Zimbabwe import ban has somehow affected the both borders. Speaking at OR Tambo International Airport regarding the new rollout of the biometric capture system, Gigaba stated the installation of this biometric system had not lowered the number of people entering the country.

His department fairly expected more visitors to make their way into SA, but Gigaba did acknowledge that the instability on Zimbabwe side of the Beitbridge border post area had resulted a drop in the number of Zimbabwean visitors.
He stated the number of travellers had almost lessen in half from 15,000 a day, which had cleared in the amount of money collected at the border post area due to Zimbabwe import ban.
Gigaba said the Beitbridge port of new entry oversaw a fairly similar number of travellers as OR Tambo International Airport.
“We cannot blame the Zimbabwean government‚ because it’s a fairly domestic policy issue that they have introduced. They are trying to look more after national interest factor (and) their economy‚” stated here Gigaba due to Zimbabwe import ban.
In an effort to preserve its economy‚ the Zimbabwe government has majorly imposed more restrictions on imports of certain goods from SA.
The ban caused to protests on both sides of the border last Friday due to imports Zimbabwe import ban.
