THE RED HALL IS ON AO3.
Just when I had forgotten about it…… 🥲
Opinions?
Well certainly there has been Turbulence. I'm hoping to stay out of any possible drama cos I'm a coward like that (also tired and just... yeah). I... appreciate that a fic has been posted on ao3 which makes it easier to find and read it in the future, and I hope more old LJ authors would do that, regardless of the fic.
I think it's a good thing we're finally getting proper tags and warnings on the Red Hall, altho I'd still add some to what it currently has (like "antisemitism" and "sexual violence" come to mind at first. Also "prostitution" and more tags describing the sex that happens, like "rough sex" "toys" "bondage" etc. Also possibly "miscarriage" since that might be triggering for some).
I also hope the author understands that the atmosphere in the fandom is very different these days and while yes, the reader is responsible for reading the fic, it's very much the author's responsibility to tag their fic properly. The reader can only consent to whatever they read if they've been given a sufficient warning beforehand.
Personally I'm not a great fan of the Red Hall in these days. I first read it when I was too young to understand half the things that were going on there, and some bad images from that fic will stay in my head for the rest of my life. I'm not a fan of romanticising rape, or writing about it in a detailed way that is also arousing (dunno if that was the intent behind those scenes but that's the vibe I got, and many others). But at least now people know (somewhat) what they're stumbling into, and that's a good thing.
Another thing, I hope people would refrain from strong emotions when talking about the fic (hate is a really strong word. Jeez guys). The stronger words people use the more backlash it creates from those who like the fic, and we don't want a bloody fandom war over the Red Hall, do we?
i love being uu and all but some of us need to stop acting like we’re better than other religions. my minister was making fun of the blessing of the animals because “we arent a faith that needs to protect everything from eternal damnation.” she was so condescending and it was just plain rude. like let people be spiritual????????? isnt that what we’re supposed to be about? unitarian universalism is so unique but sometimes the UUs i know kinda ruin it for me.
so i love frank castle hes good
i think i gotta start makiing pinterest boards for all the working women i admire so that i can pretend im totally invested in my academic career and am NOT disillusioned by just how dull everything feels
