Can I request child of Zephyrus x child of Thanatos? I think they could bond over having wings, and the spring and death thing could be interesting too
a/n: Boy, glad I got involved in Avian characters for a bit and all the fanfiction based on it. Hopefully I did this some justice and you enjoyed it! This was rather fun to write and I got to excercise all the bird imagery to the max. This was cute to write and thanks for reading!
※Child of Zephyrus will be referred as C!Zephyrus and with They/Them pronouns; Child of Thanatos with C!Thanatos and They/Them※
Despite the representation of their respective parents realms, these two demigods definitely drifted together because of their fellow wings. But I'd imagine its not just because "Oh you have wings too?" it's more practical and desperate where it's like "OH YOU HAVE WINGS TOO, OH THANK GODS HELP ME"-
For all the avian lovers or knowers, you know that wings have to be preened by themselves or by fellow birds…and when you're a humanoid with giant wings on your back, even if you have good flexibility, there are times where there's just that one spot that you just can't itch-
So whatever reservations the other may have felt to the other is thrown out of the window for practicality; cause yeah, as a child of Spring and thus new life, may feel apprehensive meeting a child of Death, and vice-versa, their practical needs triumph all; especially when they have a broken feather that's lodged somewhere-
Unless the other had people they were close with in Camp with ample knowledge about feathers to help them preen, its really hard.
Actually, the two demigods probably kept going to the Iris Cabin or even the Pegasus for help with their wings, with the former being good with pegasus and the latter well, because the Pegasus have wings themselves so they must know how to preen.
It definitely comes to a point where the two approached each other for help when the Iris cabin members were indisposed and the Pegasus are two riled up, and after more than a few trips to the Apollo cabin for a few bloodied feathers and other wing injuries, they decided to get over their opinions and approached the other for help and by gods, is a difference.
Cause unlike the Iris cabin members and the Pegasus, they either don't have wings themselves and aren't as adept and move with a certain strength and gentleness or use their teeth to pull out the feathers, the Child of Zephyrus and Child of Thanatos know what its like to have wings, so their fingers are already adept at preening and taking care of the other's feathers.
For all the Avian people out there, you also know that preening is not only a form of self-care, but it's also a form of bonding with others. And this is how the C!Zephyrus and C!Thanatos begin to bond and become closer.
Cause honestly the act of revealing your back towards someone, with your shirt off to expose yourself to their hands is an act of trust and vulnerability, and with wings, they are a vital part of themselves- so immediately, after one session, their walls begin to come down.
(whether or not the wings are hidden under the shirt or even if the back of the shirts were cut open to give room for the Wings to move and breathe, there are smaller flight feathers that are still hidden)
I can imagine them having preening sessions at first out of necessity, but in the long stretches of time of preening one's back and the other preening yours, you can only go for so long with out talking.
Snacks and personal tools are used brought out (and if possible a music player) as they preen each other's wings, as they first start off what's wrong with their wings today and how their feathers' function, before they begin to talk about their own experiences with wings and then smoothly into other topics.
Eventually that bonding from the preening sessions bleed outside of it, and becomes birds of a feather flocking together, and whenever they preen the other's feathers, it becomes less of a practical need and more an act of love. Which makes soon ends with the session with kissing and cuddle party.
Probably prefers the other preen their feathers then themselves at some point, and miss the other's fingers trailing their feathers and back when they're gone.
Just like the Wind and Death, both of the C!Zephyrus and C!Thantos can go invisible and more than once, they've use their abilities to fly/glide in the air or snuck out together. More of then not, they use their invisibility abilities to hide themselves from prying eyes to have a moment of privacy with each other.
The smell of spring and wind helps blow away the smell of death on the C!Thanatos temporarily, allowing them to feel lighter and more approachable to others, and the touch the C!Zephryus brings life and vibrancy to their life, especially when they're surrounded by death. That there's always life and the flowers' vitality will always come back.
The C!Thanatos' presence helps mask the C!Zephyrus' presence, whenever the wind demigod gets overwhelmed from everyone else. Being the demigod of a popular minor demigod who has several relations with other gods and thus demigods, they become overwhelmed with their popularity and sometimes the attention other seek from them gets too overwhelming.
So being with the C!Thanatos' whose presence is deafening silent helps them calm down and they rather like when the C!Thanatos not only hugs them close to their chest, but also when their wings cover them like a hug by a another set of fluffy arms.
Probably didn't share their first kiss with each other for the longest time because the C!Thanatos was worried that they may have the "Kiss of Death" and they don't want to harm the C!Zephyrus and soiling an act of love with such a thing. However, there was no worry but the C!Zephyrus did feel like dying from all the excitement and emotion when they did have their first kiss and for other kisses.
