM] imsignificant: (tbh i cant watch it)
[5:49 PM] silentmachina: **hug?*
[5:49 PM] imsignificant: (tbh i cant watch it)
[5:49 PM] silentmachina: **hug?**
[5:49 PM] iridescentoracle: :::hug:::
[5:49 PM] iridescentoracle: (why not?)
[5:49 PM] iridescentoracle: (you don't have to answer that)
[5:49 PM] imsignificant: (paperjam dipper)
[5:49 PM] iridescentoracle: (ah)
[5:49 PM] imsignificant: (was a super disturbing thing for me)
[5:50 PM] iridescentoracle: (yeahhhh that was. i did not like that part tbh,)
[5:50 PM] silentmachina: (oof yeah that was a bad)
[5:50 PM] imsignificant: its one of those things where like, idk sometimes i tolerate stuff and sometimes i dont
[5:50 PM] imsignificant: and that was just a nope i guess
[5:51 PM] iridescentoracle: yeah
[5:51 PM] imsignificant: like, i started watching that new anime, yuki yuna is a hero?
[5:51 PM] imsignificant: and it has some gross fanservice shots ugh
[5:51 PM] imsignificant: and its extra gross b/c they are in middle school? but also
[5:51 PM] iridescentoracle: ugh seriously?
[5:51 PM] silentmachina: ew
[5:51 PM] iridescentoracle: blerg
[5:51 PM] imsignificant: i really liked everything else and am going to keep watching
[5:52 PM] imsignificant: i never know when something is going to be a dealbreaker or not
[5:52 PM] silentmachina: I can't believe how gross some animes are now and just nobody stops it???
[5:52 PM] nyquildriver: ughhh
[5:52 PM] imsignificant: yeah idk why there needed to be a boob jiggle shot of a middle schooler can we NOT
[5:52 PM] nyquildriver: the only anime I've been able to watch this season is gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun
[5:52 PM] imsignificant: but everything else was SO GOOD
[5:53 PM] silentmachina: There was one I tried to start and the characters were like 10 but they were doing skirt shots? like NOPE
[5:53 PM] nyquildriver: well, and sailor moon crystal :)
[5:53 PM] iridescentoracle: YES GOOD SMC
[5:53 PM] silentmachina: SMC is so goooood
[5:53 PM] silentmachina: THE MUSIC
[5:54 PM] iridescentoracle: THE MUSIC UGH YES
[5:54 PM] nyquildriver: hehe I'm really enjoying your loving it, iridescentoracle :D
[5:54 PM] iridescentoracle: and actually i know there's a lot of really off-model shots but
[5:54 PM] iridescentoracle: the animation is really gorgeous??
[5:54 PM] nyquildriver: yeah, but that's normal of most anime these days
[5:55 PM] nyquildriver: have you seen any of the comparison images? they're fixing a lot of stuff and improving animation for the blu-rays
[5:55 PM] iridescentoracle: the frequency of off-model shots or the quality of the good animation?
[5:55 PM] iridescentoracle: and yeah!
[5:55 PM] iridescentoracle: it looks AMAZING
[5:55 PM] silentmachina: One of the ones I loved recently was Aldnoah Zero
[5:55 PM] nyquildriver: the fact that stuff can look a bit off-model or awful on airing, haha
[5:55 PM] iridescentoracle: (and i'm glad you're enjoying my enjoyment of it, haha ^_^)
[5:56 PM] iridescentoracle: ah, gotcha
[5:56 PM] nyquildriver: I mean here: http://pinklikeme.tumblr.com/post/100484989762/silvermoon424-guten-morgen-tiny012
[5:56 PM] nyquildriver: mamoru looked good before, but DANG those after shots
[5:57 PM] iridescentoracle: indeed
[5:57 PM] nyquildriver: there's a good bit of negativity in the sailor moon fandom because of off-model stuff, which is annoying because like I said it's a common thing
[5:58 PM] nyquildriver: ffs pmmm had the same thing happening
[5:58 PM] silentmachina: off-model from what?
[5:59 PM] nyquildriver: just frames of characters looking wonky
[5:59 PM] nyquildriver: episode 3 was notable for it
[5:59 PM] silentmachina: And people fuss about it? I don't even notice it
[6:00 PM] nyquildriver: it doesn't help that this show obviously has a very low budget
[6:00 PM] nyquildriver: yeah, parts of the sailor moon fandom are unpleasable
[6:00 PM] iridescentoracle: i didn't notice it until people started pointing it out, really
[6:00 PM] nyquildriver: oh, husband's going to bed
[6:00 PM] nyquildriver: back shortly :)
[6:01 PM] silentmachina: Although I guess the youtube comments for a lot of anime series I enjoyed tend to be full of animation-bashing
[6:01 PM] silentmachina: And I'm just like ??? It looks like fine animation to me?
[6:02 PM] iridescentoracle: yeah
[6:03 PM] iridescentoracle: okay i'm gonna run get dinner going
[6:03 PM] iridescentoracle: brb
[6:04 PM] silentmachina: Oh! btw Aldnoah Zero has a protag who's almost certainly autistic. Just tw for assorted war violence/war crimes.
YWchat -- part 3 -- 10/25/14
[2:59 PM] imsignificant: but when it grows out i get UGH
[2:59 PM] nyquildriver: here's a pic of me showing off my haircut a month ago: http://fulldaysdrive.parakaproductions.com/hair.jpg
[2:59 PM] imsignificant: i look in the mirror and just kind of dissociate
[2:59 PM] imsignificant: and my hair grows so damn fast
[2:59 PM] playthesims: cute!
[2:59 PM] imsignificant: ooh cute
[2:59 PM] silentmachina: I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the mega-short nightmare I used to, god it showed my whole hairline and forehead and yick
[2:59 PM] nyquildriver: I took the plunge and got a bob for the first time since I was 12
[3:00 PM] silentmachina: Cute!
[3:00 PM] imsignificant: like, i got it cut just before coming to school so its been like 2 months?
[3:00 PM] peridexis: ahhhh it looks so good
[3:00 PM] nyquildriver: thanks all :D <3
[3:00 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: it's a good haircut
[3:00 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: @nyquildriver, For the Roshaun one? It was halfway 'squint because no glasses and aRGGH am I in position for the pose in the five second timer', but glad it worked!
[3:00 PM] imsignificant: and i have had to cut my bangs twice, its grown literally 2 inches
[3:00 PM] imsignificant: an inch a month what the hell
[3:00 PM] peridexis: there are so many haircuts i want that i just couldn't get
[3:01 PM] peridexis: because my hair is willlld. it does such weird things.
[3:01 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: And ooh, nice haircut!
[3:01 PM] nyquildriver: @dubious it was hilarious xD
[3:01 PM] imsignificant: @peridexis it looks really good in like all your selfies tho, so many styles look good on you
[3:01 PM] peridexis: ahhh /o\
[3:02 PM] peridexis: covers face. thank u
*Type /help for a list of commands.*
[3:03 PM] littleskywatcher: ^^
[3:03 PM] silentmachina: (*muscle ache noises* I only ever get sick like immediately after midterms but when I do it hits hard)
[3:03 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: :(
[3:04 PM] silentmachina: an inch a month wow Ana can I have your bangs pls
[3:05 PM] imsignificant: yes please take all my hair growth it SUCKS
[3:05 PM] imsignificant: for me at least
[3:05 PM] peridexis: mine grows that fast too and you are WELCOME to it >:(
[3:05 PM] peridexis: fast growing hair is the bane of my existence
[3:05 PM] imsignificant: ^ that
[3:05 PM] peridexis: i get one hairstyle and two weeks later it just doesn't look the same
[3:05 PM] imsignificant: its so expensive too
[3:05 PM] littleskywatcher: it's like 'ah yes the perfect haircut' [one week later] wHAT A MESS
[3:05 PM] imsignificant: b/c i dye mine now
[3:05 PM] nyquildriver: I hate having to trimm y own bangs :/
[3:06 PM] imsignificant: im really good at triming my bangs now lol
[3:06 PM] peridexis: i'm prob going to revert back to cutting my own hair instead of going to a shop.
[3:06 PM] littleskywatcher: i'm asking for clippers for christmas
[3:06 PM] peridexis: my hair is very curly when short though, so it's kind of hard to properly trim.
