Poulsbo Venue
You heard me, we're working on the idea of starting a venue in Poulsbo. We're going to need a LOT of support to make that a reality though, but it's possible. And how cool would it be?!

National Suicide Prevention Day
Today is national suicide prevention day. It is a day to remind each other how much we actually love and care, and a day to remember those who we've lost. Please take the time today to tell your friends just how much you actually care, it could literally save a life. I know I might now be here if not for my best friend.

BYE SUMMER, HELLO FALL! A review
Last night was one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable evenings I have had in a long time as four local bands showed great talent, and a trouser malfunction, at The Charleston. First on stage was Tacoma alternative rock quartet, The Mural Project. I was immediately struck by how well lead guitar/singer Spenser Ready's vocal skills, and how well they blended with the instrumentals to completely fill The Charleston. Their songs were very enjoyable and well put together, making for a very solid start to the night. I hope very much to see them return to the Kitsap area for future shows. Next to hit the stage was Bremerton indie band, Zebra Mirrors. Sitting on the edge of genres I enjoy, I've always struggled to get into their recorded songs (please note that I still consider their music rather good), but I was pleasantly surprised by their live performance as they too fully filled The Charleston. I would encourage anyone interested in indie style sounds to check them out and show them some support. Then came The Fame Riot, an electro-rock/pop/glam group from Tacoma. I was not excited for this act, but was shocked at how simply entertaining they were. I'll probably never listen to their music outside of a live show, but would defiantly go to another show they were at. Eccentric and full of energy, stage presence is something they have down... along with one member's pants, luckily an audience member supplied a belt. The final act of the night was Kitsap alternative rock band Acelyn doing an acoustic set. This was the perfect end to a show that flowed very well from beginning to end. I was pleased to see Acelyn show that they can do more than just rock powered, with songs translating very well into an acoustic format as well as lead singer Bobbie Nolen's voice. They rapped up with a quirky cover for a friend's birthday that had the audience in a line, arm's around each other, swaying and dancing. All of the night's bands showed the pool of talent local concerts pull from. I would encourage all of you to not only check out the bands pages (listed below), but to attend some of their upcoming concerts.

Who's a part of the flagship music team?
Right now the core team is Phoenix Olson, Aeryl Price, and Kyle Whitt (me), but we are always looking for more contributes. Also, this flagship is a network, so anyone who supports it is a part of the team. And you can be as involved as you want, from sharing posts, talking to people, commenting, to posting on the tumblr or facebook, it's really up to you.
Your Role
Flagship is about more than just the team doing reviews and posting shows, it's a network for all of us to connect and get more involved in local music. So post, share, comment, get on this! You all help define the directions this will take.

The Next Step
So from here Flagship's going to mainly consist of band reviews and profiles, venue profiles, show reviews, promotion of awesome shows, and other related topics about the Kitsap music scene. We plan on getting some kind of podcast going on a monthly basis. But a lot of this rests in the hands of you guys to support and spread. So if you care about local music, please help us as we support the local scene.

We are the Dream Makers
Whether they seek fame, acceptance, emotional expression, rage at the world, to spread a message, to spread a sound, or just the simple joy of making music, local bands give it their all time and time again in the tiny but enjoyable venues of Kitsap County. During the late nineties and dwindling into the early two-thousands, Kitsap sat on the precipice of large scale musical success driven by multiple bands rising to popularity and Endfest being held at the Kitsap Fairgrounds. Imagine with me what today could have looked like, The fairgrounds being the home to major shows, bands coming to Kitsap to get exposure and rock one of the many mid-sized venues, and Kitsap's own radio station covering it all. How amazing would that be? That may not ALL be possible, but at least a slice of that can be achieved. The local scene IS NOT DEAD! It's alive and thriving, just under the surface. Why not blow the doors open and see what we can do? We are the ones who make dreams reality, if even for just one night. When we go to shows, any of the many five dollar shows at venues across Kitsap, and watch the talent of Kitsap pour their hearts out, we make dreams real. We grow dreams. We make them reality. Endfest may never come back, Kitsap may never be known to the outside as a musical powerhouse of Washington, there may never be a radio station representing our sound, but why that won't stop the sound. And we shall foster that sound, seeing how much noise we can make, see how many dreams can be made reality. We are Kitsap, and our music will never die.