The C!Zephyrus is probably the most openly affectionate and emotional of the two of them, and the C!Thanatos, while the C!Thanatos is the most sound and ardent of them.
Hey, it’s been a minute since I’ve posted on here. Idk if you got any of my request or not (if you did, take your time on them, also is it possible to put the Eris/Apollo step-sibs in the Demigod Ships masterlist or to just make a separate masterlist for them).
I just wanted to know your thoughts and hc’s about Apollo step-sib (she/her) being in a relationship with a child of Zephryos (he/him) and Eris-sib’s (she/her) thoughts and reaction to it (maybe some overprotective threatening and stuff to Zephryos son).
-🍎 anon
A/N: Hey 🍎 anon, welcome back. I can put the Eris/Apollo step-siblings in the demigod ship masterlist, I just didn't know that would be considered a ship since it wasn't explicitly stated as such and it is between siblings and all that. However for a masterlist about them or anything related to you, I won't do that because that takes too much time and I can't personally cater to you because if I do that for you, I have to do that for everyone and I don't have the time or energy to do that.
The best you're going to get is on my ➡ Ao3 PJO Tumblr Asks ⬅that I've already done that since the beginning. I won't do it on Tumblr because word count, efficiency, accessibility, and again, keeping things fair for everyone. Not to mention, when you're on as anon, its hard to keep track if its actually you or someone else who wants to share their own idea something similar with Eris demigods, apollo demigod step-siblings, and so forth.
I saw about your anon masterlist request and there were reasons I did not do it because I've consulted other experienced Tumblr fanfic writers in my friend group and they have no idea what that meant and/or seen from other Anon masterlists don't work well at all in the long run. Not to mention, defeats the point of being Anonymous if you want to be tagged and identified.
General Reminder: I am just one person with limited health restrictions and have my own time and energy. I am doing this for fun and I've stated in my bio, I get to choose what I want to write. Its just been most of the time that everyone's asks have mostly struck inspiration and it was fun to write.
ANSWER:
I'd imagine there isn't anything actually that far different then an overprotective sibling dynamic which the younger sibling just rolls their eyes and to ignore their older sibling.
If it were just the usual sibling behaviour of where the Eris demigod tells the Apollo demigod that she could do better and that the child of Zephyrus isn't worthy of her love or something, then the Apollo demigod could just roll her eyes at it and just bear with it cause siblings.
But if this takes place after the ask where you sent me about the Eris sibling joining Kronos' side and the Titan War, then we're talking about something very different.
Cause I'd imagine with everything that went on, even if the Eris demigod and Apollo demigod have reconciled after the war, its still a sore spot because those years still happened in between and it was a war, where both sides lost people; more so for the Apollo demigod since practically most of her siblings were killed in the Battle of Manhattan.
So if the Apollo demigod catches wind of the Eris demigod threatening her boyfriend or anyone else she loves in general, then its a major trigger. Cause I'd imagine the Apollo demigods in general are traumatized losing their siblings and love ones, making them cherish them more and willing to do what is needed to keep them safe and alive (i.e. which explains Will's behavior when he follows Nico to the underworld).
So just as much as the Apollo demigod loves and cherish her sister, even after everything, she also loves the child of Zephyrus just as much.
And when their supposed sibling, who supposedly loves and cares for her to be part of the side that ended up killed their half-siblings, the people she loved, threaten the Son of Zephyrus who she does loves, then its just a major attack against the Apollo demigod.
Because I can imagine the Apollo demigod thinking the Eris demigod doesn't really care about her, to put her own emotions (and selfishness) aside just for one moment, even if the Eris demigod does care for her sibling and that her over-protectiveness comes from good intentions, but is misleading result.
Where it's very much becomes "The Road to hell is paved with good intentions"
Not to mention, as a demigod of Eris, there's always the possibility that she would subconsciously or will consciously effect the surroundings of the Son of Zephyrus with misfortune and discord. And who knows what will go too far that will major affect him? or even the people around him, that might drag the Apollo demigod with him?
That would've always been a concern the Apollo demigod grew up with the Eris demigod, because that's the Eris' demigod's nature and power, and they both had to learn how to harness it.
And an Eris demigod's threats could always become very much real because she is the demigod of the goddess of Discord. Where her mother just threw a golden apple that eventually led itself to the Trojan War. Where the Eris demigod still stayed with Kronos' side despite knowing they would have to fight against anyone that stood with the gods, which included her own sibling.