[3:07 PM] silentmachina: Every time I get mine cut I'm like ah yes now I have to wait another 4 months for the next hopefully better cut
[3:07 PM] silentmachina: Like it grows but I like messy long better than bad short
[3:07 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I have just sort of managed to procrastinate on getting a hair cut for the past.....
[3:07 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I....
[3:07 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I legitimately do not know how long.
[3:08 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: A year and a half? More? Oh gosh I am terrible
[3:10 PM] peridexis: @silentmachina Have you ever tried cutting/trimming your own hair? like it can be hard but it often
n
[3:10 PM] peridexis: is easier to get the results you want without having to explain anything to your hairdresser.
[3:11 PM] silentmachina: Haven't really thought about it
[3:11 PM] peridexis: If you've got a steady hand it might be worth trying out. It's easier with a second mirror
[3:12 PM] peridexis: Like if you have a hand mirror plus a bathroom mirror so you can see the back of your head too
[3:12 PM] silentmachina: Might try it out
[3:12 PM] peridexis: good luck if you do!
[3:12 PM] silentmachina: I'm just letting it grow out for a while rn, since last cut actually came out with a decent shape
[3:13 PM] silentmachina: Thanks!
[3:13 PM] playthesims: so
[3:13 PM] playthesims: my mom hit her hand with a hammer
[3:14 PM] playthesims: and has an injury
[3:14 PM] playthesims: so, um
[3:14 PM] playthesims: I'll be on later maybe
[3:14 PM] playthesims: when we get back from the urgent care center
[3:14 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: yeesh
[3:14 PM] littleskywatcher: [beams positive thoughts your way]
[3:14 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: best wishes!
[3:14 PM] littleskywatcher: take care! <3
[3:14 PM] peridexis: ohhh take care
[3:14 PM] nyquildriver: omg D:
[3:14 PM] playthesims: dai guys! Thanks!
[3:14 PM] imsignificant: dai
[3:14 PM] peridexis: dai!
[3:15 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh, yikes, hope she'll be okay!
[3:18 PM] littleskywatcher: it is after 3pm and i have done nothing with my day
[3:18 PM] littleskywatcher: well i guess i tried root rescue bUT
[3:18 PM] imsignificant: its 5 here and same
[3:19 PM] imsignificant: tho i am doing kanji homework now
[3:19 PM] peridexis: saaame. i slept till past noon D: D: D:
[3:19 PM] imsignificant: im not feeling good at all tho so i have an excuse at least?
[3:19 PM] nyquildriver: converting half this puree into pumpkin butter 8D
[3:19 PM] imsignificant: but i have a lab report, an essay, and a takehome test to do this weekend im gonna die
[3:19 PM] peridexis: i don't get full nights through of sleep during the week, so i catch up on weekends.
[3:19 PM] peridexis: probably not the best strategy but.
[3:20 PM] peridexis: @imsignificant noooo you can do this!
[3:20 PM] littleskywatcher: better than not catching up?
[3:20 PM] peridexis: i believe in you
[3:20 PM] littleskywatcher: gooooo sigfig!
[3:20 PM] peridexis: (and yeah, probably better.)
[3:20 PM] nyquildriver: **waves pom-poms for sigfig** <3
[3:21 PM] imsignificant: thank you guys
[3:21 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: GOoOOOOOOOO SIGFIG
[3:21 PM] imsignificant: one of those is an extension from like, 2? 3? weeks ago
[3:21 PM] imsignificant: im not even including another essay b/c i am prioritizing
[3:21 PM] imsignificant: thank heavens for accomodations tho
[3:22 PM] silentmachina: gooooooo
[3:22 PM] silentmachina: wow yeah that sounds like a ton of work
[3:23 PM] imsignificant: i just got behind a couple weeks ago and am still dealing with that
[3:23 PM] imsignificant: tbh the essays are like, 2-3 pages double spaced? but still
[3:24 PM] silentmachina: essays are usually scarier to start than finish
[3:25 PM] silentmachina: *laughs* I'm suuuuper length-impaired though
[3:25 PM] imsignificant: yeah i just
[3:25 PM] imsignificant: INERTIA
[3:25 PM] silentmachina: yeppppp
[3:25 PM] imsignificant: i cannot make myself do the thing
[3:25 PM] peridexis: i have the same issue with
[3:25 PM] peridexis: basically everything.
[3:25 PM] imsignificant: once im doing it it will be over in a couple hours but
[3:26 PM] imsignificant: starting the thing, especially now when its been overdue for like 2 weeks
[3:26 PM] imsignificant: my brains just like 'how about you just DONT'
[3:26 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i feel that
[3:27 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: inertia i mean
[3:28 PM] littleskywatcher: same
[3:28 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Inertiaaaa
[3:28 PM] peridexis: i try to explain to my parents that it's different than me being deliberately lazy
[3:28 PM] peridexis: it's like. i just physically and mentally can't start
[3:28 PM] silentmachina: ugh parents who don't get it
[3:28 PM] peridexis: like a car that won't drive
[3:29 PM] silentmachina: My dad's favorite scapegoat is electronics
[3:29 PM] imsignificant: ugh
[3:29 PM] imsignificant: yeah
[3:29 PM] littleskywatcher: ^ that's my dad's favorite too
[3:29 PM] imsignificant: inertia is the worst
[3:30 PM] imsignificant: my dad used to get mad at me for what he called 'pleasure reading'
[3:30 PM] imsignificant: which was just, any reading that wasnt homework
[3:30 PM] littleskywatcher: or y'know he makes snide comments about my hair affecting my ability to be a productive human since i don't look like one
[3:30 PM] peridexis: same w my dad re: pleasure reading.
[3:30 PM] peridexis: @littleskywatcher ???????????????????????????
[3:30 PM] imsignificant: goddddd
[3:30 PM] littleskywatcher: [shakes head] he literally said NOTHING about my hair for the first like six months????
[3:31 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Your hair???
[3:31 PM] littleskywatcher: but then this summer he was like 'your hair is up there with tattoos and multiple piercings' and i just [covers eight pierceings guiltily]
[3:31 PM] littleskywatcher: it's bright pink
[3:32 PM] imsignificant: ahhhh i want tattoos so bad
[3:32 PM] imsignificant: why do i want tattoos so bad, i am severely needlephobic
[3:32 PM] peridexis: tbh i don't really blame my parents for a lot of what they say and do because it's easier at this point for
[3:33 PM] peridexis: me to just count my blessings re: their not giving a damn about my gender/sexuality
[3:33 PM] peridexis: like as long as that's a non-issue for them i figure i can suck it up and deal with any other shit i get
*Type /help for a list of commands.*
[3:33 PM] nyquildriver: ugh parental judgment
[3:34 PM] imsignificant: yeah i actually have a really good relationship with my parents? every once in a while they do a Thing
[3:34 PM] imsignificant: but generally pretty good
[3:35 PM] silentmachina: Ugh I'm terrified of my dad
[3:35 PM] imsignificant: meanwhile i have several friends stuck in abusive households rn
[3:36 PM] peridexis: i used to be absolutely terrified of my parents but lately it's more like -- i just don't interact with them on
[3:36 PM] imsignificant: and i want to just, all the of age ones i want to get an appartment with, and then adopt the young ones
[3:36 PM] peridexis: more than a superficial level
[3:36 PM] silentmachina: And I kinda wanna come out to my mom but I think it'd be a minefield trying to get the concepts across
[3:36 PM] peridexis: i want to move out and live with everyone else who wishes they could get out.
[3:36 PM] silentmachina: PLEASE
[3:37 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: We really need to just find a geographically convenient spot and buy up a small apartment building, only rental requirements being "Must Like Young Wizards"
[3:37 PM] peridexis: Like in all seriousness if any of y'all still want a roommate in ~8 to 10 months
[3:37 PM] peridexis: i'm here
[3:37 PM] peridexis: i'm gonna make it happen
[3:38 PM] imsignificant: seriously once im out of school, i really do legit want to live with as many of you as possible
[3:38 PM] peridexis: i'm probably going to try and figure out if there's a way for me to get emancipated first?
[3:38 PM] silentmachina: Same
[3:38 PM] peridexis: because i won't be 18 for another year and a half
[3:38 PM] imsignificant: devie gets first priority b/c she needs to get out of there
[3:38 PM] nyquildriver: aww, I totally support an astafrith commune
[3:38 PM] silentmachina: I would love to move in with a bunch of y'all after I graduate
[3:38 PM] imsignificant: like really, whenever i talk about a YW commune i am 100% serious
[3:39 PM] silentmachina: I'm totally behind it
[3:39 PM] peridexis: same
[3:39 PM] peridexis: i just. i'm angry because i decided to finish up high school at a regular school.
