Okay proper discussion post on Zatch Bell!2 chapter 40 because GOD I have so much to talk about here- spoilers below the cut jfc really long post btw this chapter hit me like a truck and no one I know is reading the series alongside me

The demons turned to stone for 1,000 years have such a tragic story, and the fact that E.O. who is pretty heavily in the silly funny comedy relief type character camp, delivering this tragic DEVASTATING tale... COMING HOME, LOOKING AT HIS HOUSE STILL STANDING AND SEEING OTHER DEMONS LIVING THERE INSTEAD OF HIS MOM? FUCKING,

LEARNING SHE'S BEEN DEAD FOR 500 YEARS AND CRYING AT HER GRAVE UNTIL DEEP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT? HELLO??? Like... reading the priest demon guy telling him she's been dead for so long is so... I'll be honest I fucking laughed at that, like what else can you do it's so fucked. Now, I know people are weird about Patie saying she'll be his mom for some reason... she's literally just a little kid who's made a friend who was comforting him, like, idk I don't get the weirdness people feel towards that, it's such a silly cute little thing that I think is very inline with something a kid would be saying... Patie is so so happy to give E.O. a new place to live and she cares for him so much, the blatant racism for... undead...? mummy? demons is so heart breaking to see. The added backstory for E.O. is CRAZY and makes Zofis manipulating him in the stone tablet arc SO MUCH WORSE??? E.O.'s mom abandoned their clan all to give him a better life so he could grow up away from a life of crime... and then, first Goren fucks him over with the stone spell, Zofis frees him from the stone but then manipulates and pushes him into evil, and THEN after the battle is all over and he's finally fucking happy with Patie, the maids are fucking racist to him and he falls in with the exact people his mom had done EVERYTHING to keep him away from... this fucking story man. THIS is exactly what I'm talking about when I praise how the mangaka handles comedy and serious tones, it's all woven together in such a good way. AND THEN IN THE MIDDLE OF E.O. BEING FORCED INTO THIS BANDIT CLAN, PATIE FUCKING SHOWS UP TO BRING HIM HOME. NOT ONLY CAPPING OFF E.O.'S TRAGIC STRING OF BAD LUCK, BUT CEMENTING PATIE AS HEAD OF HER FAMILY AND EARNING SUOU NEDEA'S POWER. Their storylines both get this beautiful climactic moment together,,, Suou Nedea is so so interesting, I think there's some confusing lore on like... dragons? So like, Suou Nedea and Baou Zakeruga are the same I think, dragon spells that have taken on this life of their own, and now reside with the bloodline. Baou seems uniquely extra strong and was split up and forcibly passed down by Dauwan, compared to Suou Nedea who seems much more chill and an active part of when they're passed down from the current head of the family to the next. I do think it's weird that Zatch gets... seemingly a second Baou-esq dragon, like I assume we get Baou back at some point but does the Bell family just get two dragons now lmao

So going back to Patie stuff now. I LOVE the way her reactions to everyone is handled. There's such an interesting moment where she sees everyone for the first time after so long, after being fucking dead lmao. She looks at Zatch and for a second she's a little kid again, her infatuation flares and she has a tiny second of just... being relaxed and like a child... She quickly straightens out and her maturity settles back in place as gratitude flows from her. Then she sees Uri and she AGAIN has this moment of being her younger self. She's bratty and bossy and snide, but quickly snaps back to her actual self, smiling so fondly and genuinely... girl I'm fucking crying... last thing to talk about... IZANAMI?! THE IZANAMI OF THE DEMON REALM? HELLO??? WTF??!?!?

Also I love this moment specifically so much as characterization for Beliel. He's recognizing and acknowledging the strength of the King and taking a gamble for *something*. I think it's a little silly one of the King's Privileges is... summoning the king? Maybe the King's Privilege is specifically, teleporting to the izanami? So he's just invoking that power, and it isn't literally "teleport the king to x location" I... think I could talk for like 10 more hours but this is a long rambly mess no one will read anyways as is so I'll stop there at this point
