Got a compliment on my bike despite the fact I am running mismatched rims. The SoCal car-show inner me is dying of embarrassment.
Somehow my ride put me on the wrong side of the fencing and I had to backtrack to get out!
Blew out the the spark arrestor screen on the YZ426F. I lost the correct insert to it was pretty hinky - so put FMF Power Core pipe on.
In the spring of 1997, Yamaha developed a 4-stroke motocrosser that overturned the status quo of the two-stroke dominated motocross world.
I was able to get a license plate on a Yamaha YZ426F and it has proven to be a great dual sport for desert riding. Honestly a motocross bike is a bad platform for street-legal; First gear is too tall and 5th gear is too low. I have a WR trans I'll eventually put in when I replace the crank. I call this bike Theseus, because almost every part has been replaced over the years. Eventually I'll have to get something with electric start but for now this is my favorite bike. When I was a kid I always got harassed by the local Sherriff when I rode my dirt bike around the suburbs, so it being a YZ I can ride anywhere is a very me-specific joy. Sometimes you make choices for emotional reasons, not logical ones, and this bike is a good example. You can't do street legal conversions like this in California anymore, so I'll probably never sell my girl. You can bury me with this bike that would be fine.
Spark arrestor screen exploded on the Yz426f. I put an FMF Powere Core on.
Swapped wheels to go back to 14-49 gearing. The 14-51 was great for climbing dry waterfalls in Silverwood but the top speed is too slow.