[3:40 PM] peridexis: realllllly bad decision, all the regret
[3:40 PM] imsignificant: oof
[3:40 PM] peridexis: i could be working full-time now if i hadn't decided that
[3:40 PM] imsignificant: ugh, WORK
[3:40 PM] imsignificant: what am i gonna do
[3:40 PM] imsignificant: about that
[3:40 PM] littleskywatcher: i'm out of school in june and have NO IDEA what/where my life is doing after that
[3:41 PM] imsignificant: im way to disabled for most jobs
[3:41 PM] peridexis: and i finally ended up quitting my part-time job because it was too much on top of school
[3:41 PM] imsignificant: too
[3:41 PM] littleskywatcher: but i will hit people up once i know what that is/if i'll be near anyone and it'd work
[3:41 PM] silentmachina: I just wanna run a kickstarter and make something for myself, I hate the idea of working for industry
[3:41 PM] littleskywatcher: but i will hit people up once i know what that is/if i'll be near anyone and it'd work
[3:41 PM] silentmachina: I just wanna run a kickstarter and make something for myself, I hate the idea of working for industry
[3:41 PM] imsignificant: i cant do like any traditional retail b/c i cant be on my feet
[3:41 PM] peridexis: @silentmachina i feel the same but it's super not an option for me if i want to get out soon :/
[3:42 PM] peridexis: it would take too long and cost too much initial money and really i am fine with getting a
[3:42 PM] imsignificant: same with working at a restaurant if i was willing to even do that which im not
[3:42 PM] peridexis: shitty full time job if it means i can get out of here
[3:42 PM] silentmachina: Yeah
[3:42 PM] imsignificant: i intend to take full advantage of my parents money to keep myself out of tip-based work
[3:43 PM] peridexis: @imsignificant Would you be able to do like, secretarial work?
[3:43 PM] imsignificant: like i am REALLY lucky in that my parents have enough money to support me
[3:43 PM] kenporusty: dai again
[3:43 PM] imsignificant: hmmm yeah i could
[3:43 PM] peridexis: @kenporusty dai!!
[3:43 PM] silentmachina: I just wanna get an engineering job until I'm on my feet
[3:43 PM] imaginariumgeographica: Do any of you have the ability to get a lifeguarding/swim instructor's certification?
[3:43 PM] imsignificant: i could do any desk job that wasnt solely phone stuff
[3:43 PM] imsignificant: i can even do phone stuff when its answering and not calling
[3:43 PM] peridexis: @imaginariumgeographica I might, though i'm prob not qualified at the moment
[3:43 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I doing okay at the moment in regards to living situations and all but I'm also really not sure if I want to stay at the university that I'm at because I don't know what major I want to do
[3:44 PM] imaginariumgeographica: It's a farily decent starting salary and for me at least it is so much less stressful than all the other jobs i've ever had
[3:44 PM] imsignificant: hmm that would be a thing too, woulnt it
[3:44 PM] kenporusty: (I would kill for a desk job or something that wasn't retail)
[3:44 PM] silentmachina: I can't handle food service anymore
[3:44 PM] imsignificant: im even a good swimmer :P
[3:44 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: So that means thinking about moving out which is terrifying on both the economic and the executive functioning fronts
[3:44 PM] imaginariumgeographica: also often there are places offering free/ reduced cost courses if you look around a bit
[3:44 PM] peridexis: I initially quit my job because it was too much stress with school but now i'm ~pining after a job again
[3:44 PM] peridexis: i hate being unemployed
[3:44 PM] peridexis: so I'm probably going to apply to be a scorekeeper at the sharks ice rink or something
[3:44 PM] imsignificant: see this is why we all need to live together, we can help with the functioning
[3:44 PM] peridexis: I feel like i'd enjoy that at least?
[3:45 PM] imsignificant: the other thing i would like to do would be work at an animal shelter, even though that would require more walking and lifting
[3:45 PM] kenporusty: @peridexis that sounds like it'd be fun
[3:45 PM] imsignificant: it makes me upset that most shelters require you to be able to lift like 50 lbs
[3:45 PM] nyquildriver: oooh at the shark tank?
[3:45 PM] nyquildriver: exciting!
[3:46 PM] imsignificant: like i understand, but i really want to work with the animals!
[3:46 PM] iridescentoracle: i really wish living with a bunch of y'all seemed like a likely/feasible plan, but my hope is i'll be able to get a job at some tech company right out of college
[3:46 PM] iridescentoracle: and so who even knows where i'll end up living...
[3:46 PM] peridexis: @kenporusty yeahhh i mean if i can't PLAY hockey i can at least get paid to be a scorekeeper right? :D
[3:46 PM] nyquildriver: **used to live in sunnyvale**
[3:46 PM] kenporusty: @peridexis sounds like a plan
[3:46 PM] iridescentoracle: also hello hello i am back
[3:47 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Daii
[3:47 PM] kenporusty: take it from a nearly 30 yr old...there is no such thing as a "grown up" job and even though you're employed, keep your ears sharp, you never know what will drift across you
[3:47 PM] peridexis: @nyquildrive i'd LOVE to work at the shark tank, but sharks ice in downtown san jose is prob more feasible for me
[3:47 PM] kenporusty: daiiiii
[3:48 PM] nyquildriver: @iridescentoracle: dai! I submitted a chat transcript, hope you got it okay **doesn't quite trust tumblr**
[3:48 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Yeah I have an okay job for now (at my university movie theatre) but it's not a lot of hours really so that is not so great
[3:48 PM] kenporusty: (people keep telling me to get a "grown up job" uh hello, I dropped out of college, I can't get crap
[3:48 PM] littleskywatcher: i'm grading papers for an intro class this quarter
[3:48 PM] peridexis: i doooon't trust people who insist that success = having a Grown Up Job
[3:48 PM] peridexis: bc that is /not/ feasible for everyone
[3:49 PM] littleskywatcher: i might follow the prof and do her two other classes this year, too
[3:49 PM] kenporusty: wheeee sounds fun sky!
[3:49 PM] peridexis: @sky nice!
[3:49 PM] nyquildriver: @peridexis: ahh I see, I hope if you apply that you get it, that still sounds awesome :D
[3:49 PM] peridexis: (thanks! crossing my fingers.)
[3:49 PM] littleskywatcher: [laughs] it's okay. remind me to show you the stack of midterms i got yesterday. :P
[3:49 PM] kenporusty: my roommates think "grown up job" is desk job, pref w/ the government lmao
[3:49 PM] kenporusty: but that's because they work for them
[3:49 PM] littleskywatcher: ????
[3:49 PM] peridexis: (actually, my guitar teacher used to be the organist for the san jose sharks! I WILL FOREVER BE JEALOUS.)
[3:49 PM] iridescentoracle: @nyquildriver yes i got it!
[3:50 PM] iridescentoracle: fiddling with the formatting now bc we're in different time zones
[3:50 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: The standards for 'grown up job' are so ridiculously arbitrary anyway
[3:50 PM] nyquildriver: ohh forgot about that, sorry
[3:50 PM] iridescentoracle: nah it's fine!
[3:50 PM] nyquildriver: feel like I should've thought about that
[3:50 PM] iridescentoracle: i have to do that pretty much every time bc i'm usually a little late to the chat
[3:51 PM] iridescentoracle: and find-and-replace means it takes like two seconds
[3:51 PM] imaginariumgeographica: Wow so I have said very little and now I must leave to go eat food with my friend and a ton of people I don't know
[3:51 PM] nyquildriver: :)
[3:51 PM] peridexis: dai!
[3:51 PM] imaginariumgeographica: *quakes*
[3:51 PM] imaginariumgeographica: anyway, dai cousins!
[3:51 PM] peridexis: good luck
[3:51 PM] nyquildriver: aw! dai! **optional hugs** take care!!
[3:51 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Dai!
