Played the ZERO PARADES, ZA/UM’s next game, demo.

It tries to mimic Disco Elysium to an embarrassing degree, but since it lacks the decade long world building and the writers behind it, the mimicry falls flat. The prose is bland despite trying to emulate the style of DE; mostly because it’s not tied to the larger themes of the work itself. Disco Elysium was a holistic and hermeneutical experience.

ZERO PARADES is literally style without substance. It’s not bad. But it chases a quality and depth it has no way to reach.

The positive I can say is that this time you can see there’s a studio behind it and not like a dozen writers and a handful of artists and programmers. The area is larger, there’s more details, there’s more and more fluent animations. But the soul is absent.
