This is an odd design- it's a Zen equestrian estate with room for 3 horses, but it's like a house on top of an empty building. 1964 build in Arvada, CO has 5bds, 5ba, 8,078sqft, $2m + $17mo. HOA.

They have this large expanse of unused space below the house.

Plus this unfinished area.

The actual residence is built on the roof.

This looks nice. The plants really make it.

See, you come up from the lower building. I wonder if there was originally a plan for the pattern in the floor.

Since this is a mid century modern house, there's an updated conversation pit.

Large kitchen has those dated cabinets w/the carved doors, but they're in excellent condition.

They've got everyday dining and formal dining in the same area, b/c it's so big.

This must be a family room w/the Ying & Yang in the floor.

This home is so Zen. I think I'd like it better if the skylights were all white, they stand out too much.

The primary bedroom has a faux river running along the floor, and a stone wall w/a little bridge to the ensuite. I recognize this house- that used to be a real fish tank w/real fish in the floor. Guess it didn't work out.

Check this feature out. Is that for meditation? A shrine, maybe? (The fish were able to swim from here, thru the bedroom floor.)

Look at the pebble pattern in the ensuite tile.

The primary bedroom is in a loft above an indoor pool.

9ft.?! Isn't that deep?

Then, here you have a shower and what looks like a stone sauna.

This bedroom and bath have a horse theme.

And, it looks like a deck upon a deck.

Spectacular 1968 home perched on a rocky cliff in Big Sur, California. "Taktsang Big Sur" was originally inspired by a monastery high in the Himalayas of Bhutan, and later extensively remodeled by Big Sur architect Mickey Muennig. 2bds, 2ba, $25M.

Really, for $25M, I would rather have something like this than some fussy estate.

Very comfy and cozy with beautiful views inside and out.

On the 2nd level there's a great ceiling and family areas, plus a view of the main floor from the mezzanine.

Thanks to Curieosly for finding this very Zen 1988 home in Mendota Heights, MN. 5bds, 4.5ba, $1.975M.

Interesting entrance with a little nook and a tile feature wall. I like the light wood beams.

Overhead features and walk-thru's are always a fun feature.

Love the round window and vaulted ceiling.

The recessed far wall has a sideboard running the whole length of it.

The floorplan is open and airy with superb architectural features.

Besides the living room, there's a smaller, less formal sitting room.

By the dining area there's an angled fireplace, which is different. It's made of attractive tiles, and I think that the back of it is the wall in the entrance hall.

The kitchen is lovely. The color is a very soft griege. From one angle it looks very light dove gray, yet from another angle and light, it looks more creamy.

In the corner of the dining area there are tall built-in cabinets and a desk.

The primary bedroom features floor-to-ceiling windows.

Large en-suite with a very Zen soaker tub.

Big family room by the stairs.

Very nice library. Lots of natural light.

The bath has lovely tile. Seems like the baths in this home are all large.

One of the secondary bedrooms. Quite roomy and the window seat must also have storage.

Bath #3 is a big shower room.

The deck is huge.

This is some nice desk. Look at the elevated screen house.

What a great place to sit comfortably away from bugs.

As we've learned, it's much better to have plants rather than lawn.

The landscaper and owners really get it. They're helping the bees.

I take it personally when my former posts don't sell and this is one of my favorites, still on the market. The 1969 house in Plantation, FL is art- look at the modern piece outside and the matching round windows. 5bds, 4ba, $1.28M (In an obvious act of defiance, the seller just upped the price $10K.) + $113mo. HOA. Let's go in.

Check it out- it's clearly got the mid-century modern elements, but coupled with Zen decor and color.

Once the seller takes his stuff out, you've got a mid-cent. mod living room open to the pool. It has a classic fireplace and pitched ceiling.

Then it's the classic den with MCM wood paneling. The only thing different would be the round windows, but they're cool.

They have this flex space set up as a pool room. More round windows.

The kitchen is combined with a rec room. Look at the bar and sunken sitting area.

This is a conversation pit with a cool red Scandinavian fireplace.

The kitchen is somethin' else. Pinkish red with laminate counters and original cabinets.

Mirrored walls were popular in MCM homes and the dining room has them.

Original bathroom with blue sinks and Zen Soji screens.

Large bedroom has a mirror wall and sliders to the patio.

The smaller bedroom has access to the pool, which is nice.

Check out the mirrored bath. I'm confused. It looks wider than it is.

Look at the shape of the pool. Note the 2nd level over a covered patio.

The en-suite has a sink with butterflies, there's a vanity, and a rounds shiny black tub.

They also have an office in this flex space.

Love the color of the sink and matching tile.

The home is on an open .50 acre of land with a small waterway alongside the property.