[3:52 PM] imaginariumgeographica: Thankee :)
[3:52 PM] nyquildriver: homg this pumpkin butter is turning out amazingly
[3:52 PM] nyquildriver: it smells and tastes like pure autumn
[3:53 PM] nyquildriver: somehow
[3:54 PM] silentmachina: *tries to write email asking professor from senior design about maybe assisting in his lab*
[3:54 PM] silentmachina: *curls up in ball*
[3:54 PM] imsignificant: ugh emails
[3:54 PM] imsignificant: communicating
[3:54 PM] imsignificant: UGH
[3:54 PM] kenporusty: yum pumpkin butter and bleh emails
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: ...test....
[3:56 PM] peridexis: okay, i'm going to drag myself away from the chat and go work on my Secret Santa letter for the fic exchange i signed up for!
[3:56 PM] peridexis: dai, friends
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: okay, I killed the chat, not my internet acting up XD
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: daiiiii!
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: sounds exciting!
[3:57 PM] imsignificant: dai
[3:56 PM] peridexis: okay, i'm going to drag myself away from the chat and go work on my Secret Santa letter for the fic exchange i signed up for!
[3:56 PM] peridexis: dai, friends
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: okay, I killed the chat, not my internet acting up XD
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: daiiiii!
[3:56 PM] kenporusty: sounds exciting!
[3:57 PM] imsignificant: dai
[3:57 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: dai!
[3:57 PM] iridescentoracle: dai!
[3:57 PM] silentmachina: I should really be working on that animation rig I have due monday
[3:58 PM] nyquildriver: dai--whoops
[3:59 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Dai
[3:59 PM] kenporusty: I should....not be tempted to go get another reeses
[3:59 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: man I want a reeses
[4:00 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: but I'm sure we'll have no shortage of the in about a week
[4:00 PM] kenporusty: *shares all the reese's*
[4:00 PM] kenporusty: the three of us promised we wouldn't touch the candy, it's for trick or treaters
[4:00 PM] kenporusty: we all cracked at the same time
[4:00 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: although actually I shouldn't count on that given the outrageous volume of trick-or-treaters we're expecting
[4:00 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: we haven't bought our candy yet
[4:00 PM] kenporusty: three people with epic sweet tooths all in one house. not good
[4:01 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oooh reeses
[4:01 PM] littleskywatcher: my computer died, oops. what'd i miss?
[4:01 PM] kenporusty: wb sky!
[4:01 PM] kenporusty: we need to get more, though they don't know what to expect in this neighborhood
[4:01 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: gotta get on that
[4:01 PM] silentmachina: **tries to massage own back**
[4:01 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i just moved from a house on a high hill with no sidewalks
[4:02 PM] kenporusty: their old neighbors had candy for the kids and beers, burgers, and hot dogs for adults
[4:02 PM] kenporusty: (meat for kids too)
[4:02 PM] silentmachina: That sounds like a cool place for a house
[4:02 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: it was nice
[4:02 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: quiet
[4:02 PM] kenporusty: sounds nice
[4:02 PM] littleskywatcher: too many college students/not right place in town for trick-or-treaters where i am
[4:02 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: but the new house is *directly across the street from an elementary school*
[4:02 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: so
[4:03 PM] imsignificant: at my college they have a trick-or-treat event for little kids at the dorms its cute
[4:03 PM] littleskywatcher: wow! hella trick-or-treaters headed your way, sounds like.
[4:03 PM] kenporusty: people in this area hire buses to take kids around to other neighborhoods since it's a lot of little developments and HUGE MAJOR HIGHWAYS
[4:03 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: we're expecting to get swarmed
[4:03 PM] kenporusty: we had that at our school too!
[4:03 PM] imsignificant: you sign up and they give the kids' parents a list of rooms to go to ^.^
[4:03 PM] kenporusty: my target is doing trick or treat in the store
[4:03 PM] kenporusty: team members are dressing up and handing out candy and doing temp tattoos and stuff
[4:04 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: I guess that's safer?
[4:04 PM] littleskywatcher: all the stores downtown are having a trick-or-treat for the kids friday afternoon
[4:04 PM] kenporusty: yay!
[4:05 PM] littleskywatcher: i went last year just for kicks, it was super-fun! v much a festival vibe. they close down the main street and costumed people are EVERYWHERE.
[4:05 PM] calinaestel: ohey, people
[4:05 PM] kenporusty: that sounds super cool!
[4:05 PM] kenporusty: daiii!
[4:05 PM] nyquildriver: aw, halloween isn't so much a thing here, and now that I live in a building of flats I get 0 trick-or-treaters instead of like, two
[4:05 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: We usually give bags of microwave popcorn to trick or treaters
[4:05 PM] calinaestel: dai :D
[4:06 PM] imsignificant: calinaaaaaaaa!
[4:06 PM] nyquildriver: one year a couple of kids came on the wrong DAY, lol
[4:06 PM] nyquildriver: oh, dai! :D
[4:06 PM] kenporusty: there was one house growing up that gave out sodas
[4:06 PM] calinaestel: hehehe, hi ana
[4:06 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Kids usually get excited because it's not just more of the same candy so that's fun
[4:06 PM] kenporusty: that was the coool house
[4:06 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh hey dai!
[4:06 PM] kenporusty: that's pretty awesome
[4:08 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: hi calina!
[4:09 PM] silentmachina: I'm too shut-in for halloween
[4:09 PM] littleskywatcher: once in high school a v drunk man gave us snickers ice cream. his friend came out of the house as we were leaving and reamed him a new one lol.
[4:09 PM] kenporusty: lol!
[4:09 PM] silentmachina: hehe

[4:18 PM] peridexis: i am back because i cannooooot figure out what to write for my secret santa letter D:
[4:18 PM] kenporusty: wb!
[4:18 PM] kenporusty: oh no!
[4:19 PM] peridexis: (also i am typing onehanded bc my dog is restig his head on my other hand and it isTOO cute)
[4:19 PM] calinaestel: awwww
[4:19 PM] kenporusty: awwww
[4:19 PM] nyquildriver: eeee <3
[4:20 PM] peridexis: oh no now he's jumped off to go growl at a squirrel
[4:20 PM] peridexis: somehow he can sense them in the backyard even when he's in a totally different room
[4:20 PM] kenporusty: dog sense
[4:20 PM] kenporusty: gotta love it
[4:21 PM] peridexis: but yes... i'm trapped between coming up with a letter to go with my fic prompt and trying to prevent further hockey spiraling...
[4:21 PM] littleskywatcher: [snickers]
[4:22 PM] peridexis: it is SO AWFUL
[4:22 PM] peridexis: yet so wonderful
[4:23 PM] peridexis: (also: i still live in the san jose area, so there are buses with ads and banners everywhere advertising the san jose sharks, and whenever i see an ad with tomas hertl's face on it i make UNDIGNIFIED GLEEFUL SOUNDS into my hands)
[4:23 PM] peridexis: (he's my fav. my family loooooves making fun of me.)
[4:26 PM] nyquildriver: oooh goodness yes, I want to pinch his adorable cheeks whenever I see a picture xD
[4:26 PM] littleskywatcher: ehehehehe i see those ads and smile to myself
[4:26 PM] littleskywatcher: what a cutie
[4:26 PM] nyquildriver: (I may have moved eight time zones and a continent away, but my facebook feed is full of sharks fans, so I still see a lot of them xD)
[4:27 PM] peridexis: there's this one picture of him GLOMPING joe thornton on the ice that just makes me grin so hard
[4:27 PM] enterprisinggentleman: People still around, I see?
[4:27 PM] peridexis: http://futurehockeytag.tumblr.com/post/100652931611/couturefersure-reasons-to-live-this-picture ridiculous babies
[4:27 PM] peridexis: @enterprisinggentleman yup!
[4:27 PM] enterprisinggentleman: *waves at everyone then*
[4:27 PM] nyquildriver: hiyaaaaa! :D
[4:28 PM] littleskywatcher: daiii
[4:28 PM] kenporusty: daiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
[4:28 PM] nyquildriver: omg that picture is too cute for words
[4:28 PM] peridexis: @nyquildriver I KNOW like damn that boy got some AIR on that one
[4:28 PM] littleskywatcher: ((((:
[4:29 PM] enterprisinggentleman: So how is everyone?
[4:29 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Dai!
[4:29 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh, we're the same colour
[4:30 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I should've known it'd be someone
[4:30 PM] enterprisinggentleman: one sec
[4:30 PM] enterprisinggentleman: How's this? Anyone?
[4:30 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Sorry--this?
