Starting my first nanowrimo with my jaw on the floor. I still don't know where I pulled those words from. I am very proud of myself.

I hope everyone had a good first day of nano! And remember, every word written is progress, no matter how many or how few. And if you didnt write today, that's okay. Tomorrow is a new day! Keep on dreaming, keep on plotting, keep those ideas alive!

Excerpt:

Finally she saw the boy at the end of the road, and instead of going back inside to start preparing the recipe she had been waiting on Finn for, she stood there with narrowed eyes watching him grow nearer. Once he was close enough that she could see the curious look he was giving her, she rolled her yes and straightened where she stood.

           “You took longer than usual.” She said bluntly, pursing her lips when he smirked.

           “Were you standing here waiting for me?” He asked as he held out the pouch he was carrying and she took it greedily. She peered inside, breathing in the intoxicating earthen aromas of the ingredients within. When she looked back up, her mood had changed completely to that of a cat lounging in the most perfect patch of sunlight and she even made a purring sound in her throat as a goofy grin spread across her face.

           “Okay, first of all, you’re adorable.” Finn said, shaking his head. “Second, I’m sorry I took so long, I got held up in a conversation outside Lavenn’s shop.”

           “With Lavenn...?” Zara tilted her head. “Peculiar.”

           “No, no,” Finn chuckled. “Some of the members from the academy, actually,”

           “Oh.” She said, taking a deep breath and looking away. “Why, what did they want?”

           “Just thought I should introduce myself since we’ll be spending the next few weeks in the same company,” He said, giving her a look. “Nothing suspicious took place, I assure you, Zar. They’re actually quite friendly,”

           “That’s what they want you to think.” She muttered under her breath, earning a quirked brow from Finn as he nudged her toward the house.

Nanowrimo 2018 Day 2

Day two consisted of starting chapter 10 and making headway on that. I just ended at a scene with my girl, Mittsy, that I've been looking forward to writing since camp nano in July, so day 3 will be exciting.

All in all, it was a productive and enjoyable day 2.

Excerpt:

Breathing too quickly, she grabbed Finn’s arm to steady herself as she tried to stand. Her legs didn’t move despite her desire to run, and she felt herself becoming increasingly lightheaded as her heart pounded far too loudly in her ears.

Before she knew what was happening, Finn was taking her into his arms and shushing her, holding her against him as she shook. Her palms were clammy and she gripped his shirt so tightly she could feel her nails biting into her skin through the cloth.

“Just breathe,” He said calmly, his hand rubbing her back as she clung to him.

Camp Nano Day 11

Total: 10198/15000

Day 11: 859 words

Made it to the 10,000 word mark!!! AHHHH!!! I still have 20 days left!!! I THINK I'M GOING TO PASS MY 15K WORD GOAL THIS MONTH!!!

Excerpt:

“We should go back.” Finn said, slowly looking away from Zara to glance past her down the street. “Before someone notices we’re here.”

“I thought you said it was okay that we were here?” Haslly squeaked, the first to barrel after Finn down the street. Zara took a moment to process things but Ellis nudged her to move, casting a weary look over his shoulder as she finally began following Finn away.

“Finn—Finn, hold up!” Haslly called, already out of breath as they lurched back into the crowded area, and she paused to wait for Zara and Ellis to catch up. Finn had stopped to wait, but he looked antsy as his eyes stared toward the street they had erupted from.

Zara felt slow, weak even, as she let Ellis guide her gentle but swiftly toward their friends, and once Finn stood before them and took one look at Zara, he shoved a thumb over his shoulder indicating for Ellis to go.

“Take Haslly and let the others know I took Zara home,” He told him, not waiting for an answer as his arm wrapped around Zara’s waist to move her forward...

Camp Nano Day 10

Day 10: 2118 words

CHAPTER FOUR OF UPROOTED IS DONE!!! At least for the first draft, anyway. Still, super excited to be making this much progress somehow???

Excerpt:

...In all honesty, Zara had a hard time understanding and believing much of what the story tellers told them. Surely if her abilities were such a wonderful, powerful gift then she would be able to do these magnificent things the legends told of. Bending the elements at will? She could barely make out what the river was telling her—if it was telling her anything at all—and while it was true that she had always felt a deeper connection with nature than others, the things she felt were mere pulls, like tiny currents of energy drawing her this way and that, but never controlling her, never giving clear direction or guidance.