Even if Zephyrus has a record of having beef with Apollo over Hyacinthus, that doesn't transfer over to their children and if that's what the Eris demigod believes and is (part of) her reasoning for threatening the child of Zephyrus for dating her sibling, then the Eris demigod hasn't learned at all from what happened to the Second Titan War and its entirety.
Even if the child of Zephyrus isn't fazed and if the Eris demigod apologizes and smooths things over, its still something she shouldn't have done in the first place and not in a threatening manner because she's still a demigod of Eris and her actions have consequences. Even if the Apollo demigod forgives them, it still a sore spot that will take time to repair her trust in her Eris demigod.
So in short: The Apollo demigod would not react well because the events of the Second Titan War from losing her own siblings and loved ones during the entire point, the betrayal of the Eris demigod's decision cannot be forgotten, even if she's been forgiven, and because of the consequence of the Eris demigod's aggressive actions to the Child of Zephyrus triggers her sibling's emotions regardless the Eris demigod's good intentions.
I love your godly parent headcanons but was wondering how you find all of these sources for powers. Do you have a trick? Especially for some of the more minor gods (I’ve been trying to do one for Eurus + notus for months!) it seems like the only way to find aspects or actions is learn Greek and read Homer lol
Yeah it does seem like that doesn’t it. Been there and done that, so let me ramble about my context with Greek mythology and then how you can use it for your own ideas. Apologises if I may seem to have rambled and gotten a bit off topic at times.
___________________※Long text details below ※ ________________
I haven’t learned Greek or Latin either, but the advantage of Ancient Greek Mythology is that it survived since then, discovered and researched by scholars and linguists for decades, and the resources are already there. Though it does open more avenues and ideas when you do know the original language and the etymology but not entirely necessary in this day and age.
I have read some of Homer, especially during when I took a Greek Mythology class for my elective in University, but it's less daunting once you already have a basis or an idea of basic Greek mythology, and its just written really long. There’s not really any difficult fancy words used repeatedly (as far as I’ve experienced).
However, I don’t think you need to jump into Homer just yet since his works are compiled Epic poems when he was a wandering bard, and these epic poems contain specific details that you pick out about certain heroes, people, and the gods as what they’re described doing and their epithets. People have long compiled them altogether that makes it easy to read. Of course, it depends on the translator but for the general feel of the story and core ideas, any should do.
If you really want to jump into Greek mythology, I think you should start with Hesiod’s Theology, since he compiles every single lineage of every Greek deity and family together, and there are compiled poems describing them. What seems intimidating though is all the annotations scholars, writers, and other literary minds tack on.
Now actually getting to talking about superpowers for the Greek gods and their demigods, the PJOverse that Riordan wrote helps a whole lot because it categorizes and gives us an idea what their demigod powers are specifically. Whether just because Riordan wants it that way or you could interpret it as a whole modern perspective of gods and demigod logic starting to take shape.
Take for example a child of Zeus. We see with Jason and Thalia they have powers that respond to Zeus’s domains: Flight and Wind Powers, (Zeus’s sky epithet and domain of the sky and air), Lightning and Thunder, small Storm generation, (because he is a Sky and Thunder, Storm god). There are also secondary demigod abilities just because being Zeus’s kids and hence are an extension of Zeus himself. Like Eagles are Zeus’s sacred animals so in theory, Eagles will respond to a child of Zeus much more favorably and listen to them than anyone else.
Then you can go back to the Riordanverse of canon examples of what a child of Zeus can do and imagine it from there. If that’s not enough, that’s when you go to Greek mythology and find bits of details about Zeus himself, and his children, and etc. You could look into demigods as a reference but that may not work because going back to Zeus, he has one many, many children and descendents and therefore vary greatly, thus are not consistent in terms of powers.
Take for example Heracles, the famous son of Zeus (grandson of Perseus, who is also a Son of Zeus). He’s great strength and most of his godly attributes is not typically from Zeus primarily, but because Athena managed to trick Hera in breastfeeding baby Heracles, hence being super strong. In the PJOverse, demigods just naturally have enhanced physical abilities.
Back to the example, Zeus is the king of the gods and Kingship, honor, and justice. He is also the upholder of hospitality and ensuring the core rules are upheld (like murdering your own kin or harming your guests first was a big no-no) so you can have a child of Zeus having a power or attribute where they like to uphold order, keeper of honour and oaths, and/or able to detect lies.
In your case with the Anemois, when I was researching them and currently writing them at the moment, like I did with Zephyrus, Notus and Eurus are part of the Anemois, the Four Directional, Seasonal Greek Winds. Each of the winds respond to a season so you can use that as part of their powers. Then there’s how they appear in Greek mythology, their connection with certain gods and realms, and so forth.