[4:31 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I think that's good, yeah
[4:31 PM] enterprisinggentleman: Splendid!
[4:31 PM] littleskywatcher: i have acquired cheesy rice. even though i'm deliberately procrastinating now, life has improved with food.
[4:31 PM] littleskywatcher: :P
[4:32 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'm kinda sorta doing productive thigns
[4:32 PM] enterprisinggentleman: it'd be a light homework weekend if not for a sixty-page philosophy reading
[4:32 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and it's attempting to disprove the existence of time, so it's not gonna be light reading, either
[4:32 PM] kenporusty: cheesy rice!
[4:32 PM] peridexis: @littleskywatcher My friend introduced me to cheesy rice a while back and my family was HORRIFIED, it was hilarious
[4:33 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Cheesy rice?
[4:33 PM] nyquildriver: xD nothing can make my mom shudder more than rice + dairy
[4:33 PM] kenporusty: yiiiikes mycroft
[4:33 PM] enterprisinggentleman: par for the course for this class, really
[4:34 PM] enterprisinggentleman: But I'm doing well, otherwise!
[4:34 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I have a model Starship Enterprise now and tonight is going to be full of pizza and Doctor WHo
[4:34 PM] kenporusty: sounds like a good night
[4:34 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (and tonight's Doctor Who episode looks /significantly/ promising)
[4:34 PM] kenporusty: haven't seen any of the new who. I'll binge this series eventually
[4:34 PM] enterprisinggentleman: And next week I get to go see a play my friend wrote, and submit two of my own plays to a theatre festival!
[4:34 PM] littleskywatcher: @bobo ehehehehe cheesy broccoli rice was /such a treat/ when my sibs and i were litter
[4:35 PM] kenporusty: like I binged Korra in 3 days
[4:35 PM] littleskywatcher: :D
[4:35 PM] peridexis: @kenporusty I'VE BEEN MEANING TO
[4:35 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and also the creator of Ms. Marvel is doing a Skype talk with the women's-and-gender-studies center on Halloween!
[4:35 PM] peridexis: watch korra i mean
[4:35 PM] kenporusty: it's good. it's DARK
[4:35 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I finally started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender this summer
[4:36 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I'm so long overdue
[4:36 PM] peridexis: atla is SO GOOD.
[4:36 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ISN'T IT THOUGH
[4:36 PM] kenporusty: askhdflhe yes
[4:36 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I've only gotten through s1 but IT WAS ALL MAGNIFICENT
[4:36 PM] peridexis: i watched s1 of korra and was disappointed, but i've heard from pretty much everyone that it's gotten much much better.
[4:36 PM] enterprisinggentleman: ("The Fortuneteller" notwithstanding)
[4:36 PM] kenporusty: it gets a lot better, imo
[4:36 PM] enterprisinggentleman: and yeah, that's what i've heard about Korra too
[4:37 PM] kenporusty: struggle through the first few eps, and it hits its stride
[4:37 PM] kenporusty: and calls back to atla a lot
[4:37 PM] nyquildriver: oooh atla is something I've been meaning to see
[4:37 PM] kenporusty: (and Amon is Steve Blum...so I can't help but think of Spike Spiegel)
[4:38 PM] peridexis: ...oh my god
[4:38 PM] peridexis: well there's a thought
[4:38 PM] enterprisinggentleman: oh my god, he's GRUNT?
[4:38 PM] enterprisinggentleman: (sorry, incurable Mass Effedct fan)
[4:38 PM] kenporusty: Steve Blum = sweetie
[4:38 PM] littleskywatcher: [digs out GR finally] ok, i'm lurking~
[4:39 PM] enterprisinggentleman: For anyone who doesn't care about Mass Effect spoilers
[4:39 PM] enterprisinggentleman: this is Steve Blum's character at his best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDmSY_58b00
[4:40 PM] enterprisinggentleman: I can't believe he's the voice of Amon this is incredible
[4:40 PM] calinaestel: i can confirm korra gets better past season 1
[4:40 PM] calinaestel: (/late)
[4:40 PM] iridescentoracle: (hey, Korra-quality comment -- i'd say it starts okay, gets meh around halfway through s1, s2 was a mess, but s3 was fantastic and s4 is great so far)
[4:42 PM] peridexis: yeah. i stopped watching because it was kind of a painful mess but i've been hearing SUCH good things
[4:42 PM] kenporusty: I just kinda grit my teeth and go through it
[4:43 PM] iridescentoracle: i didn't even watch past the opening two-parter of s2 bc i was just so done with it
[4:43 PM] iridescentoracle: my sisters watched the whole thing, though, and gave me the rundown on what i missed over the summer
[4:43 PM] iridescentoracle: and yeah i do not regret not keeping up with s2
[4:43 PM] kenporusty: season 2 was odd but i liked the back story they established
YWchat -- part 2 -- 10/25/14
[1:59 PM] imsignificant: that is not the newss
[2:00 PM] silentmachina: *giggle*
[2:00 PM] imsignificant: so my accesibility person went and talked to the parking office for me
[2:00 PM] imsignificant: (the lady there is really scary and i cant talk to her, i go nonverbal)
[2:01 PM] imsignificant: and basically, im going to get my doctor to fill out the stuff for me to get a handicapped parking placard
[2:01 PM] playthesims: nice!
[2:01 PM] imsignificant: and then with that and the stuff on file at accesibility services
[2:01 PM] nyquildriver: awesome :D
[2:01 PM] silentmachina: =D
[2:01 PM] imsignificant: i can get a parking pass that lets me park my car by my dorm!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[2:01 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh hey, that's really awesome!
[2:02 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: hooray!
[2:02 PM] kenporusty: heck yes! :D
[2:02 PM] imsignificant: b/c right now the parking pass i have is just because i live far away so its called a 'storage' pass
[2:02 PM] silentmachina: oof
[2:02 PM] imsignificant: and my car is in a lot about a 10-15 min walk away
[2:02 PM] imsignificant: and there is no sidewalk to it
[2:02 PM] imsignificant: just a grassy steep hill
[2:02 PM] silentmachina: whaaaaa that's bigger than my entire campus
[2:03 PM] kenporusty: yikes. that sounds like if you parked across my old campus
[2:03 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: :(
[2:03 PM] imsignificant: my entire campus is also like 10 min across, but the walk is long b/c no sidewalk
[2:03 PM] imsignificant: have to pick/slide my way down a hill that turns into a mudslide with any rain
[2:03 PM] imsignificant: and will be sheet ice by winter
[2:04 PM] silentmachina: bleh
[2:04 PM] kenporusty: the shortest route across my school used to be the "goat path" that went down a hill. otherwise you climb the steepest hill by the football stadium
[2:04 PM] imsignificant: so like, not good for disabled childe
[2:04 PM] kenporusty: bleh that stinks
[2:04 PM] kenporusty: I'm sorry D:
[2:04 PM] imsignificant: but!
[2:04 PM] littleskywatcher: but hooray for parking placard!
[2:04 PM] imsignificant: with new parking pass i can park right outside the entrance to my dorm!
[2:04 PM] littleskywatcher: :D
[2:04 PM] imsignificant: and not even have to take up one of the 2 handicapped spaces in that lot
[2:05 PM] kenporusty: heck yes!
[2:05 PM] nyquildriver: yikes, even better that you'll get that pass
[2:05 PM] kenporusty: that's fantastic!
[2:05 PM] imsignificant: b/c they will give me a new sticker that lets me park in all the "faculty only" lots
[2:05 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Ooooohh
[2:05 PM] kenporusty: whoop!
[2:06 PM] imsignificant: so then i dont have to deny other people the use of those reserved spaces just to not get a ticket
[2:06 PM] imsignificant: im so excited
[2:06 PM] littleskywatcher: (: (:
[2:06 PM] imsignificant: this wont be for another month or so b/c i have to go home to my doctor over thanksgiving
[2:06 PM] imsignificant: but boy does it make the prospect of winter so much less scary
[2:07 PM] nyquildriver: **makes a round of celebratory tea for everyone**
[2:07 PM] playthesims: I'll bring the biscuits
[2:08 PM] silentmachina: **quip about gravy**
[2:08 PM] nyquildriver: **snerk**
[2:08 PM] playthesims: *legally required eye-roll*
[2:08 PM] nyquildriver: okay you know, since moving to the UK I've kind of experienced the same thing Nita did in Ireland
[2:08 PM] nyquildriver: I've always liked green tea, but since moving here I have had more black tea in these five years than I have for the entire rest of my life combined
[2:09 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: tea everywhere!
