Also, Jewish butchers were the first Jewish guild (Jews were not allowed to be a part of the Christian guilds in Europe so had to make their own).

Next site, the city of Zhmerynka (Жмеринка), in Vinnytsia Oblast. It's located in a very historic region of Eastern Europe known as Podolia. It was originally two neighboring villages in the Kingdom of Poland, but over the centuries, they merged into one city. In 1793, the two villages were annexed by the "russian" empire during the Second Partition of Poland. In 1917, after the collapse of the "russian" empire during WWI, the city became part of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Over the next several years, it passed between Ukraine, Poland, and finally, in 1920, it became part of the soviet union. The city also suffered horribly during the soviet caused famine, the Holodomor, in 1932-1933.
