Imagine what aliens would react when a human receive a care package from their family or partner? A handful of humans on an alien crew coming back to the space station after some deep space missions. All the strange food and knick nacks, prepping for a holiday or something.

Humans on earth have a strange habit of sending supplies to their close friends and family members who are travelling through space. These packages generally include food, games, comfort items, books, and more. It is odd because generally ships will have all of these supplies provided (and if not they can be easily acquired upon request). So, why do they feel the need to send things that the humans on board could get themselves? Our studies point to the heightened sociable personalities that humans have. Humans form very strong pack bonds with other humans and often feel the need to express their care for these humans through gifts that show how well they know each other. It appears that humans feel much happier receiving a box of their favorite food from a friend or family member than asking for it from a crew member. This is because it shows that the other humans were not only thinking of them and their well-being, but also proves that they knew each other well enough to remember what things they enjoy most. It is actually quite endearing behavior and is always nice to watch a human open one of these “care packages”. To maintain high moral among humans onboard your ship, it is encouraged to provide them information on how packages can be sent to them while they are away from home. This will prevent feelings of homesickness, especially around the holidays when their family members’ absence is most prominent.