[2:09 PM] imsignificant: hehe
[2:09 PM] imsignificant: teaaaa
[2:09 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Tea is excellent.
[2:09 PM] playthesims: I just love all the tea
[2:09 PM] imsignificant: i want tea but that requires washing dishes
[2:09 PM] nyquildriver: because it's true in England as well as Ireland
[2:09 PM] littleskywatcher: [eyes pile in sink] same
[2:10 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: But also terrible because I get free tea during my shifts at my job, so I drink tea in the evenings because it is delicious, but then I can't fall asleep
[2:10 PM] nyquildriver: so much tea. you will always be given tea. there are households where each person goes through like 6-8 cups a day
[2:11 PM] playthesims: I was trying to find the Garfield comic where he has tea by drinking water and then putting a tea bag in his mouth
[2:11 PM] playthesims: but I can't find it, so never mind
[2:11 PM] imsignificant: hahaha
[2:11 PM] imsignificant: me tho
[2:12 PM] playthesims: Yeah! I was going to be all, "You don't need dishes!"
[2:13 PM] kenporusty: Annie's right, the tea cups breed
[2:13 PM] imsignificant: my executive function is bad already but rn is just
[2:13 PM] kenporusty: I think I would fit in with all that tea drinking
[2:13 PM] kenporusty: minus the milk
[2:13 PM] imsignificant: i have been meaning to get up and get a workbook i need to do for... 2 hours?
[2:13 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i keep the same cup for a while and drink multiple tea bags worth of tea from it
[2:13 PM] imsignificant: huh
[2:14 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: as long as I'm the only one using it I don't think it's a problem hygenically?
[2:14 PM] imsignificant: see i drink a fair amount of tea with milk? so
[2:14 PM] imsignificant: idk i feel gross about it
[2:14 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i don't put milk in mine
[2:14 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I always ridiculously oversteep my tea
[2:14 PM] imsignificant: im really weird about food
[2:14 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: But then compensate with large quantities of milk and sweetener
[2:15 PM] imsignificant: like, i have literally dropped a sandwich on a workshop floor, picked it up,
[2:15 PM] imsignificant: PICKED SAWDUST OFF IT, and eaten it
[2:15 PM] playthesims: I will go months without cleaning a teapot/cup, unless it's visibly dirty. But I rarely have milk in my tea, so. Pshhh, totally not dirty.
[2:15 PM] imsignificant: but no i cant use the same spoon twice without washing it in water so hot i burn myself
[2:15 PM] silentmachina: I typically just like
[2:15 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: ow
[2:15 PM] silentmachina: hand wash my mug
[2:16 PM] imsignificant: not having a dishwasher is really hard
[2:16 PM] kenporusty: the mugs go several days before washing, and the tea bag never leaves the cup
[2:16 PM] imsignificant: washind dishes is a bad sensory experience for me tbh
[2:16 PM] kenporusty: until the tea is done
[2:16 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: do you have or can you get some rubber gloves?
[2:16 PM] imsignificant: rubber gloves are also bad sensory :(
[2:16 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: :(
[2:17 PM] imsignificant: worse than just the drying from the soap and hot water
[2:17 PM] silentmachina: I bet it's an executive nightmare too
[2:17 PM] imsignificant: also im so uncoordinated and slow
[2:17 PM] imsignificant: yeah washing dishes just sucks all around
[2:17 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Have you tried vinyl gloves? They don't have the same lining as latex ones and feel kinda different? I dunno
[2:17 PM] imsignificant: at least there is a utility room in this dorm, with a big sink
[2:18 PM] imsignificant: i dont have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink anymore
[2:18 PM] imsignificant: eh gloves in general are an issue, i think
[2:18 PM] imsignificant: i dont like things touching my hands
[2:18 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Fair enough! Sensory issues are bleh
[2:18 PM] imsignificant: like, i freeze my fingers in winter all the time b/c i dont wear winter gloves either
[2:18 PM] nyquildriver: black tea is a bit tannic for me to have without milk
[2:19 PM] imsignificant: lol scraping the ice off my windshield without gloves on
[2:19 PM] imsignificant: sooooo NT
[2:19 PM] nyquildriver: oolings I will steep over and over again though, until they are dead
[2:19 PM] nyquildriver: *oolongs
[2:19 PM] imsignificant: oolings!
[2:19 PM] imsignificant: sounds like a cute alien
[2:19 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: That was my thought, too
[2:19 PM] nyquildriver: hee
[2:20 PM] nyquildriver: **pureeing baked pumpkin now**
[2:20 PM] imsignificant: http://im-significant.tumblr.com/post/93099139457/
[2:20 PM] imsignificant: remember this?
[2:20 PM] nyquildriver: ...hm I have forgotten how much less sweet they are compared to butternut squash
[2:20 PM] imsignificant: you know what's good? acorn squash
[2:21 PM] nyquildriver: tonight's entire experience is telling me that for cooking, butternut squash is better than regular pumpkins in every way
[2:21 PM] nyquildriver: mmmm acorn squash... difficult to find in this silly country, sadly
[2:21 PM] silentmachina: (Somehow my train of thought went off the rails and landed at tomatoes)
[2:21 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Butternut squash is definitely best
[2:22 PM] kenporusty: (strex tea omg)
[2:22 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Ewww tomatoes. I only tolerate sundried tomatoes, and a tiny bit on pizzas.
[2:22 PM] imsignificant: where are you nyquil?
[2:23 PM] nyquildriver: southern england, very close to London :)
[2:23 PM] imsignificant: what is this desolate place with a lack of acorn squash
[2:23 PM] imsignificant: :P
[2:23 PM] imsignificant: ah
[2:23 PM] nyquildriver: I could probably find it if I looked hard enough, but it would require paying through the nose for it, sigh
[2:23 PM] nyquildriver: same with kabocha, aaaah kabocha <3
[2:24 PM] imsignificant: hallloooo bobo
[2:24 PM] peridexis: hello!
[2:24 PM] silentmachina: Tomatoes are not a thing I can deal with unless they are cooked, thoroughly seasoned ,and combined with other things
[2:24 PM] nyquildriver: dai!
[2:24 PM] silentmachina: *can't
[2:24 PM] imsignificant: i cannot resist callig you bobo sorry
[2:24 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Dai!
[2:24 PM] silentmachina: Dai!
[2:25 PM] peridexis: @imsignificant haha it's fine :D
[2:25 PM] nyquildriver: if only mamvish were real, I would give her all the tomatoes
[2:25 PM] imsignificant: i am mamvish, give me the tomatos
[2:25 PM] nyquildriver: **hands them over**
[2:25 PM] imsignificant: i love tomatoes give me all of them
[2:25 PM] kenporusty: dai!
[2:25 PM] imsignificant: *noms happily*
[2:26 PM] peridexis: i actually tried eating raw tomatoes with something yesterday for the first time
[2:26 PM] silentmachina: tomatoes are yucky for me, their flavor has no edges
[2:26 PM] peridexis: i've always hated raw tomatoes but i think i'm starting to get the appeal
[2:26 PM] nyquildriver: I'm like dubious and only like them sundried. or cooked down to sauces
[2:26 PM] silentmachina: ^
[2:26 PM] peridexis: i just tend to not like the texture
[2:26 PM] nyquildriver: *shudders* I can't stand the texture of raw ones, with the jelly and the seeds and afkdjsflksdf
[2:26 PM] kenporusty: only tomatoes I like are cherry, don't like sauces or sundried
[2:26 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Yechhh
[2:26 PM] silentmachina: yick yeah
[2:26 PM] silentmachina: just sensory unpleasant
[2:27 PM] nyquildriver: my grandmother tried to make me eat raw ones as a punishment when I was child
[2:27 PM] playthesims: That's funny
[2:27 PM] imsignificant: *slurps tomato seeds* i love that texture
[2:27 PM] nyquildriver: psa: don't do that to your children
[2:27 PM] playthesims: I love raw ones; it's the canned cooked ones I can't stand
[2:27 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: well my connection just went wibbly for no reason
[2:27 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: hello
[2:27 PM] imsignificant: hi
[2:27 PM] nyquildriver: dai :D
[2:27 PM] imsignificant: welcome back, hello newton clone
[2:27 PM] playthesims: Haha, I ate raw ones as a reward as a kid. But yeah, don't punish your kids with things like that?
