The 1990 YZR250 0WB9 paved the way for Yamaha's top notch production street bikes. Featuring a 249cc, liquid-cooled, reed-valve-inducted, power-valve-equipped, single-axis-crankshaft, 90°, two-stroke, V-twin engine, the YZR250 0WB9 completely dominated the 1990 250cc Grand Prix World Championship. The paradigm-shifting machine won ten races in 1990, with American John Kocinski amassing seven victories and Italian Luca Cadalora notching three wins. Kocinski won the World Championship aboard the bike, and cemented his international stardom as a result. The technology perfected for the 0WB9 was fed immediately to Yamaha’s product-development group, and the 1991 TZ250B production road racer and 1991 TZR250R streetbike were the direct result of the 0WB9’s worldwide success.
