His Secret & Her Desires
Poetry of the day
“It’s painful to talk to him when you know that you have no chance.
It’s painful to notice the subtle flirting on both ends, only to realize that he’ll never look at you the way you look at him, feel the way you feel about him, and like you as much as you like him.
It’s painful to force your excitement for him when he tells you about his new love interests, repeating to yourself that if he’s happy, you’re happy.
It’s painful to feel like you want to let it all go to relieve yourself of the heartache because, at the same time, you also don’t want to lose him completely.
It’s painful to want to talk to him and laugh with him and be with him, because those very things tear your heart apart into little pieces.
Because nothing you can do will ever make him feel the same way about you.”
If feelings could be counted as numbers. Aleanissa would have lost count already, her feelings towards Reylain. A messy mixture of longing, fondness, and fear, but one thing was now clearer than ever.
She had fallen for that man. She had fallen for Reylain Dawnsorrow.
Everything happened so gradually, starting with how he always seems to eat with her. As if he knew that.. she didn’t have anyone else to eat with, and she was lonely, always longing for some kind of company.
He is a sweet man… Alea believes that with all her heart, even if he would never admit to it himself. As he always complained to her about, how he had to help someone when he apparently didn’t want to, and how often girls get themselves into tricky, dangerous situations for no good valid reasons.
“Rey…you are like a knight in shining armor!”
“What! No! I only helped them because I had nothing to do.”
“But it doesn’t change the fact, that you helped them.”
“Well, boredom make me do weird things.”
“You sti-”
“Shh, let’s just eat… and later I will walk you home.”
Things were always like that with him, they did nothing else, nothing new, but she was still happy.
At least he was still within her reach and came to her whenever he got hurt. Yes…those were the moments when she could see him, and touch him… but it also stabbed her heart with knives. It hurts…it really hurts…seeing him in pain…
“Oh by the Sunwell, please let him be safe today. I don’t need to see him, please just let him be okay…”
Starting from that point now, Alea was clear about her feelings for him… Letting Reylain become someone…special to her. Someone… that she didn’t want to lose, but nothing goes smoothly like in the storybooks…Nothing stays the same.
She should know that by now… She just didn’t want to…
An essential trait of a Farstrider is their attention to small details, so it didn’t really take long before Alea noticed something very strange about Reylain and not just pointing out the obvious. Like how he is constantly avoiding the city guards or the fact, that he knew almost everyone on the Murder Row.
That row…was named… the “Murder Row” for very good reasons. People get murder there nearly every day, with fights and shady deals happening all around the clock.
Yet…everyone there…was seemingly afraid of him.
Afraid of wronging him… Afraid of going even close to him.
With that alone… everything should have been clear as day for her, but…it was a man, who completed the whole puzzle for her. A man, who goes by the name, “Freak.”
Everything about this man gave Aleanissa the goosebumps. From his Cheshire cat-like smile to the “Tick tock” sound, he likes to make with his tongue. He…was no doubt a double edge sword. Your savior or your worst nightmare.
Beautiful but dangerous, like a rose.
“A girl like you…hanging around the famous “Lady Killer,” How interesting…”
“Lady Killer…? Are you talking about Reylain?”
“Yes, Reylain Dawnsorrow! One of the most famous killers of the row! Don’t tell me now, that you knew nothing about him…”
“I…”
“Oh? So you knew? Then… are you seeking for the pleasure that he could eventually provide you? All women here seek that from him as he is quite a looker.”
“No-o… I didn’t know, and I am not seeking anything like that from him.”
“Really now? You don’t imagine being in his arms for one night? Letting him do whatever he wants with you?”
“Why should I trust you? and no!”
“Then tell me, Ranger, what do you seek and believe?”
“ I …just want to be there for him when he needs someone….and I feel safe with him because I trust him. “
That was all she needed to say before the man broke into loud laughter and stared at her so intensity as if he was tempting to stare into her soul before his lips reopened with a final warning. “You would be considered lucky… if he just threw you away after he is done with you and…if you still don’t believe me…ask him yourself.“
Every single last word…of his ending sentence, burnt her like acid. Of course Freak was telling the truth and with that… everything was finally starting to make sense. Reylain…wasn’t who she thought he was.
So… what is she doing at his front door right now…? How is she still feeling safe? What is making her believe that everything they did together, wasn’t just for show?
It’s because…she doesn’t want to lose him, she still likes him… and just wanted to be there for him throughout his rare moments of hardships. Bandaging him up… after a fight, no matter how much it pained her.
Stupid maybe…but it was her choice, she wants to tell him… She wants to tell him everything.
“Alea- what are you doing here?”
“Rey this might sound completely crazy to you… but I think…I have fallen for you and…
“I need your hug…”
She had fallen for that man. She had fallen for Reylain Dawnsorrow.
((Thank you Reylain, for letting me write about his character and Freak for helping me with the plot. I really had a fun time writing this piece and can’t wait to see how everything would end with this, but I guess that is a whole different story for next time.