[2:28 PM] peridexis: hi!
[2:28 PM] silentmachina: I looked up tomato flavor trying to find out what the deal was and everything was "they're better sweeter" or "tend to be too acidic"
[2:28 PM] silentmachina: I was like "HOW could anybody want a tomato to be LESS acidic
[2:28 PM] imsignificant: have you ever tried heirloom tomatoes?
[2:28 PM] silentmachina: No
[2:28 PM] kenporusty: my mom and I used to eat tomato salads...just tomatoes and salt and a bit of tuna
[2:28 PM] imsignificant: b/c most grocery store tomatoes legit have no flavor
[2:29 PM] peridexis: heirlooms are so prettyyyy
[2:29 PM] playthesims: I love tomato slices, sprinkled with salt and maybe some oregano
[2:29 PM] imsignificant: like, they have chemically analyzed them and they do not have much flavor
[2:29 PM] imsignificant: heirlooms are much better
[2:29 PM] kenporusty: bleh oregano
[2:29 PM] playthesims: My mom grew yellow tomatos this year! They were awesome
[2:29 PM] playthesims: tomatoes
[2:29 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: They are really pretty but still gross. But then I'm a really picky eater in a lot of ways
[2:29 PM] kenporusty: mamvish would like my mom's garden. her tomatoes randomly hybridized
[2:29 PM] silentmachina: No but like there is a flavor and it tastes like a watery grave
[2:30 PM] peridexis: ofg
[2:30 PM] peridexis: *omgf
[2:30 PM] peridexis: *omfg I CANNOT TYPE
[2:30 PM] kenporusty: pfffft
[2:30 PM] playthesims: xD that's awesome.
[2:30 PM] peridexis: amazing.
[2:30 PM] kenporusty: best descrip ever
[2:30 PM] imsignificant: yeah i mean that is pretty accurate
[2:30 PM] imsignificant: the tomatoes that have been bred for mass production just dont taste good
[2:30 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: high five for sensory issues making for picky eating habits WOO!
[2:30 PM] nyquildriver: **giggling**
[2:31 PM] imsignificant: ok see, mysensory stuff means that in food, im super sensory seeking
[2:31 PM] silentmachina: *high five*
[2:31 PM] imsignificant: i LOVE most foods auties usually hate lol
[2:31 PM] silentmachina: I'm sensory seeking for spicy
[2:31 PM] imsignificant: im sensory seeking for food textures
[2:31 PM] imsignificant: so all the weird things people dont like, give me them
[2:32 PM] kenporusty: I have to go discover if the roommates are doing anything or dinner or go get something for dinner
[2:32 PM] kenporusty: dai!
[2:32 PM] imsignificant: dai
[2:32 PM] silentmachina: dai
[2:32 PM] peridexis: dai friend
[2:32 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: dai!
[2:32 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Dai!
[2:33 PM] silentmachina: my favorite texture is probably like thick bread with seeds in
[2:33 PM] imsignificant: mmmm seeds
[2:33 PM] imsignificant: i love seeds
[2:33 PM] imsignificant: munch munch
[2:33 PM] imsignificant: hate nuts tho
[2:33 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Yeah I have weird food preference too, like I love a bunch of random slightly odd stuff but hate a lot of normal food
[2:33 PM] imsignificant: taste and texture
[2:34 PM] imsignificant: i love: cottage cheese, rice pudding, tapioca pudding
[2:34 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Ohhh ohh but speaking of autism I GOT SOME PAPERWORK FINALLY
[2:34 PM] imsignificant: hate: regular pudding
[2:34 PM] silentmachina: mmmmmmmmmm
[2:34 PM] silentmachina: rice pudding and tapioca are amazing
[2:34 PM] imsignificant: non-lumpy pudding is physically inedible it triggers my gag reflex
[2:34 PM] imsignificant: same with yogurt that doesnt have anything to break up the texture
[2:34 PM] nyquildriver: @dubious: I grinned so much seeing your post! so happy for you!
[2:35 PM] imsignificant: me too i was wiggling around in my seat
[2:35 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: someone gave me flan once and it tasted delicious but I couldn't finish it because it was cold and the texture was wierd
[2:35 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Eeee thanks!
[2:35 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: it made me very sad
[2:35 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: I'm very pleased as well
[2:35 PM] imsignificant: you know what tastes good but i cant eat? cheesecae
[2:35 PM] imsignificant: heesecake
[2:35 PM] imsignificant: ok i gie up
[2:35 PM] silentmachina: aw I love cheesecake
[2:35 PM] silentmachina: it's all crumbly and creamy at the same time
[2:36 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: only people who like it can type its name
[2:36 PM] imaginariumgeographica: Hello friends :D
[2:36 PM] peridexis: helloooo!
[2:36 PM] playthesims: dai!
[2:36 PM] silentmachina: hullooooooo~
[2:36 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Daii!
[2:36 PM] imsignificant: it gives me the same swallowing issue as yogurt and pudding
[2:36 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: hi!
[2:36 PM] nyquildriver: dai! :D
[2:37 PM] imsignificant: i can put it in my mouth and enjoy it but then i try to swallow and i gag
[2:37 PM] imsignificant: god that sounds bad out of context
[2:37 PM] imaginariumgeographica: hehe
[2:37 PM] silentmachina: *giggle*
[2:37 PM] imsignificant: we are talking about food and texture sensitivities
[2:37 PM] imsignificant: fyi
[2:37 PM] nyquildriver: you may enjoy Japanese-style cheesecake more
[2:37 PM] imaginariumgeographica: Gotcha
[2:37 PM] imsignificant: ew ugh i gave myself a bad synesthesia feeling
[2:37 PM] peridexis: i hate things that are cold and mushy at the same time
[2:38 PM] nyquildriver: it's lighter and crumbly and more bread/cakey
[2:38 PM] imsignificant: mmmm that sounds good
[2:38 PM] imsignificant: i will have to try it this january
[2:38 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: the idea of cheesecake is somewhat uncongenial to me
[2:38 PM] peridexis: like i love the taste of hummus but have an incredibly hard time eating it with anything
[2:38 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: "sweet" and "cheese" don't go together
[2:38 PM] imsignificant: it's like, cream cheese tho
[2:38 PM] imsignificant: not 'real' cheese
[2:38 PM] peridexis: yeah it doesn't even taste like cheese?
[2:38 PM] imsignificant: is how i think of it
[2:39 PM] peridexis: i mean. i'm sure there are cheesecakes out there that actually have cheese in them
[2:39 PM] imsignificant: like, there are salty cheese dairy products
[2:39 PM] imsignificant: and other cheese dairy prudects
[2:39 PM] playthesims: Is cream cheese considered a real cheese?
[2:39 PM] playthesims: Or is it like "American Cheese Product"
[2:39 PM] imsignificant: cottage cheese, cream cheese, and some of those sweet soft cheeses that they put in sweet crepes
[2:39 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: he U.S. Department of Agriculture defines the dairy product as containing at least 33% milk fat (as marketed) with a moisture content of not more than 55%, and a pH range of 4.4 to 4.9.[citation needed][verification needed] In other countries, it is defined differently and may need a considerably higher fat content.[4]
[2:39 PM] peridexis: i think it is cheese, but it's not "matured" and thus not cheesy tasting
[2:39 PM] imsignificant: are not 'real cheese' to me, they have a different mental category
[2:40 PM] playthesims: Hmm
[2:40 PM] playthesims: What about Ricotta?
[2:40 PM] playthesims: Do you like Ricotta?
[2:40 PM] imsignificant: yessssss
[2:40 PM] playthesims: yay
[2:40 PM] imsignificant: its... in between
[2:40 PM] nyquildriver: mmm ricotta <3
[2:40 PM] imsignificant: b/c you can put it on sweet or salty things and it ges
[2:40 PM] imsignificant: goes
[2:40 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i usually don't like soft cheeses
[2:40 PM] silentmachina: This one chain of taco places puts feta on their tacos it's so good
[2:41 PM] nyquildriver: I like making gnocchi with ricotta, it's so much easier than regular gnocchi
[2:41 PM] imaginariumgeographica: omigosh feta omnom
[2:41 PM] imsignificant: i love literally all cheese except the 'moldy' kinds
[2:41 PM] imsignificant: cant do blue cheese or gorgonzola or any ot those
[2:41 PM] imaginariumgeographica: ^me too
[2:41 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: bleu cheese dear powers
[2:41 PM] playthesims: How do you make gnocchi with ricotta? I have never done this
[2:41 PM] peridexis: same oh god
[2:41 PM] imsignificant: for both taste, texture, and psychological reasons
[2:41 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: i used to like that stuff when i was little
[2:41 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: I can't imagine eating it now
[2:41 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: bleu/blue idk
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: i do like super creamy blue cheese dressing, they have a good one at the college caf
[2:42 PM] peridexis: also: i never really realized how expensive cheese was until recently?
