honestly i am shocked that zaaronmau is a rarepair and not an extremely popular ship like did we not see them be the most polyamorous trio ever in seasons 1-3!!
in rarepair hell heaven with you rn but for zaaron
clutching onto our rarepairs like theyre prized jewels.. Blazemau got literally NOTHING else out there, and Zaaron is still relatively underground from what ive seen.. not to worry though, our rhetorics are spreading.. ohohohohoo they are spreading C:<<
“This year, to save me from tears / I'll give it to someone special”
I didn’t start this before Christmas, didn’t even have the idea for it yet. Happy New Years, though!
Happy Pride to baby’s first Man x Man who ruined his life
I have stumbled into Zaaron, AKA Zane Ro'Meave/Lord Aaron of Falconclaw.
Hear me out: if Aaron DIDN'T KNOW that it was Zane who gave Jacob the amulet that killed all of Falconclaw, he would still be a guilt-ridden revenger but he'd have no target to turn all that guilt and rage on.
He'd stew in it for months while he buried the dead one by one with no one to blame but himself. He wasn't strong enough or fast enough or smart enough to stop this from happening, he's broken himself down into his simplest components and found himself lacking. What is he supposed to do now? He's a broken thing. He could go to O'khasis. Lily's cousin Ivy is in O'khasis. They'd never spoken much, but she was all the family he had left. He couldn't make himself stay here any longer, where else is he supposed to go?
He goes to O'khasis. Ivy is out on assignment when he shows up at the central cathedral looking for her, but the High Priest is there. Lily speaks - used to speak well of him. If anyone can fix him, it's the High Priest, right?
Zane's the best in the world at putting on a mask, he can see through one easily. Aaron clearly doesn't know it was him who gave Jacob the amulet and he's not about to let him know. He brings Aaron into the fold of the church, the O'khasis guard, Zane's personal service and eventually into the Jury of Nine. He's so sweet, Zane, and it's so easy to fall into service to him, so easy for Aaron to dedicate himself to the duties he's assigned - it's not like he has any more Lordly duties to attend to when he's the only surviving soul fo his village. Zane keeps him close, it would have been better if he'd had the boy to take under his wing but he supposed a man who'd rather do anything than continue thinking of how broken and weak he'd become worked just as well. He couldn't seduce him exactly to keep him complacent, but he could get very close to it.
Aaron's already been on the Jury for a while when Zane sends him on his first bloody mission, an easy one to test the waters. Aaron's shaken when he comes back, but he still follows orders as well as ever and only clings to Zane more when he frets and cradles his face so gently and asks softly if he's alright, so he supposes he'll outgrow the anxiety and guilt of what he's been asked. Aaron, meanwhile, has started putting together the pieces. When he finally learns all he needs to know, he's horribly conflicted - he should kill the man who made him kill his entire village, but this can't possibly be right. It can't possibly be Zane, right?
It only takes overhearing one discussion between Janus and Ivy about Janus's assignments to convince him otherwise. And for his wife's beloved cousin to be in on it? How many others were there who knew? Was Aaron the only Juror who didn't know that Zane wasn't who he thought he was? He'd have to go through all of them to get to Zane, he knows. Even after all this time and dedication to the Jury, he's not strong enough for that.
So he runs. His Juror token is torn out of him and recalled by witchcraft the moment they realize he's really gone. It hurts just as much as Lily and Jacob suddenly dropping dead in the kitchen one sunny afternoon.
By the time they meet again in Phoenix Drop, Aaron's made his decision. He'll kill Zane and avenge Falconclaw, even if he has to die with him to do it.
Love's got nothing to do with their relationship. It's about being so isolated by your station and situation that you'll do anything to not be completely alone, even if that means letting someone control you completely.
