Zian cradled that cup of coffee in his hands like his life depended on it, and, some days, it actually did. Not the cup itself, but the dark liquid kissing its interior and bringing back memories of a time where things used to be more simple. A time where the weight of his choices didn't feel like it would have been better to simply let him drown in that cup of coffee. A simple post-lunch espresso freshly made for him. A hot and quick punch in his guts to get him through the rest of the day.
Lucky for him, Jacob's presence in the living area was enough to bring Zian back to the present and out of the darkness that was beginning to cloud his mind, luring him into deeper waters and making him question his own reasons to stay sober.
He'd been perfectly fine before. One bad night didn't change anything.
Right?
"Have you been writing anything new lately?" Zian asked, trying to tether himself to the present. To actual conversation.
