ZeXal Month day 4! Was out all day yesterday so it’s a bit late.

Power of Love and Friendship!

Oh boy, if ZeXal isn’t the most ship happy Yu-Gi-Oh! Series. We got the good romantic classic with Yuma and Kotori. We got a whole myriad of enemies to friends tropes between the main three and the Arclights. We got a whole host of variety with the various Barians. And they can go either way too, so much stuff that can be read as platonic or romantic. It’s great! I dunno that I’d really want to choose one above all others, buuuuut I did kind of cop out on day 2 already. So for the sake of deciding, I’ll throw back to a piece I did for the Shiplympics forever ago before I got swamped with life stuff and pushed out of having time to work on more.

Sharkbaitshipping! I’m not the greatest artist but I did put some effort into this piece. I love these two idiots.

Who are you? What’s your Zexal story?

Hello. I’m Carmy. I’ve been a fan of Zexal since the show started airing in 2011. Some of you out in the void might remember me, I was mildly active in the fandom in 2013-2014. My Zexal story is kind of unusual because it is the only yugioh spinoff that I’ve properly watched. I grew up a fan of the original yugioh, but was never able to get into the spinoffs. When I saw the coming attractions for Zexal back in 2010-2011, I didn’t really think anything of it because I thought it would just be another spinoff I wouldn’t watch.

Then one day I saw some fans discussing episode 10 of Zexal on the playthedamncard live journal community. I thought it was really interesting that Yuma lost so early in the show (I didn’t know at the time that he lost way more than that). And that led me to start watching Zexal.

I ended up liking Zexal a lot. I liked that it was so similar to DM, but also different enough that it could do it’s own thing. I liked the main characters. I enjoyed the show’s themes. And I really loved how Zexal just got progressively more insane as time went on. Overall I just have a lot of fondness for it.

I haven’t really been involved with the Zexal fandom since the show ended, but I’ve recently returned thanks to rewatching DSOD back in March. This is my first time participating in Zexal month and I’m not sure how much I’ll actually be able to participate, but I’m happy to be here :)

Zexal Month, Week 1 Day 1

Who are you? What’s your Zexal story? Hello humans! I'm hella late but want to join the party regardless. I'm ararei, aka Rei (Yes that's my legal first name that I choose for myself which may or may not be because of Zexal lol). I'm in my mid-twenties and my first Yu-Gi-Oh was Duel Monsters. Though I wouldn't necessary call myself a yugioh fan until I was in my junior year in high school. I got drawn back to yugioh when I found the abridged series on Youtube, then I watched all the yugioh anime from season 0 all the way to Zexal. I started Zexal around the end of Zexal I. I fell head over heels in love with Zexal by the third episode. I just adore the nice atmosphere of heartland city, and our protagonist Yuuma and Astral. I even started playing the card game itself just because I loved Zexal so much! It's a wholesome show that really lifted my spirits in the mist of my depression and each episode was a reason for me to keep on going just to see what's going to happen next. This show is still has a huge part of my heart because of that. Glad to see so many are still participating in Zexal Month! Plan to finally contribute some fan art to this wonderful community. Always wanted to join the fun since it first started but was too shy to. Here's another decade to love Zexal <3