Girl can eat!! Seriously, I don't know where she puts it.

But she can't cook...

Which is why she has Finn! He basically keeps her alive.

But he doesn't mind, cause he's all...

And also she's a nature speaker!

Finn has this smirk that is reserved just for Zara, and its the cutest.

They've been best friends since they were kids.

Finn mostly keeps to himself but always wants to be with Zara.

And there ya go, not too much spoiler-y stuff. These two are pretty much a package deal, but it's totally platonic, just ask Zara. 🤷‍♀️

Excerpt - Uprooted: Song of Time, Chapter 3 (draft 1.0)

I just really enjoy this scene and wanted to share.

(Also, @raiswanson this is the tree branch bit.)

She had fallen to the back of the group, and Finn fell into step with her.

           “You okay?” He asked, keeping his eyes ahead.

           “Yes,” She said, glancing at him and crossing her arms. “Why?”

           “Just noticed you seem a little lost,” He said casually as he tried to keep a straight face.

           “What? Lost how?” Zara gave him a look that said he was stupid, but quickly did a once over of her surroundings and realized to her chagrin that she had wandered quite a ways from the path the group always took and was, in fact, alone except for Finn’s company. Instead of replying, Finn just stood there watching her in amusement.

           “What in the world?” She sputtered, turning in a full circle and giving the tree to her right a bewildered look. Finn chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.

           “So, I take it you’re not actually okay?” He pressed, raising a brow when she stared blankly at him. “Zar, you’re clearly exhausted, let’s get you home before it’s completely dark. I for one do not want to spend the night wandering the woods, especially when I know we’re so close to home.”

           “We wouldn’t wander all night, I know the way back, Finn.” She said grumpily, retracing her steps up a small incline to find the path she had strayed from.

           “Uh huh,”

She could hear the smirk in his voice, and even in the dim lighting she cast a glare in his direction as she stumbled slightly in a shallow hole she hadn’t seen and growled quietly. Suddenly a branch came out of nowhere and a crisp thwack sound was followed by a cry as Zara’s hand shot up to cup her cheek.

           “What was that for?” She yelled at the branch, rubbing the tender skin and angrily blinking away the tears that pricked her eyes.

           “What happened?” Finn said, appearing beside her and uttering an, “Oh,” when he saw her face.

“What did you do to piss off the trees today, Zar?” He asked teasingly, gesturing for her to continue down the path towards home.

           “Finn,” She gave him a warning look as she huffed grumpily and strode briskly away. He was beside her again and matching her pace without a word, but a smirk remained in place on his pale face.

Camp Nano Day 9

Posting a day late since last night was spent keeping the tiny humans alive. Hopefully I’ll get some writing done today and post an excerpt from day 10, but we’ll see what the gremli--er, children think about that.

Word Count: 1416 words

The room was dark, aside from the lone candle that was slowly burning out. Thunder boomed outside the tower walls, and lightning flitted across the room through the window high above them. Her heart still pounding like a drum in her ears, she snuggled up closer to Finn and exhaled the breath she had been holding when his arm tightened around her, closing the remaining gap between their bodies. A breathy sigh whispered past her lips as she placed her hand on his chest and felt his heart beating steadily beneath her fingers. Finally, her eyes fluttered closed and exhaustion found her drifting slowly into a sweet, peaceful slumber.

Day 6 was a hard parenting day. I don't even remember writing, so the fact that I managed to get over 2000 words has me floored.

Finished chapter 11! Starting 12 today and hopefully this will be the last chapter before I can knit in the chapter I wrote back in January.

I made words happen today!!! And I finally introduced 2 characters that have been here for a few chapters without having actually been introduced. Whoops!!

I also have been extremely emotional and just honestly blown away at the responses of love and encouragement I've received today from my post this morning. Honestly thank you so much. 😭❣❣❣

I couldn't choose an excerpt for today that would make sense out of context and I didn't want to post too much since this is a spoilery scene. Hopefully excerpt on day 8!
