It was a warm summer night the day that Ventus finally took Sora out to star gaze. The minute the older had found out he’d never been star gazing he’d been doomed to a night under the sky. Despite how he might have not understood why it was such a big deal, the wielder could hardly turn down a chance to spend some time with his crush. The budding feelings had completely blind sided him; a shock that had him flustered on how to behave around the blonde. It wasn’t that Ventus was particularly different in any way, only that for the first time Sora was noticing him--really seeing him. His heart would stutter each time he let that warm smile grace his face; or the way the sunlight made his green eyes shimmer like emeralds. It was cheesy and made his heart flutter in all the ways girls used to chatter on about in their early youth. He’d never really understood their mutterings til now.
The final battle with Xehanort had taken a lot from all of them, but it had taken so much from Sora he’d turned bitter and cold. He’d felt alone and forgotten--and then Ventus had come and lifted him up like he’d been doing for years. It was hardly a wonder, then, that he loved him. Or at least the brunette assumed that’s how crushes worked. The biggest issue was that it hadn’t gone away. Everyone said crushes didn’t last--not unless they turned to love and if he was honest, that thought terrified him. He didn’t know the first thing about love and now as far as he could tell, he’d gone and fallen in love with someone that just had to be out of his league. But his heart felt lighter when they were together, as if he was home. If he couldn’t go back to his place of birth--at least he could get some feeling of belonging.
So he went to the land of departure and they sat together on a low-sitting fence and stared up at the sky. Moon and star light shimmered across his friends skin and reflected in his eyes til he felt his breath stutter in his throat at how much like the heavens Ventus looked in the moment. The sky was beautiful but he was certain the blonde outshone anything out there in the deep inky sky. Off handedly he’d mentioned how the freckles that littered the others cheeks looked like that stars. He didn’t mention that he thought that because his own almost faded into a rich tan while the older wielder had moon-pale skin that showed off the expanse of dots like the dark night showed off the stars. Teasingly the blonde told him to look at the sky, not at him and without thinking Sora blurted out probably the biggest flirt. ‘Don’t need to look at the sky, it reflects in your eyes.’
And in that moment fate tested him in a way he felt could only be described as ‘set up for failure’. Blonde hair swam into his view as Ven leaned close, his eyes catching Sora’s bright blue and he couldn’t look away. ‘oh yeah?’ he’d said, but Sora wasn’t listening to words. In that moment his friend looked like an angel; halo’d in moonlight and eyes glittering with stars. Sora could almost feel his lips and then--he did. Unable to resist the proximity his affection bubbled over and he kissed Ventus. It wasn’t light, but not deep either. His lips were firm against Vens, but still shy from lack of experience. His eyes had fluttered closed and his blood had roared into his ears and cheeks. The minute he realized what he’d just done, however, he startled back and nearly fell off the wall.
“I...I’m so sorry!” he panicked, fear over-riding the memory of how soft those lips had felt against his own chapped ones. “You were just...close and you looked like an angel and I thought maybe--and--” he closed his eyes tightly, turning away and hugging himself, waiting for the disgust and rejection. “I’m sorry...c-can we just pretend nothing happened?” That had been his first kiss...he was such an idiot!