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: but otherwise no
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: ugh @bobo i know it SUCKS
[2:42 PM] peridexis: i was shopping at safeway a while back and i wanted some smoked cheddar
[2:42 PM] peridexis: so i picked up this little small block of it and like
[2:42 PM] peridexis: $8
[2:42 PM] nyquildriver: I use this recipe: http://www.budgetbytes.com/2011/08/easy-ricotta-gnocchi/
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: parmasean costs so much and i just want to eat an entire block of it
[2:42 PM] silentmachina: yike
[2:42 PM] peridexis: for a tiny block that i'd probably finish in a week???
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: also goat cheese
[2:42 PM] imaginariumgeographica: it's ridiculous how expensive cheese is
[2:42 PM] imsignificant: why is goat cheese so expensive it i the BEST cheese
[2:43 PM] peridexis: goat cheese is AMAZEBALLS
[2:43 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: My family has a little tiny smoker so we can buy cheap cheese on sale and make smoked cheese which is nice, but yeah cheese is super pricey and it's annoying
[2:43 PM] nyquildriver: mmmm yes goat cheese <3
[2:43 PM] peridexis: @dubious ooh that's cool
[2:43 PM] playthesims: neat! I thought gnocchi was potato though?
[2:43 PM] imsignificant: those goat cheese logs with blueberries on them, that you put on crackers? *dies of pleasure*
[2:44 PM] playthesims: **has never made gnocchi, but hears about it on Food Network**
[2:44 PM] silentmachina: oh no I want one
[2:44 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: gnocchi is among the most glorious of foodstuffs
[2:44 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: can't say I've ever made my own from scratch though
[2:45 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: gotta try that sometime
[2:45 PM] peridexis: you know what i love?
[2:45 PM] peridexis: those cheddar bread bun thingys
[2:46 PM] peridexis: i don't even know what they're called Officially. but those soft rolls with cheddar in them
[2:46 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Mmmm gnocchi
[2:46 PM] nyquildriver: potato gnocchi's more common, but I think the ricotta version's a regional recipe from... somewhere haha
[2:46 PM] silentmachina: (back on texture, is anybody else weird about soup? I tend to be like no food should be solid)
[2:46 PM] peridexis: like these http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/cheddar-garlic-biscuits2.jpg
[2:46 PM] playthesims: like the cheese biscuits at Red Lobster?
[2:47 PM] playthesims: they sell mixes for those now at wal-mart.
[2:47 PM] peridexis: i've heard them compared to those, so probably! i've never been to red lobster tho
[2:47 PM] playthesims: they're like
[2:47 PM] littleskywatcher: @sm i like stews, or if it's just soup i dip things in it
[2:47 PM] playthesims: warm crumbly cheddary biscuits
[2:47 PM] peridexis: yesssss
[2:47 PM] peridexis: fave
[2:47 PM] nyquildriver: mmmm yessss
[2:47 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: (hm. i like soups and stews, i prefer them thick and unwatery.)
[2:47 PM] imsignificant: ok those are one of the few things i have a texture issue with
[2:47 PM] nyquildriver: this is my go-to recipe when I'm missing the red lobster things: http://www.browneyedbaker.com/red-lobster-cheddar-bay-biscuits-recipe/
[2:47 PM] imsignificant: red lobster biscuits are yucky :P
[2:48 PM] silentmachina: (Yeah, I typically try to drain out the liquid when I eat them usually)
[2:48 PM] imsignificant: i like all soup
[2:48 PM] imsignificant: i usually like it waterier tho
[2:48 PM] playthesims: ugh now I want to cook
[2:48 PM] littleskywatcher: [laughs about hair products] so i tried to touch up my roots with root rescue and instead of blonde they're a really pretty caramel color instead
[2:49 PM] littleskywatcher: which may be fun to have an entire head of, but is not the blonde i was looking to put pink over :P
[2:49 PM] nyquildriver: whoops! o_o
[2:49 PM] peridexis: is there toner you can use to fix it or would you have to bleach?
[2:49 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: someday i want to dye my hair purple
[2:50 PM] peridexis: i want, like, fire engine red, but i'm afraid i'll fry my hair since it's black and super thick
[2:50 PM] peridexis: so bleach would be hard
[2:50 PM] silentmachina: I want to try having color in my hair, but I'd want to grow it out some, and to get what I really want I'd probably have to be out to my hairdresser
[2:51 PM] littleskywatcher: i'd probably have to bleach. [shrugs] oh well! i'll just put the pink over it anyway, and get some bleach after i get a paycheck to actually fix it.
[2:51 PM] nyquildriver: I used to color my hair red (but I didn't bleach so it just ended up being red-toned rather than fire-engine) until my uncle told me that I'm too young to have hair like an auntie
[2:51 PM] nyquildriver: jerk.
[2:51 PM] peridexis: omgggggggg
[2:51 PM] littleskywatcher: i had that red-tone for awhile, too
[2:51 PM] playthesims: my aunti has red-toned hair
[2:51 PM] playthesims: what
[2:52 PM] playthesims: (*auntie)
[2:52 PM] nyquildriver: well, I was 19 at the time haha
[2:52 PM] playthesims: is that just a thing
[2:52 PM] playthesims: that aunts do
[2:52 PM] peridexis: i didn't realize that was a thing
[2:52 PM] nyquildriver: asian aunties, definitely haha
[2:52 PM] silentmachina: (smolders away wishing I could see y'all's gorgeous faces)
[2:52 PM] playthesims: Hmm. My aunt isn't asian, and has followed this trend. Which is fine
[2:53 PM] littleskywatcher: my mom used to get her gray hairs dyed red, when i was little
[2:53 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Oh gosh now I'm thinking about myself as an aunt and that's a terrifying notion
[2:53 PM] peridexis: i'm indian, mostly if older people color their hair it's black
[2:53 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: (i think this thing has a video setting if anyone wants to display their gorgeous face to the assemblage?)
[2:53 PM] peridexis: since 'unnatural' hair color is not as common. but mehndi/henna hair dye is a thing
[2:53 PM] littleskywatcher: [nods]
[2:53 PM] peridexis: so one of my aunts colored her gray hairs reddish-brown
[2:54 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Y'all have seen my face relatively recently with my very silly closet cosplaying
[2:54 PM] peridexis: (WHICH WAS AMAZING)
[2:54 PM] playthesims: I posted a selfie fairly recently, I think
[2:54 PM] littleskywatcher: (IT REALLY WAS)
[2:54 PM] soulsuckingisaacnewton: your closet cosplaying was awesome
[2:54 PM] silentmachina: I have a cold and it probably shows. And my hair is a mess
[2:54 PM] imsignificant: yeah i saw and loved those
[2:54 PM] playthesims: when I dye my hair (sometime before Halloween), I'll take pictures
[2:55 PM] imsignificant: my hair is too long right now and is a nightmare in both sensory and dysphoria senses
[2:55 PM] playthesims: I'm trying the "dye-with-kool-aid" thing, even though I know it probably won't do well xD
[2:55 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Haa, thanks! I still need to do Macchu Picchu, though.
[2:55 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Not sure about that one.
[2:55 PM] silentmachina: I'm gradually getting through to my hairdresser and working toward non-dysphoric hair
[2:55 PM] peridexis: you could ~cheat and try to do the One's Champion
[2:56 PM] peridexis: like when Peach transformed in HW
[2:56 PM] peridexis: @silentmachina good luck!! i know that feel. <3
[2:57 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Hmmmmm both good notions
[2:57 PM] dubiousculturalartifact: Though maybe not the second one,
[2:58 PM] nyquildriver: oh man dubious, your expression killed i
[2:58 PM] nyquildriver: *it, and me
[2:58 PM] nyquildriver: xD
