Terror in resonance?
never seen it | need to see it | hate it | ugh | it was okay | i liked it | LOVED IT | one of my faves
I never finished it because when I started it there were only three episodes out and I never have the patience to wait week to week for a new episode for any show. It’s on my list to watch again.
OIKAWA
I like to think this is more of a Kageyama/Oikawa song because I feel like it fits them.
@zealtime I challenge you to a punk battle. I’ve yet to work out any terms but there’s like 6+ inches of snow outside and you’re probably bored being sick and we need something to do that will be either fun or an absolute train-wreck.
3 for Render
3) What inspired [insert fic]?
I feel like I might have mentioned this before, but Render was a long-ass complicated fucking journey.
I’m not sure if it started like a lot of my other works did (through vivid dreams - still with me and long road back to good are offhand examples of this) but I do remember that it was initially a RinHaru fic called Past Tense for Future Lovers (a title i am still saving for something one day).
PTfFL followed the son of a brilliant scientist (Rin) as he grew up alongside the pet project his father loved more than his own son (Haru) and then much later, when Rin inherited Haru in much the same way as Jean did with Marco. However, as I planned things out I was just starting to get into SNK and realized that Marco’s canon injuries would be an excellent excuse to replace body parts with robotic ones; and thus, Render was born!
I have to give credit to a couple people just for really important pre-lim stuff. My then-roomie @kaishun suggested the title (over Dis/ReMembered, which was pretty but hard to decipher) and of COURSE @sinelanguage who in general helped me with the initial outline (where Marco stayed dead as one of the options, and where Hitch/Kingsguard was never a factor)
“What the hell man?!” He shouted and Marco feared the saleswoman would hear. The freckled brunette defensively put his hands in front of him; as a sign he meant no harm. “Please, don't shout! I-I only want to talk to you for a second, I promise!” He whispered, eyes pleading. The shirtless model in front of him frowned but it was hard to stay focused on his face when Marco could see the perfect lines of his well defined pecs and abs
Wow I never thought someone would really do this thing ! I’m so happy right now!!^^
Soooooo….
I had to find a way for simple Marco to meet famous Jean and first, I needed a place where they could meet. A random shop sounded too common, somewhere where Jean might be recognized and it wasn’t glamorous enough. So I went for a fancy clothing shop.
Then Marco had to talk to Jean, but just starting talking with him in the shop seemed boring so then I had this brilliant idea to make Marco enter the changing room but with no ulterior motive of peeping on Jean whatsoever. I just picture Marco to be the kind to act on a brim and completely forget about what is correct or not for a second, before suddenly remembering it and becoming extremly flustered and embarrassed XD.
And in this scene Marco ends up peeping on Jean a little because he can’t help it, Jean’s too hot XD
Thanks for this ask, it was a lot of fun commenting on this scene. I hope my reply is satisfying! :)
Could you do Strings with a symbol of your choice (especially if it has something to do with Armin and his story)?
Hmmm let’s go with something I cut out! Although I can’t recall what I cut, what came later, and what was always conceived for a possible sequel/companion I never had time to write.
In the first outline of Strings, Armin actually killed Bertholdt and Reiner, which set off a long chain of events that lead to Annie shooting Erwin on the rooftop on Dec 12 and Eren going off the bridge with Armin. That all changed when I wrote the scenes after Halloween and realized that Armin just plain didn’t have what it takes to get his hands dirty. He’s not as cool and detached as he thinks he is: he could barely handle seeing Jean’s close call, there was no way he could kill someone, let alone two kids, in cold blood.
That lead to a scene which I THINK I thought about but cut, and was going to include in a companion...basically, when Eren stumbled on the whole plot, he essentially volunteered himself as Armin’s hostage to buy Reiner and Bertl time and prevent armin from hurting them. It would’ve bee a little extra heroism for Eren, who really got sidelined and slapped around in Strings, and added some more depth to just how torn and at war with himself Armin was. But it also gave away too much, when the final set of reveals leading up to The Train needed to be from Jean’s point of view to really land.
So yeah, a lot of stuff about Armin’s inner struggle and his relationship with Annie landed on the cutting room floor. Some part of him truly loved her, and it absolutely did catch him off guard that she turned on him.
30. one anime conclusion you would change
also requested by @zealtime
obviously MASSIVE spoilers ahead
I thought the conclusion of Tokyo Ghoul proper, the manga in this case, kinda missed the landing. (I havent watched/read RE, so if I get around to that my opinions might change.) A lot of the big emotional beats just felt unearned, like Gotcha gut punches, ESPECIALLY the Big Death, which sort of actively contradicted some of the thematic stuff it felt like they were setting up. (I can’t die, it will make him a murderer.) It just felt like a lot of gore and tragedy for the sake of gore and tragedy with out a lot of payoff.
The reveal of Uta being a villain just felt like the WORST kind of late-game gotcha. Psyche he’s actually a bad guy, not that there was ANYTHING to suggest that, or anything to motivate him to be the bastion of...basically niceness that he was for most of the series up til that point. It jsut felt like a twist for the sake of a twist, but it’s not clever to fool readers with something they never could have guessed...blgh. I was disappointed.
I’m sure there’s other ways to read a lot of this stuff, like the thematic payoffs of the big deaths, and maybe a lot of it pays off in RE. I’d actually be quite interested to hear how someone who did like the final battle read it! But for the most part that one kind of rubbed me the wrong way as a reader.