Zephyrus is the Greek god of the West Wind, representing Spring, and was considered one of the more favourable and helpful gods; representing how the Greeks favoured Spring, his winds were gentle compared to the much harsher three other winds, and so forth.
So with his Spring connection, a child of Zephyrus would have fertility powers and be able to grow flowers etc much like a child of Demeter. There are also other details I wrote based on his connection and details of his appearances in actual Greek mythology, like his connection with horses, and I spun with it.
So in the case of Notus and Eurus figure out who they are and what they represent, and what comes to mind. Notus is the god of the South winds and is associated with Summer, and Eurus is the god of East winds, representing autumn/fall.
Think of what the direction of winds may have and what they symbolize, what their seasonal representation could have an effect. Like winds in the summer and the winds in fall are very different don’t you think?
You’re basically taking in core aspects of the certain deity, then details about them in mythology, and then you’re basically applying it and working around with it in the medium you’re thinking of (The Riordanverse or your own story) and attaching aspects that make connect with it (Spring = Fertility, Plants, Growth, Love, etc), What does late Summer and autumn mean and represent? and it’ll naturally develop once you get going.
Now you’re probably being intimidated back with Greek mythological ties and no need to worry about it with this website: https://www.theoi.com/
The Theoi project basically has all of Greek Mythology, the gods in classical literature and art. Its a free reference guide to the gods, spirits, and basically everything in Greek mythology. It contains basic summaries, details, encyclopedias, snippets of epics, myths they’re involved in. Including all of the minor gods! Still takes some reading but at least you don’t need to know the entire story of Zeus and Leto separately to just have an idea about Apollo. (Though it is a good idea to have an idea).
Then take what you know, categorize it like I did with the example of the children of Zeus, and then figure out their powers there and apply it to the world around them.
You can use this: https://powerlisting.fandom.com/wiki/Superpower_Wiki to figure out the superpowers and choose them accordingly. Just remember that demigods are not the gods themselves, and are only half-god, and half-human. They are still mortal so there are limits to what humans can do, even if they are half gods. Yes they can do god-like abilities and actions, but they are still mortal.
It's also less daunting to go into Mythology and other historical cultural details involved in general if you have a basic idea or watch ideas discussing the topic. Watch a bunch of YT videos and free lectures discussing the topic in your free time. My favourite formative summaries of Classic literature and mythologies is the Overly Sarcastic Productions crew which made it easier to discover or find out which stories to read and with a pre-prepared idea what it may contain, I figured out my own interpretation and readings from the material itself.
Of course, always fact-check what you watch on YT because there are of course, there are some facts that are interpretations that may not adhere back to the original source or may not be interpreted right to you.
And for my last trick to help you out,
Just look at other headcanons and works by other people. Seriously. That’s how I got to this point when I was a pre-teen!
A whole lot of us got into this by making our own OCs off the bat first, looked at other people making their own OCs based on the concept, fanfics, headcanons, art, and so forth. You can be inspired by other people’s interpretations and ideas! It's definitely a whole lot easier to be inspired than it was over 10 years ago, and it was definitely a whole lot more wild.
Go wild if you want! Especially with minor gods, if there’s not a whole lot about them, take what there is and go wild with it! You’re free to do so! Look at other inspired works of mythology too and see if you can apply it the world you’re working in! Like the EPIC musicals, the HADES games, God of War game franchise, even! Look at anime, cartoons, comics, manga, even other books! It’s all inspiration and we’re all doing this for fun!
Sure, it's nice to tie back to cultural facts and keep it reasonable as if you were the writer, but you don’t necessarily have to because at the end of it, it's for you.
In terms of fanfiction-example, I remember reading a PJO fanfic back in FF.net where in pre-Heroes of Olympus, a writer wrote a scene where Thalia, Nico, and Percy combined their powers to create basically a black liquid of death and poison of destruction together by combining electricity and ozone to bind Nico’s death aura of shadowness, and together with Percy’s power of water to contain and liquidize it all together and decimated an entire army of monsters and destroying everything in its path.
If that doesn’t open up possibilities what children of demigods can do in headcanons and fanon, oh boi. It certainly did set a limit of what could’ve been and lo and behold, we see Percy in canon being able to manipulate poison in the House of Hades.
Heck, my headcanons are just my headcanons that I personally believe and they’re not hard rules I’m imposing on. Everyone else reading them can pick and choose at their own leisure and work off them as a guide for future OCs if they want to.
Just have fun with it most importantly and that’s all that matters! Hope this was any semblance of being useful to you and have fun with your project!
