BYE SUMMER, HELLO FALL! A review
Last night was one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable evenings I have had in a long time as four local bands showed great talent, and a trouser malfunction, at The Charleston. First on stage was Tacoma alternative rock quartet, The Mural Project. I was immediately struck by how well lead guitar/singer Spenser Ready's vocal skills, and how well they blended with the instrumentals to completely fill The Charleston. Their songs were very enjoyable and well put together, making for a very solid start to the night. I hope very much to see them return to the Kitsap area for future shows. Next to hit the stage was Bremerton indie band, Zebra Mirrors. Sitting on the edge of genres I enjoy, I've always struggled to get into their recorded songs (please note that I still consider their music rather good), but I was pleasantly surprised by their live performance as they too fully filled The Charleston. I would encourage anyone interested in indie style sounds to check them out and show them some support. Then came The Fame Riot, an electro-rock/pop/glam group from Tacoma. I was not excited for this act, but was shocked at how simply entertaining they were. I'll probably never listen to their music outside of a live show, but would defiantly go to another show they were at. Eccentric and full of energy, stage presence is something they have down... along with one member's pants, luckily an audience member supplied a belt. The final act of the night was Kitsap alternative rock band Acelyn doing an acoustic set. This was the perfect end to a show that flowed very well from beginning to end. I was pleased to see Acelyn show that they can do more than just rock powered, with songs translating very well into an acoustic format as well as lead singer Bobbie Nolen's voice. They rapped up with a quirky cover for a friend's birthday that had the audience in a line, arm's around each other, swaying and dancing. All of the night's bands showed the pool of talent local concerts pull from. I would encourage all of you to not only check out the bands pages (listed below), but to attend some of their upcoming concerts.
