the crinkle forms across the bridge of jinsang’s nose, turning his head to look away from yein, and scratching at his nape.
he hadn’t been angry, he didn’t think he had, at least. it was her fault, regardless. she was the one who had to do the thing. an indiscriminate smile, the way her whole face lit up when she laughed, and the freckles of colour in her eyes glinted in the light. it was cruel, she had been cruel. jinsang was mentally insisting upon this as he tried to find an answer to her question, kicking at a rock with the toes of his shoes and then lifting his gaze up to look at the sky, then whirling it back down to yein. his knee shaking with the energy that rushed it’s way up through him, pressurised by his lengthy silence.
“–no. why would i be angry? you’re the one who is angry,” he retorts, already furrowing his brow with how bad the lie was. all yein had done was smile, laugh – look cute when jinsang glanced over at her. that wasn’t her crime though. it was that she dared make him smile. koo jinsang. smile. at her. she shouldn’t have done that. “i was just going for a walk, i was going to see if i could find the comet, or alien space craft, that fell from the sky last night. i was concentrating on the trajectory, on where it would land. it takes a lot of thought, you have to consider the angle that it was coming down and the speed, and not just anyone can do that!” jinsang could taste the insistence in his voice, needing her to believe his story; one he was weaving together on the spot. he was avoiding her gaze, once more turning his head and squinting up into the sky, as if he would be able to force himself to remember something he hadn’t seen at all the night before.
sunlight burned his eyes, leaving him blinking as he shifted his weight, shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans and nudged at the rock that he’d be harassing seconds before. “i wasn’t angry. i was focusing. you shouldn’t.. say i’m angry unless you know. i’m never angry,” he peeked over at her, shook his head quickly and looked away. “i wasn’t angry. okay? you believe me, right?”
